The Denver Broncos used a powerful running game to defeat the Oakland Raiders Sunday. The Broncos racked up 299 yards on the ground, with 163 of them coming from running back Willis McGahee. Quarterback Tim Tebow also had a 100-yard day, running for 118 yards, as Tebow and McGahee became the just the fifth quarterback-running back duo in NFL history to each run for 100 yards in the same game.

But while McGahee and Tebow accumulated the stats, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said that the real praise goes to the offensive line. On ‘Elway Live‘ Tuesday, Elway told Broncos TV’s Chris Hall that all the success on offense, including with the running game, starts with the big boys up front.

What we saw on Sunday is what you get when you fit a round peg into a round hole instead of trying to cram a square peg into a round hole. Tebow was a top 5 all-time college football player the reason was that he was able to run the football enough to create single coverage for his weapons. Being able to run the ball out of the spread should open up the passing game a lot more, just like it does in college football. It doesn't matter if defenses scheme against it because no matter how you spin, we will have receivers in single coverage on every play. Eddie Royal's receiving touchdown as a prime example of the threat that defensive players have to account for, he was practically uncovered. Even if Tebow has around a 50% completion percentage, we're still going to see plenty of big plays in the passing game like we did on Sunday. And if Tebow can pass like he did on his first series of the 3rd quarter, we will have a chance against any team.
