View Full Version : Language Filter

Can we add "****" to the language filter?

Then there will be no question as to whether or not it is "OK" for one of my friends to post using the word "****".

He can still post it then without getting posts deleted.

I mean, it does seem to be a bit awkward that a bunch of other words that are "off-limits" and filtered, but this one is not, and get's posts deleted when it is included.

Just a request. If no-one else likes the request then ignore it.

P.S. Also that "******" word should probably be filtered although it's not being used that much.

Oh. . .I see it's already been added.

The 'c' word?

I thought it was supposed to be filtered already. If it isn't, it should be.

Also, I would think the word should have been censored rather than the post being deleted. Right?

Faggot needs to be filtered as well IMO.

Maybe.

Mods aren't perfect, they make mistakes or overlook stuff once in a while. We read so many posts that sometimes our thinking hat gets a little tight.

Anyway, there are thousands of posts on a weekly basis, if one gets deleted once in a while, I think thats OK. I mean, esspecially if they are in the lounge and ment to degrade anyway, right?

If it was the C word, it was just brought to my attention that singular (not Cingular) is filtered, but plural isn't.

As to ******/******, that like several other words aren't filtered because there could be legitimate uses, such as a discussion or article posted about a comparison of today and years past in terms of race relations, etc.

We have a few words like that which aren't filtered, but the rules forbid their use in an attacking or derogatory manner.

I will get the plural C added some time tonight.

It was sounding like if a post contained that word, it would be deleted. That's not cool. But if there is more to it than a simple filter violation, it's a whole other animal.

I know they suck but are we really going to filter the word chiefs. Seems a little insecure IMHO

Frau, it was a filteration. It has been fixed since the post was made and deleted.
The "C" word is against the COC. But yeah, it could have been edited or censored. It wasn't. Like I said, we're not perfect. We overlook stuff sometimes too.

Turf or another mod could answer this better than me since they do the actual modding, but I would think that if a word is a minor part of the post, then they would edit out the word. However, if it was a major part, or the entire post was an attack (using a banned word or not), then the post is going to get deleted.

Since NTL's original post contained ****, I am just assuming that he is referring the C word, as it just came to my attention that the plural wasn't filtered. More times than not, the C word, when used, is used in an attack, and that is forbidden, whether with ** or not.

So, if I was to say, "Man, the Broncos are playing like a bunch of C___", then a mod could/should change the C word to *****.

On the other hand, if I was to say, "Tned, you're a dumb ******* C____", then it isn't simply a matter of filtering out the C word that maybe slipped through, because the context, whether with **** or C____ is a personal attack and not allowed, and therefore the person should be warned and post deleted. Personal attacks aren't allowed.

Now, after going through all that, NTL will probably come back and say, I wasn't talking about the C word.

I was talking completely in a general sort of terms, not about any specific post. I think you misunderstand me.

Usually we star out the word. Sometimes we delete the post until discussion on what to do with the violation and what, if any, actions should be taken, then we restore it with the change.

So I deleted the post until the mods finished the discussion on what/if any action would be taken for the violation. The post is restored now with the word starred out.

Although he would make fun of another man's unemployment I don't think he's really a jerk, but he can be pretty harsh sometimes, in a funny kind of way.

I'm also probably in the minority, but in this particular instance I didn't think the use of **** was a personal attack. . .not that he's not used it that way before anyways.

Anyways it's a moot point now. If another word comes up down the road, the thread's already here.
