As if they weren’t hit hard enough with injuries, the Broncos suffered two more significant ones at linebacker and safety.

D.J. Williams tore his medial collateral ligament and will be sidelined four weeks, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Tuesday. This means that Williams and cornerback Champ Bailey, Denver’s best two defensive players, might not play at all in the month of November.

Also, veteran safety Marlon McCree suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to Miami and will be out three to four weeks.

“Any time you lose your two (defensive) captains (Bailey and Williams), obviously it’s a setback,” Shanahan said. “(Williams) has been a great leader. He leads by example. He is not a big talker, but he practices and plays the same way—full speed all the time. He’s a playmaker, he has great speed and great tackling ability and he is just a guy who has been very consistent for us. It’s one of the reasons we signed him long term.”

Now they have lost him for short term.
