I think it used to mean the player was voted to the AP / Associated Press sportswriters list.

Is it still that way or what criteria NOW gives a football player the handle "All Pro?"

An 'All Pro' player is voted by a panel of AP Sports analysts as the best at his position regardless of the conference he plays in.

Im fairly sure that's the difference.

I thought that they did the All Pro for each conference?

If they do, they would be seperate. The All Pro Team by AP does not differentiate AFC/NFC. It's the whole NFL.
