49ers give up three picks to move up, draft Colin Kaepernick
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 29, 2011, 6:31 PM EDT

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh did have a rookie quarterback he wanted to groom; just not in the top ten. San Francisco made a bold move to move up to draft Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick with the No. 36 overall pick. After a month of wearing his man crush on his sleeve, Silva is somewhere beaming like a proud parent right now.

The move wasn’t cheap. The 49ers traded their second round pick (No. 45), a fourth-round pick, and a fifth-round pick to move nine spots to grab Kaeperick. It was a risk worth taking and gives Harbaugh someone to mold from scratch in the NFL.

Think how Kaeperick’s life changed on Friday night. The Raiders reportedly wanted to move up badly for Kaepernick, but didn’t give the Patriots the trade package they were looking for. Instead, Kaepernick is set up for success with Harbaugh in San Francisco.

So much for waiting for Andrew Luck.

I was hoping for a 3rd, but maybe we can turn those picks into one yet.

Good move, a lot of the 2nd tier TE's are 4th round grades. Lots of good depth at 4th and 5th rounds.

So close to Rudolph. Maybe the first All Pro out of this draft.

It doesn't matter the Broncos won't pick an interior D-lineman either.

Yeah, I don't get this. We need defensive line, it's a major concern.
