Look up and down the Broncos' roster and the mistakes of drafts past are obvious.

They are obvious in the dearth of starters drafted by the Broncos, by the abundance of over-30 players who ended up in Denver through free agency, signed after starting their careers elsewhere.

...

Only eight players drafted by Mike Shanahan since 2004 remain on the team today, and three of those were from his final class in 2008. The biggest problem was that too many first- rounders from the 2000s, from Willie Middlebrooks in 2001 to George Foster in 2003 to Jarvis Moss in 2007, failed to pan out.

Elway and coach John Fox are new, of course, but general manager Brian Xanders worked for both Shanahan (he was hired just after

Josh McDaniels ran two drafts in his brief tenure as head coach. He made four first-round picks — with only one full-time starter among them — and ultimately cut or traded five other players taken in those drafts.

Now the question is if they can follow through. IF they get 3 of the 4 starters they are hoping for it is a huge step forward

I think it would be a huge step forward if they could even two starters.

Starter in DET IIRC.

Just maybe everyone was to eager to pull the plug on him, just maybe had there been a DL he and EVERYONE else would have looked better as well as had more confidence.

Alphonso Smith is in Detroit. Dean is talking about Perrish Cox.

Smith said his lack of confidence was do to the fact he had to play behind Champ Bailey.
