For all you folks who are jersey number types (so you can run out and change your Madden roster), Miller has chosen to wear #58 to honor Derrick Thomas.

Man, his two choices were #58 and #56. I was kind of hoping to see 56 out there again!

56? Did Ayers change his number or something?

Robert Ayers wears #56. He wears it in honor of Al Wilson (also a Tennessee grad).

That's what he said when interviewed on 104.3 yesterday. They specifically asked if he'd been given a number yet.

I forgot about Ayers. Maybe he changed his number or Miller was confused?

Nate Irving was #56 in college, so you may see #56 at MLB once again,
depending on whether Ayers will give it up and how much he wants for it . . .

You will Joe, except now his name is Nate Irving, and I have no idea what number he will be wearing.

I hope Ayers changes his number. I disagree with DL wearing jerseys in the 50s.

I was kind of hoping Miller would wear 90. I like LBs wearing #s in the 90s. I was also kind of hoping Miller would wear 51 or 91. Having a number with 1 in it goes with a name that has three vertical letters like ILL. 58 is cool though too, especially if he plays like Derrick Thomas.

They do. LBs can be in the 50's and 90's IIRC. I don't think 40's are available to LBs. Only DBs, RBs, and TEs can wear numbers in the 40's I think.

EDIT* Here are the allowable #s. No, Miller can't wear 40.

QB, P, K

1-19

RB, DB

20-49

C

50-59, 60-79

G, T

60-79

WR

80-89, 10-19

TE

80-89

DL (NT/DT/DE)

60-79, 90-99

LB

50-59, 90-99

I know they do allow an overrun (like LBs wearing numbers in the 40's) during the preseason and offseason because teams have 80+ players on the roster and they can't possibly meet all the rules, but once the roster is cut down, guys have to get within the rules.

Although, if we listed Miller as a FB officially (and then just played him at LB) he could wear 40.

Frankly, I'm surprised that the league hasn't fined/forced Devin Hester to change his #. He was drafted as a CB and originally took #23 but he has been a WR for years and hasn't lined up as a DB since his rookie year. Maybe they just don't care enough to pursue it?

Larsen wears # 46. He played LB / FB. So, I hope they will let Von Miller wears # 40.

56 at DE?

It's not that unusual. Hugh Douglas wore number 53 and number 58 when he played. Chris Doleman wore number 56 when he played.

I like it..... a tribute to the very guy he's been compared too, Derrick Thomas. Lets hope that Miller has something NEAR the career Thomas had :salute:
