So what do you think? Would Okoye be a good fit? Remember he is only 24 now. That is about what most guys are when they graduate college.

Saw that he had over 40 tackles and 3 sacks last year. ???

The Broncos have made contact with representatives for free agent defensive tackle Amobi Okoye. The Texans had given Okoye, a former first-round pick by the team, permission to pursue a trade.

When no takers emerged with a trade offer, however, the Texans waived Okoye. Okoye was one of the most athletic defensive line prospects in that ’07 draft, he hasn’t always been able to consistently show that in the NFL.

Do what it takes. Bring him in, coach him up, and let him become the guy he was supposed to be when he was drafted in the 1st round.

For heaven's sake, if we "kick the tires" but don't buy one more DT I think I'll lose it.

So far, the Broncos have looked at (expressed interest in and contacted or brought in):

Mebane
Cofield
Jenkins
Hatcher
Landri
and now Okoye

None have signed with us. All play our #1 position of need. What the **** are we doing here?

I think the kid has some potential. From what I remember reading he was used as an attacking DT in college. I believe that is what we are suppose to be implementing for our line this year. I'm sure he would need some time and coaching to become the player he has the potential to become but I think he could be a pretty good fit.

Yup. Go get that kid. MUCH better than that junk we've been running out there or most of the FAs left.

Im not picky at all when it comes to the Broncos signing a DT, but I think the Broncos need a run stuffing DT as opposed to a penetrater.

Okoye is a much better pass rusher than run stuffer, so I dont perfer him.

KC had their Okoye, now it's our turn... ;)

Bears signed him. http://twitter.com/vxmcclure23/status/97461885087125504 There goes another DT off the market we could have used. So much for our front office putting a priority on DT in free agency :coffee:

So if that's what Okoye does when you use the cheat code, what does Atwater do?

I'm sure if he was a good 24 year old DT, the Texans wouldn't have cut him. No big loss.

So much for Xanders being a cap specialist. I don't understand how all these teams can find a way to make it happen but we can't.

WE WON 2 GAMES LAST YEAR. If we are that tight on money there are a lot of guys on this team that are unbelievably overpaid.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

It's official... I'm concerned.

Considering he had to hit the waiver wire, Its a serious head scratcher that we did not put a claim on him and take on his whopping $2.95 million salary?

Looks like going cheap just cost us another DT.

If it was that quick, Denver was probably not all that interested

There's something Elway and Xanders know that we don't, has to be something they're waiting on *cough* Miami *cough* *cough* Randy Starks *cough*

Why did they release him?

By the way... looks like were going to resign Marcus Thomas.

Okoye officially signed with the Bears...but we signed McGahee according to PFT, officially...but for some reason it doesn't help the bad taste I've developed in my mouth!

Didn't John Fox say he wanted to upgrade the defensive tackle position? Seems he's downgrading it and will continue to do so.

I know.

okoye didn't live up to his draft status, but a lot of people expected that, considering he was only 20 when he got drafted. He is more talented than the other DTs on our roster, is coming of age, and had a cheap price tag. we definitely should have made a play for him.

put my name under the 'what the hell are we doing?' column.

Why did they release him?

Phillips didn't think he was a fit for the 3-4 they were going to. Same reason Vilma wound up on the Saints...where he killed it in the 4-3 where he belonged.

Okoye has absolutely not lived up to his potential yet, but DTs take a while and the Texans seem to have gotten very little out of that DL - not surprising considering their defensive coaches were ass.

Unsurprising. Hey dog - that's one of the two. Now we just need to sign the ex-Panther and we're golden on plugging that huge hole in the middle, right? :tsk:

And I think he's at least a better option than Okoye.

IMO they are similar players, but it wouldn't have hurt my feelings to have 2 young UTs on our roster.
