Half Personnel

John Elway referred to the formations/personnel at the end of the Jets game as Half Personnel or something like that. He said they went to that for the 95 yard drive and that Tebow is comfortable with it. I'm not familiar with this term. Can someone explain exactly what it refers to?

Two ideas. One might be that it is the kneel-down formation to close out a half.

Also, it might be a formation that features the halfback but since most formations have a halfback, I'm not sure how that fits the context.

That's what I figured as well, but had never heard that mentioned. Unless it's a nickname for the 12 personnel group (which could be expressed as 1/2 or half), which would be 1 RB and 2 TE's.

He was referring to what the Broncos used on the 95 yard drive. I should have mentioned that in my first post. I'll update it.

That would be my first guess, but I'm not sure we had 2 TE's in on that whole drive. Certainly, we were just going with one running back in shot-gun.

I asked Patrick Smyth and he said Elway was referring to "a more spread out formation and an empty backfield."
