We're having a good time right now, with Tned having created a board that
promises much more than any other we've seen . . . we hope. It is a fan-based,
fan-run board that will depend on the desires and happiness of its members.
We must understand that the honeymoon will soon be over, and the real world
will set in. We will see disagreements and even quarrels, and other sources of
dissatisfaction here. It may be a cliché that you can't please everyone, but
that saying has stuck around for the centuries because it is true. You won't
like some things, and I won't, either. But we will have to live with a few
inconveniences and dislikes because . . . well, others to like them.
What I see coming into the board at this moment are mature, well established
board members. We are the core, the charter members. We need to help
where we can, setting examples and providing encouragement and correction
where appropriate because all future members will not be so mature and
established.
So let's join in together, as FRIENDS, and stay that way, and make this
board a success. Remember, more message boards fail than succeed, so we
need to work as one to make sure we fall into the latter category.
I say this with love . . . seriously.

i just wanna say way to go tned. I learned my lesson from BM The P&R thread is out of the question for me. It gave me a bad taste in my mouth for some posters that i really liked outside of it. that and the micheal vick threads ggrrr.
For the most part i dont hold grudges and love to talk football.... looks like i came to the right place.

Yea, I was always only an occaissional P&R poster. Some subjects I simply refused to even take part in. I would see the subject and avoid it. I think it was up for a couple months before I posted for the first time. It is a dangerous subject area, but some really like it. I think the people that post there have to do so knowing things will get heated and agree to debate to their hearts content, but not hold grudges or harbor ill feelings based on the debates.

I look forward to a new start on the P&R threads, too. Funny thing.... when P&R returned elsewhere, I was happy to see them back, posted in them once or twice, then decided I'd rather sit it out than to enter into the hatred and grudges that were so prevalent.

Yes, but we should not mistake a heated debate as "hatred."
For instance, you would have thought Mtnman and I didn't like each other
much, from some of the debates we had. Yet he has become one of my best
friends, on and off the board. NUB and I got into some donnybrooks, too, yet
it was obvious at other times we were board friends.
I guess that is the biggest challenge to moderating: whether it is the "game"
they are playing, or whether it is really getting serious. But you probably did it
right: If the other party appears to be getting a little too serious, it is time to
walk away.

Yep, both in getting an active membership, AND in all of us setting the right tone in terms of how people act.

That's stated perfectly tops! I don't know how many times I left a P&R discussion with raised blood pressure, but the minute I crossed over into another forum, with that same poster - I felt like his buddy. You HAVE to separate the two from disagreeing on one, two or five issues. It's worth maintaining the friendship that brought you together in the first place. It's not personal in P&R, it's P&R, and everyone has strong feelings about P&R if they have a pulse (hopefully). :D

Great post top. I would'nt had expected anything less from you. You have always (in my short time posting with you) come across to me as someone who's easy to get along with and open minded to others opinions. While at the same time, having a strong beleif in your own and standing on it.
That can easily be said about alot of people here on this site.
I feel that i'm very fortunate in the P&R discussion area, because i don't do politics!:D
As far as religion.......i'm blessed.

I know a lot of people here have a severe dislike for me (for whatever reasons) but I'm here to help the community grow, help Tnedator with the design and to post whatever knowledge I can bring to the table. Where a lot of you might never be "friends" with me, here's to extending a branch of civility towards one another and on this new site, wiping the slate clean.

Nice post, Dream. I think all of us have to be willing to let others start with a clean slate, and be willing to clean off our own, dump our old baggage.
We have all at times gone too far, and said things that in reality we shouldn't have. I am guilty. I made a comment on BM just this past weekend that I am not proud of.
I know some of you have asked about the COC, what is acceptable, and stuff like that. While we will have something 'official' on that soon, here are my personal thoughts.
While I heard many times on BM from various people, something like, "it's just the Internet, people shouldn't take it serious" or "being civil isn't necessary, because this is the Internet" or similar statements, I hope that 'approach' doesn't take hold here.
IMO, if each of us took the approach that we wouldn't type something that we wouldn't be willing to say to someone's face, without this shield of anonymity, then I think that would go a long way to avoid some of the bad blood that occurred on BM.

I think the basic gist of any CoC is treat each other with respect. Are there going be heated discussions on this board? I would image so, but we can still work on not lobbing personal attack grenades at each other.

Understood, but there is a line I wasn't comfortable crossing. In those situations, it's best to go with intuition and avoid the fight.
Example TKO's debate in those cases.

Speak for yourself, Brother Larry. I LOATHE Dream.
Just pulling your chain, of course, Dream. Respect doesn't always mean agreement. Clean slate for one and all. Besides, I only carry grudges against red sox fans. ;)
BTW, Dream: Jerry had his first scrimmage last night. He's playing OG and DT and the season starts a week from Saturday. He told me he wants to switch to baseball next season and I assured him it's his call. He can play any sport... or no sport. I just want him to have fun and learn sportsmanship and the importance of teamwork. He's a winner regardless of the score.

It is really hard to not think differently about a certain poster after you duke it out in the P&R...That is one thing that I hate about the P&R.

That's awesome, congratulations to you and Jerry. I always had that predicament with sports too. I quit both at pretty much the same time, (I played baseball the summer after I quit football) but I've kept playing pick-up baseball here at college and as you know have been in Men's League playing softball for the past two years.
Whenever I can, I try to play football and we have two annual games against our rival Hall and that's usually when I let the football blood in me run through and through. A lot of people discount me for my size when I line up at all different positions, but it's nice knowing I can still go out there and play, even though it's not the most organized.
I don't recall how old Jerry is, but it's extremely difficult to juggle multiple sports. I'd encourage him to do what he does best, because in time for me I just found it all too difficult to do. I think both sports got in the way of each other, but a lot of my struggles were with personal battles in my life I'm glad are finally over.
Baseball will always be my first love, my football to me is religion really.
Let us know how Jerry does throughout the year. I remember my first real game in sixth grade. I was playing cornerback and a friend of mine was talking trash at wide receiver, so on the first play I took him by the facemask and threw him to the ground. LOL. Wasn't very mature, but looking back I cannot help but laugh.
Here's to Jerry being a better sport than I was. I was taught since my first little league year that winning was all that mattered, and if we lost we'd be losers, and nobody wants to know or be a loser. So I've still taken losing very personally up until this day. Kind of odd how I'm mentioning this now, because we were talking about Paiget's scheme behavior in my Educational Psychology class the other day and we had to share examples and this was it.
It's too bad I've never tried accommodating to try and fix my views on losing.
Anyways, I have to get ready for class!
Take care!

And how timely. Another beloved member and I were discussing this very issue today. Although our membership is relatively few in numbers, I'm happy to observe that we have *quality*!

Oh, and speaking of "build it," I have to get back to the Rockies game, where the score is now 4-1...

I don't know how you can say that Lynch isn't a great safety. He's a great guy and a great safety. Did you watch any of Lynch before he came to Denver? Or even any of Lynch in his first 3 years in Denver? The guy was an amazing player and leader. He deserves to be in the hall. He doesn't deserve to be in before Atwater, but he does deserve to be in.
