The Broncos had their three best defensive players on the field together this morning in the first day of preparations for Sunday's game at defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay.

"You feel a little more comfortable in the fight when you have all your troops with you," Broncos coach John Fox said after practice. "They were a welcome addition, for sure."

Cornerback Champ Bailey, defensive end Elvis Dumervil, linebacker D.J. Williams along with defensive tackle Marcus Thomas were on the field for the start of practice.

I guess the report that Dumervil's pec wasn't healed and he was out indefinitely was wrong...

One of the articles I read today said that the Broncos need to throw against GB, as that is their weakness on defense.

Nice to see the defense back at full strength. Too bad the offense (Orton) will suck.

GB only avg's 55yds on the ground. It'll definitely be up to the Dline to get pressure in his face.

Denver needs to grind out yards, and run the clock if they hope to have a chance. Get the lead, then run the ball.

Hopefully the Oline can do their part.

If we can get Champ, Doom, and DJ all back this week and they can play at the 80% or better level, we might have a chance of at least making a game of it. Our offense is so bad right now that the defense must force turnovers and get them good FP so we can at least kick some FGs. Green Bay is playing well right now, but they aren't indestructible. If we can punish Aaron Rodgers and get hits on him early, we can keep the score reasonable.

Honestly, I think our defense matches up well with a pass first team like GB (provided we have all our starters) but the guy I worry about is Jermichael Finley. We haven't had anyone who can cover a TE in years. I can see us holding Jenkins and Driver under 100 yds but Finley just going off like Gates usually does vs us.

It's pretty clear that Doom & especially Champ are not nearly 100% but they are trying to gut it out.

Champ did this a few seasons ago remember? Hamstring injury not fully healed? He tried to come back several times but was hindered the entire season and missed a bunch of games. Not really effective when he did play.

Same thing this year. :coffee:

Kinda funny really.....

All these years with offensive minded HC's, and everybody screaming for a defense to go with the offense.

Then screaming for a defensive minded HC......

...and here we are.

We stand little chance of winning the next two weeks. They should wait until after the bye and then give it a go.

I think a lot of them were healing up and trying not to rush back last week; Doom and DJ, IIRC, practiced and were game time decisions. It can't be easy for them sitting on the sidelines watching when the team is having so much trouble so many places (on the other hand, neither Champ, Doom nor DJ plays offense.) This is a pretty daunting game and Fox may have to strap them down and sedate them to keep them off the field, though Champ's probably not going to push his hammy unless he's dead certain it's ready.

Good to see nearly everyone is back and healthy; that alone is a bright spot in a season that's been very short on them so far. Here's hoping all our guys stay healthy and have a good game Sunday, though it doesn't look to be pretty.
