Head Coach Mike Shanahan has announced that the Broncos have signed running back Alex Haynes and placed Ryan Torain on injured reserve.

Torain marks the third Denver running back moved to IR after he suffered a left knee injury in the Broncos’ win at Cleveland last Thursday. He was having success against the Browns, rushing for 68 yards and his first career touchdown on just 12 carries.

Then on a carry in the second quarter, Torain was tackled and another defender rolled up awkwardly on Torain’s knee. Trainers worked on him on the bench and he jogged up and down the sidelines, but he eventually headed to the locker room and did not return.

The 5-foot-10, 230-pound Haynes is in just his second year in the NFL, and he began 2008 with the Ravens, who waived him on August 30.

He originally joined the Ravens in 2005 as a college free agent out of the University of Central Florida, and since then he has spent time with both the Ravens and Panthers.

He has appeared in nine games for his career, all last year with Carolina. He ran the ball three times for three yards in those games while also catching three passes for 14 yards. He also posted three special teams tackles.

Haynes finished his collegiate career at Central Florida as its all-time leading rusher, posting 3,356 yards on 742 carries. His 27 career rushing scores ranked second in UCF history.

Isn't that PJ Pope guy on our practice squad, too? I'm assuming he gets promoted to the active roster as well.

According to the Denver Post the Broncos are fully prepared to go with Peyton Hillis and Selvin Young as our RB's for the rest of the season....Also, this news was posted in the thread I started about nabbing a RB today.

It appears the Broncos are prepared to finish the season with Peyton Hillis and Selvin Young at tailback.

Following a running back tryout Monday at their Dove Valley practice facility, the Broncos signed fullback Alex Haynes, a former teammate of Brandon Marshall and Matt Prater at Central Florida.

Haynes, 26, has been with the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers. He appeared in 10 games for the Panthers last season, gaining 3 yards on three carries.

Haynes will back up Spencer Larsen at fullback while Hillis, a fullback by trade, will stay at tailback along with Young and P.J. Pope, who was promoted from the practice squad last week

No, I'm not very high on Haynes, just sharing info.

Prefer Caulcrick by a wide margin.

I think the Bronco's are stupid for ignoring a guy that can play either position and is a natural goal line back.

39 TD's

With the holes we can open, he would be the next Brandon Jacobs, weighs 254 pounds, runs a 4.5

I'm sure the Jets will counter with putting him on their active roster, but, we have enough lower round draft picks to make them reconsider.

We are in first place, you don't go after scrubs when you are trying to win a division.

So we signed a RB to play FB and we are moving our FB to RB? Okay...I'd probably rather see Hillis tote the rock anyways, but sometimes the logic of our front office befuddles me.

So this is a green light to grab Hillis off my fantasy football waiver wire?

I don't really know much about Caulcrick except that he's not on a roster right now and that 3.9 YPA isn't good in the NFL much less in college. With the 21 TD his senior year he really looks like a short yardage back at best. If that's not what the coaches wanted to bring in I don't have a problem with that eventhough there are guys on this site who are high on him.
