View Full Version : What's for dinner tonight?
Went to the new whole foods store that opened in town this morning. It's stuffed grape leaves tonight. Never made it before. Always wanted to.

Stuffed grape leaves Buffy.

I don't know what a grape leaf is... Much less what a person would stuff them with.

They have a lot of leaves so I'm wondering why a jar of them is so expensive.

Never tried their cole slaw. But their mashed taters are pretty damn tasty. And you get two big scoops. I'm picky as hell when it comes to cole slaw. My mom make's great slaw, it's mayonnaise based. Not a fan of vinegar based slaw at all. I'll have to try it next time. But i could eat a bucket full of Captain D's slaw. That's about the only fast food/restaurant slaw i like.

No that was what it was supposed to be that night but when my wife went to the market she said the vegetables were shit so she punted and we had the pork chops with spinach and chick peas
Giving a new recipe a shot. Sesame steak with veggies over rice, all cooked in the slow cooker today. I spent a half an hour last night cutting up veggies and steak, about 5 minute prep time this morning. Loving this crock pot cooking. We were eating like shit due to time constraints with my daughters volleyball and basketball practices, work and all that jazz. This crock pot is literally saving my life. Yesterday I threw chicken breasts with fajita seasoning, green chiles and jalapenos in the large crock pot, green chile with pork in the small crock pot and it was effing delicious.

I've been making authentic ceasar salads about once a week lately to go with the venison we harvested this winter. YUM!!!!
Let me know if any of you would like the authentic ceasar salad dressing. I learned how to make it about 12 years ago when I was a waiter at a fine dining restaurant that had table side service. We made ceasar salad and wilted spinach salads table side. We also got to flame steaks and Bananas fosters at the tables. It was a pretty cool job. I just couldn't keep it because I was about to get married and couldn't support a family on it. I tried to keep the job one or two nights a week, but I got burned out.

Alright here's the drill: For breakfast during the week I usually have 1 hard boiled egg and an orange. For lunch it's a salad with home made dressing. Dinner usually consists of a meat. Last night it was spiral ham with mashed sweet potatoes and broccoli. Dinners during the week are usually quite healthy. On weekends all bets are off especially if it's football season.

As I've gotten older I've come to realize the direct correlation between food and mood. I usually try to eat healthy for breakfast and then it digresses from there.

Interesting you mention that. Did you know ham is considered an "angry" food due to all the nitrates and preservatives that's added.

but there is. Like you, i start good and digress. I get hungry and actually jsut came back from the vending machine. But mornings are great, it's tough to stick to a good diet consistently really. Takes alot of planning, coordination, and time. I keep trying though

Try this recipe (the one with the pepperoncini, we make it in the crock), it's awesome. You can substitute one packet of good seasons italian dressing instead of the italian seasoning to make life easier

Every time we have it I'm like damn that is so good. All we do it throw the chuck in the crock, put in a packet of good seasons italian, a can of beef broth and a jar of pepperoncini with liquid (we cut the stems off of the peppers). Do it in the morning and let it cook all day. Then toast the bread with the cheese and voila!

Leave it like that and when you get to the shredding of the beef stage taste it and add more then if it needs it.
