First question - what's with all the QB's? Within John's reply, "not saying that we don't have the franchise QB on our team now"

It was very informative - of course they could not be specific as to who they will draft.

With the final round of draft prospects going through interviews with the Broncos' coaching staff Wednesday morning, Broncos team executives said the team is close to finalizing its draft board.

The goal, executive vice president John Elway and general Brian Xanders said, is that by the time the NFL draft is over April 30 is to come away with a group of "really, really good football players," including at least four starters.

Speaking at the team's predraft news conference, Elway and Xanders emphasized the need for the Broncos to rebuild the franchise through the draft, not through free agency.

"The core group that's going to help us win for a long time, consistently win, is guys that we pick up through the draft,"

The one revealing thing Elway said in discussing "one year players" -- players who have only started in college for 1 year.

"Obviously that's a red flag" But then he said: "Clay Matthews was an example of a guy who was a starter on special teams and then he came in his final year and when he went to the Green Bay Packers he's had a successful career. So it can happen. And then there's Robert Ayers."

So, Ayers is an example of where a team picked a guy based on one-year's production and maybe "not that consistency" that you look for.

I'm guessing that Ayers wasn't Xanders' pick by that comment. Fox has said positive things about Ayers and he looks to be penciled in as a starter at LDE, but that was rather a giveaway that Ayers is an example of a player who hasn't "had that successful career.". :coffee:

Apples/oranges

Matthews didn't have to switch positions/schemes every year in the league.
