Russell to IR; Martinez Returns

Clifford Russell has been placed on injured reserve, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced Tuesday.

Russell suffered a sprained neck on a scary injury during the Broncos’ loss to the Chiefs Sunday, and he had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. He did make it back to Denver on the team plane following the game after being cleared by doctors at a Kansas City medical facility.

To fill Russell’s roster spot, Shanahan also announced the re-signing of Glenn Martinez.

In 17 career games with Denver and Detroit, Martinez has posted 15 receptions for 186 yards. He also owns 14 career punt returns for 157 yards with one touchdown and 15 kickoff returns for 330 yards.

In Denver in 2007, Martinez was the team’s primary punt returner — he returned one for a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football.

He spent the 2008 offseason and training camp with the Broncos but didn’t make the final roster as the team trimmed down to the league-mandated 53-man limit.

Now he’s back in Dove Valley.

I really hope Russell is ok and they are giving him as much time as possible to heal and recover. For nothing but self fish reasons I'm so glad Glen is back...:D

it's great to hear that russell is okay! and i like bringing back martinez-- i think he's pretty solid as far as end-of-the-roster types of receivers go. . . he's not going to wow anyone, but he's a competent guy that plays hard, knows the scheme and can catch the ball-- and he has some experience in the return game. . .

I guess we couldnt find another scrub to try and make the Defense go, but a scrub to help the offense was a need it seems.

That and you can cringe every time he touches a football. Is he going to fumble?

enh. . . i truly doubt there's anyone available right now that can help this efense (besides a differnt DC, possibly). . . the O is the only decent unit we have, we're pretty much going to live or die by them this year-- may as well keep the personnel strong on that side of the ball. . . and WR depth is a need as long as Djax is out. . .

Well for one thing we both have brown eyes and black hair. Second he works his butt off and really cares about kids in our community and will help me with Meck's Foundation. Third he's just a sweet kid and doesn't run when he sees me.....

You may be right, im sure the D pool of left overs isnt very select, but well, are the players we have on the team at this point and achieving absolutley nothing better than whats on the street? I find it hard to believe we couldnt find another scrub to play the worst side of the ball, as opposed to adding another scrub to cover the better side of the ball.

The D isnt going to just get better without doing something to make it better, be it a scrub with a motor(sounds like Glen at least he is considered for hustle) or a mammoth to just not get pushed back 4 yards...

Good points, but you did not get to the meat of the issue.

In your opinion, does Glenn look like a Latin dancer, and if so, does that intrigue you?

Yes he looks like a backup to dancing with the stars(backup;), No not in the least, sadly the latin dance soft core porn stache doesnt help me find the joy of the loins!

I do give the guy credit though, he seems to have the Mustard(chad) to find a roster spot.

That Madonna dancer looks like he is in better shape than Glenn...I bet he is used to seeing lots of balls coming his way, maybe we should sign him instead of Glenn.

I wish they would let Glenn play with no jersey, just shoulder pads, and when he is not playing, he should have a little exercise bike he can ride with a mininature horsey Madonna saddle.

And at timeouts they have a guy whose job it is to pour baby oil all over Glenn's heaving chest.

Just an idea. Thoughts?

He should tie colorful ribbons to his arms right where the bicep seperates from the shoulder. Also, sweatbands are a must.

He can lead the team in pilates and step aerobics before the game and wear one of those little microphones on his face.

Message given Bief, you should of seen me running around after the game trying to get the kid to hear me. He walked into the fence area and I yelled Glen it's p..., and jumped up as far as my 48 year old legs would let me, which I think was 1/2". He started laughing and walked over, I said ok glad to see you and I have a special message for you, gave it, then we talked for a minute. So you can sleep well tonight....:D

Caught a tough pass on a sideline route, then had his own man tackle him on a punt return.

I like the kid. Way better that Clifford Russell or whatever. Plus I pretend Madonna is riding him around.
