Bengals reportedly ready to part with Palmer, move on Kolb
The Cincinnati Bengals are ready to move on without Carson Palmer. Not surprisingly, ESPN reports — via Adam Schefter on Twitter — that in their hunt for a replacement starting quarterback, team officials have interest in Philadelphia Eagles backup Kevin Kolb. Part of the reasoning is that Kolb's position coach from a year ago, James Urban, has moved on to coach the Bengals' wide receivers.
The Bengals also have a new offensive coordinator, Jay Gruden. With his brother being Jon Gruden, that puts Jay right there with the extended West Coast-principled offensive "family", in which Eagles coach Andy Reid would be deemed a respected elder.

Too bad. Always thought Palmer was a good QB and it was nice to see him make the Bengals watchable again. Never the same after his injury unfortunately.
Palmer at one point was on the cusp of being elite like Manning or Brady. After his ACL, MCL and PCL tear he came back early at the behest of the Bengals.
At one point the Bengals had an offensive line with Levi Jones (an elite LT before his own injuries), Willie Anderson (a right tackle whose play was HoF worthy), Eric Steinbach (pro bowl guard), Bobbie Williams (an above average RG) and Richie Brahm, the center who played a large roll in calling cadences and mentoring Palmer.
2007 hits and Willie Anderson and Levi Jones are lamed by injuries. Brahm is out for the year and the only two OLmen we have left are guards. Brahm then retires, Anderson is in the twilight of his career, Steinbach is let go to the Browns (a move that haunts me still) and Bobbie Williams remains.
Between all of that, the suspensions, the defense that does nothing but implodes upon itself and playing in the friggen AFC North, it's not hard to see why Palmer, who then goes on to get a severe elbow injury in 2007, didn't come back to destroy the league like Brady did after his knee injury.
Fast forward to this year - Palmer knows that his career is in limbo, the Bengals had a very good and almost elite defense the year before. The offensive line is showing some promise and Cedric Benson was a terror on the league.
The Bengals, and surprisingly this is led by the worst owner in the NFL, piece together one of the best rosters in the NFL.
Surely this is the final push, right? No more of the one year wonders under Marvin Lewis, now it's time to win some games...in the playoffs, right?
No.
The addition of Terrell Owens is statistically succesful, but in the end a failure. Bengals fans watched their new hero (this is where I vomit) quit at the end of games, drop tons of passes, free lance routes which lead to INT's and ultimately make us ask "where the **** is Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell).
Cedric Benson isn't running the same, there are rumors that he is mad the Bengals aren't a run first team which are then supplemented by questionable media comments.
The Offensive line does put together a decent season, but not good enough. Marvin Lewis fails to galvanize his team (again...god dammit) and the Bengals defense fails to carry the team.
In short, Carson Palmer has 80 million dollars in the bank and no ****s are given.
In terms to getting Kolb, sure, why not? He's a better prospect than any of the guys in the draft and the Bengals have a ton of needs elsewhere. In other words, Bowsers, Quinn, Fairley and A.J. Green would look great in stripes.

Kolb gives you less than Orton. Typical move by the Bungles.

I don't know if I agree with that. Both are decent pocket passers, but Kolb is much more athletic.

I'll go with what JMiller/PKirwin/RGannon/TRyan all say:KOrton is a better qb than CPalmer. KOrton would be a better replacement than KKolb.

I am not sure Palmer can't still be a good QB with another team.
I will explain why a team would want Kolb over Orton. Orton, who is a pretty good player, is older and less talented than Kolb.
Kolb is more athletic, has a stronger arm and coming out of college a lot of people felt that he has the ability to be a true franchise player, something that Orton, who I am a fan of, is not.
So, now reread this, a lot of teams would rather take a gamble on Kolb fulfilling his potential than settling for Orton, who is a known quantity.
Another thing is, in the AFC North, you may have heard of it, mobility is a big plus because the Steelers and the Ravens make their bones by smacking quarterbacks around. That is actually one of the reasons for Palmer's decline.

I expect Palmer to sign with a team that will immediately declare him their starter. Any team west of the Rockies, not named the Chargers, would probably do that. Denver of course is in the Rockies and therefore doesn't count. Miami, Jacksonville & Tennessee would probably do the same.
