The Broncos continue to work through what will be one of the biggest items on their offensive to-do list with Tim Tebow as their starting quarterback. That would be how to protect Tebow while allowing him to play in the offense he is most comfortable in right now.

The best protection for a quarterback is always a productive run game. It doesn't have to be one of the NFL's elite ground-pounders, just a productive runner able to turn a second-and-4 or third-and-3 into a first down with some regularity.

A productive run game opens up the option of play-action, which makes defenses intent on throwing quarterbacks to the ground worry about something else.

The challenge is, it can be difficult for an offense to do all of those run-game things when it has the quarterback in the shotgun. In the shotgun, defenders look right at the quarterback and can tell if he did, or didn't, give the ball to the running back, so play-action isn't nearly as effective.

Often, teams in the shotgun are playing lighter formations with more wide receivers. It's why the best offenses that work the majority of the time out of the shotgun have quarterbacks who make lightning-quick decisions with the ball to go with a heavy dose of tight ends and running backs in the pass pattern.

one thing I have seen Tebow do from the shotgun(in college) is when he catches the snap he fakes a draw by taking half a step towards the line. I have seen it freeze the defense and spring recievers as everyone was waiting to see if he would run. Having said that it is definately easier to run with the qb under center. Several of the UF running backs have stated publicly how much easier it is to run with the forward momentum they get with the qb under center, and Tebow would be wise to adjust to under center sooner rather than later(I know you are tired of hearing from Gators so I hope this wasn't too bad)
