By posting in this thread, you promise to listen to at least 25% of any song posted here by the way of a Youtube link. Feel free to leave honest comments about the song. Just be respectful of what you are posting here. I expect some good judgement as to what will be posted on here.

I am hoping that this will broaden peoples musical tastes. If there is a part of the song that you feel really needs to be heard, leave a time stamp so that if someone only listens to the first minute, and decides they hate it, they can at least experience what it is you really like about a song.

I love life insurance as a product. . .it is really cool what you can do with it if you have some imagination. One of the most under-rated financial planning tools out there.

That being said, selling it sucks. People act like you've got bubonic plague the moment you say life insurance. Heck, you probably killed this thread just mentioning it. :D

The good side is, that if you tire of speaking with someone, just a quick question about their life insurance program and :poof: they disappear.

Ok, mine is actually going to consist of two vids but the main contributor is Devin Townsend considering he has two different sides to his musical style. The first is his solo stuff which has more of a blues/classic rock vibe. The second is/was his thrash band Strapping Young Lad. There's not much to the first video as it is not a legit vid but its all about the song anyway. As for the other video, those who love the Evil Dead movies will get a kick out of it.

I guess I'll post something to get started. Not everyone will like it, but I enjoy the guitar and think it's a fun song, and I enjoy Bloc Party's first two albums.

So here is 'Banquet' by Bloc Party. You can get the feel of the song in 60-90 seconds, so if you don't like, you can stop listening rather quick.

It is, you will find some edgeir tunes but not like the SYL stuff. Devin's solo stuff i like to compare to Pink Floyd in some ways because like Nobody's Here he does a lot of crazy stuff vocally and with the guitar that gives his stuff atmosphere. If you would like to check out his stuff start with the albums 'Terria, Synchestra, and his Project called Ocean Machine'.

I just got on the Lupe wagon, so 'Food & Liquor' is the only album I have. 'Instrumental' is definatly the hook song for me. Got me into him and the rest is growing on me. Some of his other stuff leans more to rap. Here is another.

I want to thank Thnikka for the thread, this is awesome, I already have 7 more artists typed down in my 'songs' document I keep, and I'll check them out. I am glad we can all post and share music.

I'll leave with some Everlast. Everyone knows 'What it's Like' and that is a fantastic song. Here is 'Lonely Road'. Skip ahead to the 55 second mark, as this is the only youtube vid I could find with the song, and it has some flute up to that point. As should be obvious, this is not an official video.

Symphonic progressive/Operatic Metal. Pretty interesting band as they have the band themselves and then have a actual choir singing behind them.

I enjoyed this one. I am finding with all this metal, I am listening to the drums most of the time. The more complex the drums the better. Not a fan of the organ though.

This one not so much. I'm not a fan of opera, so it was a combination of the opera style singers in the back, and the bad bit rate of the song. I would give it another try with a better quality version.

You can thank Dread too, since without his overrated band thread, I wouldn't have been inspired to start this one.

And I loves me some Everlast.

Brian Posehn is awesome he cracks me up.

Probably one of the best videos ive ever seen made and the song is great to boot. For some reason when i watch this Peter Pan comes to mind. They are labeled Post-Rock ( i have no idea how that term came about ) and sing in Icelandic. Never the less, a very talented band. I watched a concert/documentary of theirs not too long ago which was excellent.

Sigur Ros is very talented. It doesn't bother me too bad that they sing in Icelandic. I saw that documentary as well. If they sang in English they would probably get much bigger, but I don't think that's their thing.

That was actually a really refreshing song. Love the effects, but I really loved the layering techniques to start the song. Nice mid-tempo beat and an addicting one at that. Something about it really just revitalizes, IDK what it was.

Here's another indie-ish band, real heavily-blues inspired band. You can almost feel the Zeppelin influence, it's so tangible.

You can definitely hear the Zep influence in there. Its so close its scary which in a way can be a bad thing. Hopefully the rest of the material brings their own uniqueness to the sound. But there is a lot of possibilities there musically that they can expand on.

you should see the youtube video where pixies met up with Sigur Ros.
He seemed so totally awestruck, and the pixies members just seem so plain ordinary people.

If you like norwegian bands, and I think you told me that, you should check out motorpsycho. A very underrated band but they kept their cult status unlike turbonegro. they resemble a bit sonic youth though.
Madrugada is another band that creates dark, melancholic music not unlike Tindersticks.

Also since you like King Crimson you should check out the old Genesis with Peter Gabriel. My username is from a Genesis song off the album Nursery crime.
Other unknown progressive bands that are really great include Samla mammas manna(from sweden), Univers Zero and a really great german band called Guru Guru. Guru gurus "Hinten" is brilliant! True Krautrock like Faust, Neu, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk.
Then you have one of my favorite bands; Einsturzende Neubauten who give out two brilliant albums called "tabula rasa" and "ende neu".

We had a thread with song suggestions and Anubis had a bunch of stuff that made me get a bit interested in music again.

Unwelcome Spirits Haunt 'The Bedlam in Goliath'
By Tom Moon

All Things Considered, January 29, 2008 - As origin stories go, this one's a doozy. While on tour, The Mars Volta bought a ouija board at at Jerusalem curio shop. The band used the board as a game, part of its after-show wind-down ritual. Then, according to guitarist and songwriter Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, things got strange.

Through the board, the same spirits started visiting night after night. Their communications partially inspired the lyrics — and even the sounds — The Mars Volta was developing for its new album.

When the band went to the studio to record, chaos ensued. Rodriguez-Lopez says the messages coming through the ouija board got scary. The studio flooded. There were a series of equipment malfunctions. Fearing that the spirits were behind the problems, Rodriguez-Lopez says he broke and buried the board so the group could finish the album. It sounds preposterous, but spend some time with The Bedlam in Goliath and the paranormal visitations begin to seem almost plausible.

At times, it seems The Mars Volta is getting assistance from some of music heaven's luminaries. On the eight-minute headspinner "Metatron," there are collisions of instruments Charles Ives would love, and hiccuping odd-meter hijinks straight out of the Frank Zappa songbook. In a heartbeat, The Mars Volta can go from super-fast rock into a prayer-meeting gospel groove that could have originated in Charles Mingus' workshop.

When Rodriguez-Lopez hears the album now, he says it takes him back to the 37 straight days he spent in the studio, and to the unwelcome spirits that were flying around while his band was trying to work. That's audible — The Bedlam in Goliath is thrilling and a little bit terrifying at the same time. It's like some kind of sinister amusement-park ride. You get in and discover that Satan is at the controls, and he's smiling, and he has no intention of slowing down until everyone's screaming at the top of their lungs.

Thought that was interesting, and kind of explains these guys. They're from El Paso Texas, some vocals are in Spanish, most are in English though.

I still can't figure out how to embed these videos.

No. Over produced, look at my bling rap. That is what gives hip-hop a bad name. Its nothing but boasting. There is nothing in those lyrics but bleached flour, high fructose corn syrup, and granulated sugar. There is no nutrition. I can at least appreciate the artistry of what MB posted two posts up, but what you just linked me was crap.
