NFL players say they don't play for the money. Brian Dawkins just proved it. Check that. The Broncos' passion-playing safety has been proving it every Sunday for 15 seasons in the league — and has his "Wolverine" alter ego to prove it.

But Dawkins showed it again last week by accepting a substantial pay cut so he could play a 16th season.

Scheduled to make $6 million this season with the Broncos, Dawkins instead will play for $2 million — $1.6 million in salary with a $400,000 signing bonus, according to contracts turned into the league Tuesday.

I think it was this, or get cut. I'm glad he signed for another season at a lower salary so that he can be around to mentor the new kids.

He is getting paid what the deal should have been in the first place. Good for him to want to correct last years season though. I hope he proves to be a player / coach for the new rookies.

Nothin' but LOVE for BDawk...

he is gonna help the rooks...

I am quite pleased he is still here....
I think he has a lot to give this team in this year in this rebuilding mode.

About his money...
it makes sense that he stay put and earn another 2 million..
as his final hurrah as a player....

no telling what might have happened if he ventured into free agency at this point.

Go Broncos.. Go BDawk!

Hopefully he has been smart with his money over the last 15 years and now ready to ride into the sunset. So long as his wife doesn't divorce him or he's been smart enough to avoid bad business deals; I think he will be alright.
