from article:

Tebow said he understands that some people might be using Tebowing to mock him or religion in general. He is more excited, though, about those who are taking it seriously.

"It's not my job to see peoples' reasons behind it, but I know (of a kid) with cancer that tweeted me, 'Tebowing while I'm chemoing' — how cool is that?" Tebow said. "That's worth it right now. If that gives him any encouragement or puts a smile on his face, or gives him encouragement to pray, that's completely awesome."

I agree wholeheartedly. First and foremost, Denver already has a number of fine celebration traditions, such as the Mile High Salute, that all fans can share and support. There's no need to begin a new one at the risk of alienating some fans who feel unable (or unwelcome) to share in it; team traditions should be inclusive of all fans.

The main thing that bothers me here is that this seems less like praying publicly despite people watching and more like praying BECAUSE people are watching. I read something about that once; it went like this:

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward."
I might feel differently if not for the precedent of the BCS Championship commercial, but that context changes things. One can make strong arguments against abortion, but "you could have a kid as awesome as ME!" is not among them. That's not gratitude: It's bragging with an agenda. I've also read that pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit cometh before a fall; maybe if Tebow had spent a little more time practicing and less making commercials that wouldn't have been the last game of his college career. I'm sorry, dude, but if you're gonna be down there grandstanding anyway, why don't YOU join US in praying you get some accuracy?

The definition: #Tebowing - to get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different. Love it!

Some are praying. That's awesome!

Some are not praying. Which means they're pretending to pray. Which means that it's disrespectful to religion. If you're not religious, you wouldn't understand.

I have no problem with people honoring Tim Tebow. That's awesome that we have a QB that's such a great person. I have a problem with the whole Tebowing thing because some, not all, people are pretending to pray. And they're unaware of that.

Regardless, whatever I say isn't going to affect the Tebowing thing. It's blown up so big.

This remains my biggest objection: Last I checked, prayer was not about honoring Tim Tebow or any other human being. Anyone else notice that Tebow inviting people to share his awesomeness by sharing his religious tends to be followed by him and his team being embarrassed in front of God and everybody? Some things aren't about you, Tim, and prayer should definitely be one of them.

The picture started a public Twitter conversation between the two star athletes, which included Tebow inviting Howard to come give football a shot (along with LeBron) should the NBA lockout last much longer.

“BTW @DwightHoward if the lockout continues, you & @KingJames need to come get fitted for your Broncos uni’s!,” Tebow wrote.

He is taking it pretty well. He said he got a message from a kid who has cancer who said he was inspired by the whole Tebowing thing. Tebow said that even if it just gave that one kid a little hope it's all worth it.

Much as it pains me to say it, I think the ship sailed on crushing his humility some time before he was starring in nationally aired commercials arguing abortion is wrong because it risks depriving oneself and the world of the next Tim Tebow. He's our QB, I hope he does well and he looked good last Sunday; that doesn't change the fact that, when he's posing in prayer for the cameras, I find myself wondering exactly whom he's glorifying. Christianity already has a poster child, and it's not Tim Tebow. He deliberately brought this attention on himself (which is the biggest part of the problem,) so I can't feel too badly that some of it is less flattering than he hoped. Ironically, my greatest concern is that kind of egotism reflecting badly on Christianity, not the Broncos (though that's a concern as well.)
