View Full Version : Tebow gets no promises beyond this week

To the extent that anyone thinks Tim Tebow definitely will be the quarterback of the Broncos for the rest of the season or, at a minimum, until further notice, think again. Ed Werder of ESPN reports that no promises of any kind have been made to Tebow beyond this week.

It sounds like a ploy to motivate Tebow, who seems to thrive when he perceives that hes being doubted. The fans have been clamoring for Tebow for weeks, and there would be a full-blown revolt if he gets benched after only one start.

Only if Quinn is next in line. It would make absolutely no sense whatsoever, from an organizational, or business standpoint, to go back to Kyle Orton like the announcer is insinuating.

That would be comparable to the organization saying, "we know we don't have our QB on he roster, but at least with Kyle Orton we can finish with 3 wins instead of 1 or 2."

Whoopty-fn-do.

Maybe Fox just had enough of the fans crying and that's why he finally caved in an put in Tebow.

If we're going to lose, then might as well lose with some excitement.

But yeah, if Tebow continues to play like this he will be gone quicker than a fat kid eating a twinkie.

The playcalling in the first 3 quarters did Tebow no favors. That being said, he needs to execute all 4 quarters, not just the fourth.

And if Timmy gets us sniffing 500 this year, then I think our priority needs to be someone better to protect his blind side.

What he had 161yds and 2 TD's and lead them to a win even though Fox/McCoy feed him a steady diet of BS plays until the final 2 minutes of the game which is also BS.

Coaching and play calling is why this O looked so bad through most of the game.

I still want Tebow over Orton and I want Fox and McCoy fired. Fox because he wanted to keep McCoy so fire him for being stupid and for starting Orton and for being a loser.

check the timestamp of the post. and thats right, he had 24 yards through 3plus quarters. tebow looked like dogshit for 55 minutes, then turned to superman....oh and that bronco defense might have had something 2 do with the win too

Tebow sucked, he throws like he's constipated and on the whole with barely any spiral, velocity or accuracy!

What I saw today did not make me a 'believer' it made me a firm doubter - because a high school quarterback could have been more successful with how open the wide receivers were at times, even with the horrendous play calling...this was downright low-class even for collegiate ball, and I am less happy about this win then the one with Orton under center. "Ooooh, Tebow's exciting", not in this pass happy league - he's downright pitiful!

If EFX has any intelligence, then our first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft should be Landry Jones!

Am I glad we won? Usually I would be...but come on Timmy, this was the sorriest football I've ever watched, ever. I've seen some bad football, hell...I've been forced to watch Orton for far too long - but damn!

And I would not give out cards that say congrats, more like "Happy Holidays, you're F'd" hahaha...(((Kidding))). I'm not trying to be depressing, but this was shit, I don't care about the win, but Tebow is bad when he can't even surpass 300 yards passing on Miami's sorry ass passing defense. Cam Newton is Godlike compared to Tebow. As to the rest, Tebow has had last season and part of this season to improve, he looks to have back tracked in full throttle! OMG, we suck...we sucked with Orton, but if this is what Tebow brings then we'll be that shitty team that wins enough simply to not be called losers but far from competitive.

That's a matter of opinion and you well know it. I've watched him, he's not as passionate as Foles, Griffith or Luck, but he has a bigger arm then all of them, he's got pinpoint accuracy when he's on and is considered the most natural passer of those who could be in the draft, he does have a drive to succeed though he doesn't show it openly. He's more of a Jay Cutler clone to be honest, and nothing like Orton IMHO. If we only draft because of openness of emotion...then Bradford would not have been a first round pick, and Cutler would not have been drafted in the first round either.

That's what people said about Jay Cutler as well, that he was all hype, and I said many of the same things about Cutler, and I stand by my assessment of Jones, the kid has all the tangibles to be a great pro quarterback. But so does Matt Barkley, and many people believe he's nothing but hype...it's actually funny, but unless someone is the top ranked in the first round or not someone in the latter rounds they're all hype...just the hypocrisy I suppose.

Right on! Yeah, I was listening to ESPN radio last week and they were talking the team who drafts Luck needs to have their shit together as far as coaching and the FO. Why would Luck want to go to a team that is a mess from top to bottom. They made good points in the conversation.

If only Tebow can play a whole game like he has been playing in the 4th quarter. He has shown he can play QB, but has not been able to do it for the whole game, just the 4th quarter. He had a 111 rating in the 4th quarter to finish with a 91 rating for entire game. He threw twice as many passes in the 4th quarter as he did in the first 3 quarters combined with 60% completion in the 4th.

That is the QB i want, the one we had in the 4th quarter. I dont want the 1-3 quarter QB. We are lucky they sucked and did not run away with the game. It would not have been such a close game given Prater missed 2 FGs also.

Agreed, but if he only throws it 4 times a half he's not exactly gonna get into rhythm. And I remember plenty of our other QBs (namely John) screwing up screen plays by throwing the ball too hard, with not enough loft, or blasting a pass off the receiver's hands when some touch would have gotten the completion.

Rhythm means something, and telling him not to screw up with his 4 pass attempts a half is a good way to make sure he never learns anything about being a pro QB. If we need to know if he can throw in order to solidify the QB position prior to the draft, then for God's sake make the kid throw.

Let him move, and give him running options especially in the red zone, but he'd better air it out some too. I'll feel better about kicking him to the curb if we throw it consistently.

Completions/attempts:

Tim in the first half: 3-of-5

Tim in the 3rd quarter: 0-of-3

Tim in the 4th quarter: starts 1-of-6, then goes 9-of-13 with 2 TDs.

We threw it 19 times in the 4th since we were down 2 scores, and we somehow won the game. I don't think Tim should be throwing it 40 times a game, but 8 pass attempts in the first 3 quarters combined is a joke.

No more of that. We all deserve better.

That's the key to it all for me. I dont want to go into the draft not knowing what we already have on our shelf and I would hope EFX would feel the same way.

20-25 throws a game (maybe more if necessary) should give us a pretty good idea by the end of the season if we have something to work with here.

I streamed part of the game. But i was not able to see if anyone was open down field. I know Tebow was sacked 7 times and ran for his life a lot. OL was not doing so well during the parts of the game i saw. Like the sack by Bell, (after Tebows 20 yard scramble) he was untouched up the middle right between Kuper and Walton.

Absolutely. I also think that Tebow looks like he is trying too hard and thinking too much out there. Don't know if the coaches are in his head or if it is of his devising, but it is detrimental to his play either way. Only time he looked comfortable and natural was on the two drives. If the coaches figure a way to get that kind of comfort a lot more often then Denver will be able to upset a few teams this year and maybe Denver has a QBOTF.

I agree the OL should have picked that up but the QB needs to read that before the play. It was an obvious blitz and should have been seen pre snap.

Actually that blitz was not very obvious....Bell blitzed from 8 yards deep from the normal safety position, which is not very common of a blitz.

Still, the Oline and Tebow both should have seen Bell coming because he had 8 yards to cover before he got to the line of scrimmage. Maybe it was a combination of Tebow expecting the Oline to see it and the Oline expecting Tebow to have gotten rid of the ball by then.

QB with more than 26 yards through 3 quaters would be nice. Playcalling or not, you got to make your opportunities count and Tebow didn't. His play was as bad as his critics are saying.

I get what you're saying, but Denver's defense won't keep too many teams under wraps like they did against Miami.

Tebow has to play better. Anyone who is freaking out about it at this point is dumb though. 4 starts and little time to practice with the first team will make players look not so great. If he looks like this at the end of the year....

Not quite. It was obvious that Tebow was trying very hard to stay back and throw...to the detriment of his overall play IMO.

The o-line had a very bad game and he missed reads. But the fins were in his face early and often so he had to scramble or go into the fetal ala bum.

People keep repeating that. Guess what, we get our chance to play a "good" team next week with Detroit. We'll just have to see. How often do teams lose to teams they are better than? All the damned time. How often do bad teams step up and beat good teams? All the damned time. There's a reason the games are played and not just drawn randomly out of a hat...

I'd bet Oklahoma didn't think Texas Tech was"anything to brag about" either. Just maybe we take a good team by surprise this week. That's why predictions suck, especially in a league like the NFL where there is so much parity.

Cowher's absolutely right, not understanding blitz packages hurt us in the passing game severely, and the run game as well at times. When we play the Jets Ryan's D is gonna make Tim look baaaad at this rate.

But Tebow's got 10 more games to study film, take first team reps, get more comfortable and get better (in theory...).

And the O line will get to adjust to having a mobile QB behind them as well as the expectation of a ton of men in the box and extra blitzes. They haven't had to face the sorts of defenses that having Tebow at the helm will bring either. It's a learning process for everyone.

Maybe those of you who are right that the play calling could have been better, but I thought play calling was ok. We actually ran the ball pretty well.

Bronco running game in Miami was pretty good all right, but why is that, and who is best at it?

8.1 ypc Tebow 8 for 65 yds, Long 21 yds.
4.2 ypc McGahee 18 for 76 yds, Long 12 yds.
4.0 ypc Moreno 7 for 28 yds, Long 13 yds.
2.3 ypc Ball 6 for 14 yds, Long 5 yds

Tebow continues to be the Broncos 'Most Effective' player at both running and passing.

2011 Season Rushing:

6.8 ypc Tebow 15 for 102 yds, Long 21 yds, 1 TD
4.5 ypc McGahee 103 for 460 yds, Long 28 yds, 1 TD

3.4 ypc Orton 5 for 17 yds, Long 13 yds, 0 TD

Tebow Records already broken in just 4 starts:

40 Yard TD Run vs Raiders - Broncos Record for a QB

17 point comeback vs Texans - Broncos Record

15 point comeback with less than 3 minutes remaining - NFL Record

In just four starts the guy is already setting records...And this is a guy who hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential and will only get better.

If he is as bad as the detractors say, then how the hell is he doing things that no one has ever managed to do?

If you can't see that this kid has something special going for him then you are just blind.

4 games under his belt and people are expecting a polished vet. Give him time to develop and I think we are going to have a great one.

2-2 record playing on a team that (to put it nicely) is not very good...Wish people would be a little more objective when judging TT before he has even started a handful of games.

Yes, he needs to learn to play more of a conventional game and he needs to improve his pocket passing, but to do that he needs to trust his eyes and his arm and let it fly. He can throw the ball on target as witnessed by the last 5 minutes, he just needs to trust he can do it for the entire game.

I think he just needs more time. Some people learn best through trial and error. And although being quarterback for a professional football team isn't the best place to throw in a trial and error guy. I think it would be best to just let him find his way through this learning technique. From what I understand, Tebow isn't the brightest crayon in the box. So of course he's going to be slower at reading coverages and picking up the blitzes. But when it does all come together for him, and he gets by this mental block that's holding him back from unleashing the superman cape. Watch out..

~G

I agree with you...but - lets be fair to McCoy (I can't believe I typed that). A lot more passes were called than the 8 recorded in the first 3 Quarters. Some were sacks, and a number ended up recorded as running plays by Tebow. The fault for that is both bad line play and Tebow's indecision and/or inability to locate receivers. Those are what need to improve.

Me thinks he gets another week.

Unless he plays absolutely HORRIBLY like he did for 3 1/2 quarters and does this for several games in a row (at least 2 horrible performances) he's going to continue to start.

They want to use the next 10 games to evaluate Tebow and see if he can learn anything about throwing from the pocket and maybe hitting wide open WRs.

They can't bring back Orton after benching him. And they don't want to start Quinn. Orton won't play again this year unless Tebow gets hurt. And Quinn won't play at all if Fox gets his way.

So, Tebow it is unless he's so horrible that they just have to take him out as a mercy killing, like pulling your goalie after he's surrendered 6 goals in the first 2 periods. :coffee:

Can we call this the Boller rule?

God, I hope not! It took about 4 years for the Ravens to get rid of Kyle Boller! The Broncos better not repeat that mistake!

the faiders just gave up potentially two first round picks to avoid playing boller. . . .

If I was the Raiders' coach I'd hate to think how many body parts I might be willing to surrender to avoid starting Kyle Boller!
