This question - answer, was somewhat along the same lines as your question:

What happens to free agents if a deal isn't reached soon? Is it possible that they might miss out on the upcomming season if they aren't able to learn their team's scheme beacause of the lockout?

Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL.com
Andrew, right now, there are no player signings and as such no free agency activity. depending on when a deal is struck will determine how long that window is open for free agents to sign with their current or another club this offseason. This is another reason we should get this agreement done as quickly as possible.

I found the following question and answer interesting:

The owners got their hands caught in the cookie jar when Judge Doty exposed their shady dealings with the TV contracts. How do the owners get the players to trust them again after something like that?

Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL.com
Jeremy, The Special Master ruled in favor of the owners. While Judge Doty has overturned that, we are waiting for final determinations from his court before making decisions about next steps. I believe the contracts that we entered into were good for the NFL, the players and the owners. When we completed the contracts we received a congratulatory note from the union.

I imagine he's going to give lots of consolatory, vague answers.
