I'll count this one.
The stadium will have as much Crimson as Green this weekend, and OU will annihilate them. Baylor still has a ways to go.
Last year CU beat OU a week before the Red River shootout, while KSU undressed UT...
I don't have alot of faith in Baylor's ability to upset OU, but let's hope we can send the horns to the cotton bowl in a sour mood.
Have I mentioned my disdain for Mack Brown lately?

I've no great love for Texas, but as a Sooner fan I'd rather beat an undefeated Texas on a neutral field.
You guys have a shot though. Texas isn't the same powerhouse as they were 3-4 years ago. Especially this year. On offense McCoy's about all they got, they're pretty one-dimensional.

Yeah, but all of the sudden having McCoy as the centerpiece to your offense doesn't look so bad. I watched the UT v. Arkansas game and it was tough to find many weaknesses in his play. Combine that with Quan Crosby catching balls, and their usual solid defense with that monster at DE (I forget his name, but Mack Brown was saying he's one of the best pass rushers they've ever had)... They're solid. They're not Vince Young national championship year solid, but they're a legit Top 5-10 team this year, no doubt.
Needless to say I don't like the Buffs chances. That Red River Shootout is gonna be a hell of a game this year though. 2 pretty evenly matched teams.

Arkansas's a joke. I think Plano High School could beat them. You guys will be able to at least make a game out of it at Boulder.
What time is that game at?

Yeah, as long as the Buffs don't let the game get away from them I'll be happy. I just don't want to see anything remotely resembling 70-3.
Kickoff is 5 PM local... So 6 if you're on central time.

OU had a good tune-up heading into the Red River Rivalry.
However, OU needs to improve it's running game. I'm afraid that might come back to haunt them down the road.
That QB for Baylor has some talent. They might actually be able to build on him for the next couple of years, and let A&M take over the basement of the Big 12 South.

What a bullshit call. "The call is confirmed." What? He was at least a yard forward of the line of scrimmage when he threw that football.
Big 12 officials are the worst in college football.
This is about the worst case scenario for the Buffs. Outside of ok D-line play, and that one INT, they look terrible. The offense looks overmatched.

Yeah, I'm sure he just made up the fact that a player spit in his face...
Sorry, not buying it Bo.
Mildly amusing:
Counselor: Okay, everyone, sit down. We're going to start our first
therapy session. Who would like to share first?
Kansas State: Uh, I guess that I'll go first. Well, our defense...
Counselor: Before you go on, make sure you tell everyone your name and
why you're here.
KS: Oh, I'm sorry. My name is Kansas State, and I don't have a defense.
Everyone: (In unison...) Hi, Kansas State.
KS: (Scratches behind head...) Yeah, anyway, I don't know exactly what
happened, but my defense just packed up and left over a year ago. I
can't figure out what I did wrong; just, one day, without any warning,
I showed up to the stadium and there it was, a "Dear John" letter,
saying that things weren't working out and it was leaving.
Counselor: Kansas State, how did that make you feel?
KS: Well, it made me feel vulnerable. Timid. Scared, and not smart.
Counselor: Have you tried finding your defense?
KS: Of course. I called. I left messages. I even wrote it a song. I
told it that I missed it and wanted it back. It told me, "No."
Counselor: What did you do after your defense said that?
KS: I cried.
Counselor: Okay...OKAY! I think we're making progress here. What have
you done since to overcome your loss?
KS: I'm basically letting every offense score on me like I really need
the money.
Counselor: Alright...that's not healthy. We'll address that later.
Moving on. Let's see here, anyone want to volunteer to go next?
Anyone? Do I have to call on someone? Alright, then, Nebraska, what's
going on with you? Why are you here?
Nebraska: Nothing's wrong. I'm only here because the conference told
me that I had to come today.
Counselor: Are you sure nothing's wrong? Nothing is bothering you
right now? Also, tell everyone your name.
Nebraska: Ha! Give me a break. Everyone knows who I am. There isn't a
damn thing wrong with me. Sure, I've come on hard times in the last
couple of years, but I'll be back. The great ones always come back.
I've just got to try harder. That's all.
Counselor: (Turns head and whispers into a recorder) Classic case of
denial with a hint of narcissism.
Nebraska: I'm sorry, did you say something?
Counselor: Nope. Who's next?
Colorado: I'll go.
Counselor: Good. Go ahead; tell us who you are.
Colorado: I'm Colorado, and I'm really confused right now.
Counselor: Why are you confused?
Colorado: I was told there would be beer and strippers at this party.
But from what I can tell, there's no beer, and this isn't a party.
Counselor: Who told you there would be a party here today?
Colorado: The guy that recruited me to come here. He said there'd be
beer, weed, and I'd for sure get laid. But, I gotta tell you, all I'm
seeing are a bunch of lame teams, and Kansas State is really creepin'
me out. Dude keeps telling me he'll let Cody Hawkins score on him all
day, long time.
Counselor: K-State, stop letting everyone score on you! Have you no
self-respect?
KS: (Sobbing...) I can't st-st-st-oooooop...
Counselor: Alright, anyone else?
Iowa State: Hi, my name's Iowa State, and I'm invisible.
Counselor: Who are you again?
IS: Iowa State. You know, the Cyclones?
Counselor: Are you on my sheet? When did you join the Big 12?
IS: I've been here since the league was founded.
Counselor: Really?
Texas: I've never heard of you. Hey, Okie, you heard of this guy?
Oklahoma: Nope.
Counselor: You can share if you want, but I'm not sure anyone paid for
you to be here.
IS: You're all a bunch of dicks.
Oklahoma State: (Flashing a mouth of gold teefus...) Yo, yo, yo! What
up ya'll! Oklahoma State in the hizzy.
Oklahoma: Seriously? What are you up to Vanilla Ice?
OS: Fo' rizzle. I gots mo' money than all ya'llz. I'm 6-0, I've got
more coin than Kanye, and my coach gots more oil in his hair than T.
Boone's got in his wells boooyyyyeeee!
Counselor: God help me.
OS: Don't be down, yo. I'm just keepin' it realz. Okie State in the
hizouse.
Oklahoma: You're an idiot, and I'm going to kick your ***.
OS: Bring it biznatch. I'll bring my crazy option offense, and we'll
see if you can do a better job stopping it than Missouri did.
Missouri: (Shrieks in pain...) Oh GOD why? WHYYYYYYY?
Counselor: Missouri, would you like to share?
Missouri: No, I don't want to SHARE. You saw the game on Saturday. I
don't want to talk about it!
Counselor: Now, now. It's okay. Teams lose big games all of the time.
Missouri: We don't. When was the last time we were this good? When was
the last time we were a legit contender for the national title? Huh?
When? If you answered "never" then you'd be right. No one knows how
this feels.
Kansas State: If I may interject...
Missouri: Don't give me that sob story about 1998.
Kansas State: I'm just sayin'. At least you lost to a really good
team. Look at what's become of the team we lost to.
(Texas A&M sits in the corner eating a bottle of Elmer's glue...)
Kansas State: See?
Missouri: Yeah, we'll you didn't lose to Flava Flav over there. Mine's
worse.
(Oklahoma State admires it's diamond encrusted chain...)
Kansas State: Oh, really. Let's see shall we. Hey, A&M, what's the
capital of Texas?
Texas A&M: Unicorns.
Kansas State: And what's your school's mascot?
A&M: Burt Reynolds.
Counselor: A&M? Jesus, what happened to you?
A&M: We hired Mr. Fran, and he said that we were gonna be real good,
and then he made us not real good, and then he beat our program with a
brick until we was retarded. Then we hired Mr. Sherman, and he picked
up the brick and started beating us until we gots more retarded.
Counselor: I don't think I can help you.
A&M: That's okay. You gonna eat them sparkles?
(A&M starts eating glitter...)
Counselor: Moving on. Baylor, would you like to share?
Baylor: Is it my turn to pray?
Counselor: Well, you can do what you like, but this isn't a prayer
circle. It's our group therapy session.
Baylor: Oh, I know, but I figure you God-forsaken, public university
heathens could use it.
Texas Tech: Someone's bitter.
Baylor: I would be too if I lived in Lubbock.
Tech: Hey, wait a damn minute!
Baylor: Oops. Dear Lord, I apologize...
Tech: I'm gonna whoop your *** son!
Counselor: Hey, Tech, back off. He's saying he's sorry.
Tech: Does it look like I care? Out in West Texas, we shoot first and
don't even attempt to play defense later.
Counselor: Well, now you've gotten better with your defense in the
last few weeks. Let's explore that.
Tech: What is there to explore? Keep it simple stupid. Score more
points than the other guy. We win.
Oklahoma: How many South titles have you won there big guy?
Tech: (Grumbles...) Shut up, butthead.
Counselor: Oklahoma, would you like to share?
Oklahoma: I got nothin'. The only thing that I'd change about myself
is, well, nothin'.
Texas: Spoken like a true narcissist.
Oklahoma: I can't believe you even know what that word means.
Texas: I know what a lot of words mean. You know, like, SCOREBOARD!
Oklahoma: You son of a...
(Texas drops its pants and moons Oklahoma...)
Counselor: Well, I think we've heard from everyone, but I think I'm
missing someone. I only count eleven. Who's missing?
(Kansas pops its head into the room...)
Kansas: Hey, has anyone seen my running game?
Counselor: Kansas! There you are. Why didn't you show up for the
session? The Big 12 said everyone needed to be here today.
Kansas: Yeah, I'm not big on ‘rules'. Rules are for people that are
too stupid to find their way around them.
Baylor: You should be ashamed of yourself!
Kansas: Hey, you do things the right way, and you're in the basement
of the conference. I go on probation in multiple sports, commit
academic fraud, and get the dreaded "Lack of Institutional Control"
tag, and I get an Orange Bowl win and a national title.
Oklahoma: See, he gets it!
Counselor: I don't think we need to be promoting that kind of behavior
Oklahoma...
Nebraska: Hey, can you tell me how to cheat and get away with it? I'm
getting kind of desperate over here.
Missouri: Me too. Dude, you know that I, like, hate you, but could you
tell me how to cheat too?
Oklahoma State: Yo, homes, me too. I'll pay cash money.
Kansas: Anyway, I just stopped by to see if anyone saw my running
game. If it's not here, I gotta run. I've got tests to take for
incoming recruits. If you guys want the scoop, ring me on my cell.
Oklahoma State: I'll hit you back dog.
Counselor: Okay, I think this is a good place to end this week. I
don't want this going off on a bad tangent. Everyone, please don't
cheat, like Kansas. Please don't let everyone score on you like Kansas
State, and for God's sake, don't hire Mike Sherman. That's borderline

OU has outplayed everybody in the Big 12 since mid-October, including TU.
Take away some points from TU for their win over Mizzou, since they lost to an unranked team.
ADD points to OU for beating a ranked team AWAY, by 20pts.
OU SHOULD overtake TU in the computer rankings, so now it's up to the humans....
...and the vote isn't made public - so any OU haters out there that vote can put TU over the top if they so desire.
Mack Brown is a frikin' cry baby. He's been whining about bowl consideration for 5 years! His ONLY point is his head-to-head with OU, but if he's going to use that, then he also has to use his head-to-head LOSS to TTU- So I guess TTU should play in the Big 12 Championship, huh? What a gomer.
I think they should go by by point differential in the conference games. And of course, OU EASILY beats out both Texass teams. 254pts in the last 4 games!!!!!!
And while I'm at it...lol....if Bradford doesn't win the Heisman, then there is DEFINITELY some bribery going on in the NCAA! 46TD's and 6Int's - 60+% completions - 4000yds - highest scoring offense - 85+% TD scoring in the redzone

I thought it was pathetic for a coach to be begging! USA and Harris polls have OU ahead which is right because OU has been the best down the stretch. OU and Texass should have to play again to settle it and I'd put my money on OU this time. I have no dog in this fight but I really dislike Texass!

Its hard to say. Its disappointing to me that it comes down to this crap. Texas did play the toughest stretch of football this season of just about any team, and they came through it with just one loss, on the final play of the game against one of the best teams in the nation, and yet they are going to get punished because it was earlier in the season...

I know I'm an outsider (SEC fan) but looking at the schedule since the Red River game, the schedules are basically identical. Head to Head goes to Texass but down the stretch I believe OU was the better team.:ohwell: Florida beating Texass in the NCG wouldn't be a bad thing either.

I don't like the "down the stretch" stuff. Supposedly in college football the regular season means more than in other sports. If that really is the case, the whole season counts, and Texas' schedule was tougher because of those four games they played in a row, whilst OU got to spread those games out. Plus, Texas beat OU. Exactly why this is all f'd up, but in regards to that, Tech's loss was worse than Texas'...plus, we're left with the Texas-Oklahoma discussion because of WHEN Tech lost, and that isn't right either.
This system sucks.
All three would be in the 16-team playoff idea that I like the most, so we wouldn't be having this discussion.
BTW, Mack Brown votes. Bob Stoops declined the offer.
The USA TODAY Board of Coaches is made up of 61 head coaches at Division I-A institutions. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association. This season's board: Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech; Mike Bellotti, Oregon; Bret Bielema, Wisconsin; Bobby Bowden, Florida State; Tommy Bowden, Clemson; Art Briles, Baylor; Mack Brown, Texas; Neil Callaway, Alabama-Birmingham; Gene Chizik, Iowa State; Mario Cristobal, Florida International; Sylvester Croom, Mississippi State; Mark Dantonio, Michigan State; Butch Davis, North Carolina; Todd Dodge, North Texas; Randy Edsall, Connecticut; Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee; Jeff Genyk, Eastern Michigan; Turner Gill, Buffalo; Joe Glenn, Wyoming; Todd Graham, Tulsa; Jim Grobe, Wake Forest; Dan Hawkins, Colorado; Pat Hill, Fresno State; Butch Jones, Central Michigan; Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville; Mike Leach, Texas Tech; Jim Leavitt, South Florida; Rocky Long, New Mexico; Bill Lynch, Indiana; Doug Martin, Kent State; Urban Meyer, Florida; Les Miles, LSU; Shane Montgomery, Miami (Ohio); Hal Mumme, New Mexico State; Rick Neuheisel, UCLA; Tom O'Brien, North Carolina State; George O'Leary, Central Florida; Gary Patterson, TCU; Bo Pelini, Nebraska; Chris Petersen, Boise State; Gary Pinkel, Missouri; Mike Price, Texas-El Paso; Mark Richt, Georgia; Mike Riley, Oregon State; Rich Rodriguez, Michigan; Greg Schiano, Rutgers; Howard Schnellenberger, Florida Atlantic; Mark Snyder, Marshall; Frank Solich, Ohio; Steve Spurrier, South Carolina; Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee; Jeff Tedford, California; Joe Tiller, Purdue; Bob Toledo, Tulane; Dick Tomey, San Jose State; Jim Tressel, Ohio State; Tommy Tuberville, Auburn; Charlie Weis, Notre Dame; Kyle Whittingham, Utah; Tyrone Willingham, Washington; Ron Zook, Illinois.

We know that's a problem. It has been for years. Most coaches only watch their own game each week, and then they vote on Sunday, or Saturday night, without having any clue how things happened.
If you look at the 40-31 Nebraska win on Friday, and look at some of the stats, you'd probably think that Nebraska dominated that game, when they didn't at all.

The way I see it, OU was hurt by the way they won against TTU! Because all that did is drop TTU further down and somehow add to TU.
Funny thing, though.... what would have happened had OU squeaked by TTU? Would TTU have been ahead of TU, where they should have been, since THEY WON IN THE HEAD TO HEAD?
The only people that think TU got screwed are TU drones, or ESPN drones. Nobody with facts can possibly justify TU ahead of OU. OU beat better teams, and more of them, than TU did. TU is doing what B Snyder did for years and was ridiculed for....playing cremepuff teams to up their W column.

Trailing the No. 1 Sooners nearly all game, Colt McCoy and the No. 5 Longhorns grabbed control in the fourth quarter and refused to let go, pulling away for a 45-35 victory Saturday in one of the greatest games in the storied series between these Red River rivals.
Texas trailed by 11 twice in the first half and by eight in the third quarter before spoiling a fake punt and turning it into a go-ahead field goal. It was the first time all season the mighty Sooners were behind, and they answered by regaining the lead.
Oklahoma middle linebacker Ryan Reynolds tore a ligament in his right knee early in the third quarter and is out for the season.
Funny, how Texass didn't grab "control" until after Reynolds went out, in the 4th qtr.

For the record, I think Oklahoma is the best team in the south, and I've said it before, but Texas has very legit arguments as to why they are the team who should represent the south in the championship game.

That's a great argument for Texas. . .unfortunately it's the ONLY argument for Texas.
Their strength of schedule is weaker, their scoring differential against the same opponents is lower, and OU is playing better now after grooming a replacement for Ryan Reynolds at MLB (for the record, I don't think UT wins that game if Reynolds doesn't get hurt).
Then throw in the old "it's better to lose earlier than later" adage, and there's a pretty convincing group of arguments for OU to go. . .against ONE solitary argument for UT.

Unfortunately, if it comes down to OU and UT, I thought UT had the trump card, but obviously, the voters didn't see it that way.
The voters did see it that way. .. it was the computers that catapulted OU above UT. IIRC 4 of them had OU ranked #1 even over the undefeated Alabama due to strength of schedule etc.
Something that constantly makes me laugh is this. Prior to the BCS everyone complained that the voters didn't do a good job of taking these other factors into play when ranking the top teams. Everyone felt that the decision should be more objective, and less subjective. So they went out and created a compromise of human and computer polls to solve the dilemma of emotion, bias and uninformed voting creeping in. This is what the BCS was designed to do.
Then. . .every time since then, when the BCS doesn't agree with the human polls (due to differing computer models) everyone gets all emotional and upset with the BCS.
Well, heck. .. the BCS is doing just what it was designed to do, which is to lessen the impact of emotion and biased or uninformed voters by using more objective criteria. .. but even so only in a compromised manner along with those sometimes biased and often uninformed voters.
Bottom line is, people just like to whine and complain and argue. It really doesn't matter what the system is, we'll see the same thing.

You get the ball on the 40-yard line, and you have a throw-away, because you call a late-developing play against an aggressive, blitzing D, and so Daniel has to scramble for his life and throw it away. 2nd and 10 is a horrible run over right tackle, and 3rd down, you can't block enough and Daniel scrambles for a yard.

Here is the difference between Alabama and OU: OU is in love with the pass. Alabama is great on the LOS and actually has a coach who knows it and is willing to exploit this strength. OU has a strong left side also, but they like to pass too much. I think OU is more likely to feel like they have to pass even when they are having success with the run. I thought Alabama had the best chance of beating Florida than any of the other teams Florida may have been required to subsequently play.

Theres a good chance Texas will slide. Since the Conf Champ of the big 12 has been decided, there will be some who will now rank USC over Texas because USC is a conf champion and Texas is not. Plus, in the Harris poll UF was ranked #2 and beat the #1 team. Its unlikely that UF wont get a lot of #1 votes.

OU has TWO rushers with over 1,000 yards rushing for the season. . .and one of them didn't play last night. . .and they still put up 62 points. OU can run the ball, and they can pass it both. This is one of the most balanced offenses you will ever see, but you've got to watch more than one game to make that determination.
I am worried that OU's high-powered offense will lose some of their "touch" after a month-long wait to play in the National Championship game. They are liable to be a little rusty after so much time off, and there's no doubt that offense is their strong-point.

They HAD to pass, early on, because their #1 rb, Murray, wasn't back mentally from his dislocated kneecap from last year.
If you happened to have watched any of their games, since the Texass game, you'll come to realize that they CAN and DO run the ball....and quite nicely. They have THE largest Oline that opens up holes, and keeps Bradford's uni clean. Why would they run when they don't need to? You don't score 60+ by running the ball...but you also don't have 2 rb's with over 1000 yds each, by NOT running, either.
Denver is a "running team", but they're passing more this year than most.....because they have a qb and wr's/te's that are capable of making plays. So goes OU. If they need/want to run it, they can/will...otherwise, they'll pass. 50TD's/6Int's....13games. Show me where that's a bad thing.

The flip side of that is that OU's offense makes things a lot easier on the defense. It may be easier to allow junk points when you're up big, but it's also easier to play defense because your opponent is one-dimensional. It's only happened once this year, but when they play a team that can get a few stops on their offense and keep the game close, their defense doesn't look nearly as good.

I must assume you are talking about the Texas game. And again, Texas didn't have the lead even once until Ryan Reynolds went out in the third quarter. Once he was out, all of a sudden Texas became apparently unstoppable.
Now that the Sooners have recovered from the loss of Reynolds and groomed some replacements for other injuries on the defensive side of the ball they are looking better.
My Christmas wish would be to see OU and UT play again. No doubt it would be a GREAT game. Instead, I'll have to be content watching OU vs. Florida.

I understand what you're saying, but it's difficult for me to accept both that the loss of Reynolds was crippling at the time, and that it's not going to be that big a problem now. The first part I don't question; Texas found out how much it hurts to lose a defensive star when Brian Orakpo left the Tech game. But I'm not convinced that two months (or even three) is really going to be enough time to bring the OU defense back to where it was.
I'd love to see a rematch though. Frankly, while my inclination is that Florida is plenty good enough to be playing in the championship game, I think it's a little tough to make the argument for them based on what they've actually done this season.

Does the Red River Rivalry game have to be played early in the season? I know the in-state rivalry games are the last games of the season for Texass and OU, but maybe the schedulers can start making this game the second to last game on the schedule each year. I know this is just a message board but fans and alumn can voice their opinions to the schools and see what happens.
I could care less if Tex beat OU early in the season or who wins between the two teams. OU beat TT (very convincingly) which Tex struggled against towards the end of the season plus OU had a tougher non-conference schedule. Again, this game should be second to last game played on their schedules, JMO!

Nope...we weren't crazy
To ensure that the game — which produces about $17 million annually for local businesses — stays in Dallas, Dallas mayor Laura Miller supported a bond referendum to pay for more expansion and renovation at the Cotton Bowl. Additionally, the governing board of the State Fair engaged a consultant to prepare plans for a complete renovation. In November 2006, Dallas voters passed a $30 million bond issue for improvements to the stadium in addition to $20 million to come from the city and the State Fair of Texas.
Texas and Oklahoma agreed in 2006 to keep their game at the Cotton Bowl through 2010, but the future of the series remained in doubt. In February 2007, the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic announced it would move to the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington in 2010. The game receives a subsidy of $700,000 from the city of Dallas, which will end when the game moves out of Dallas.
In April 2007, Miller announced that Texas and Oklahoma have agreed to keep the game at Fair Park through 2015. The deal increases payouts to the two schools from $250,000 to $850,000, funded in part by the savings from the end of the Cotton Bowl Classic's grant. The stadium has now been renovated with a new video scoreboard, new seats, and many other improvements. Its capacity has been increased to more than 90,000 due to the addition of surrounding upper decks in both end zones.

Right. After they did all the renovations OU and UT agreed to stay there for awhile.
The controversy started about 4-5 years ago. The facilities were terrible. I think it was the '03 game one of the women's restrooms completely flooded and turned that whole area into a cess-pool.
Both teams threatened to leave, but then Dallas passed the bond issue and the Cotton Bowl is pretty-much a 1st rate facility again. I think they'll be there for quite a while.

True, but let's be honest; OU didn't HAVE a running game during that 'one time'. As I said earlier, Murray didn't get his confidence back from blowing out his knee until after that game. I imagine Stoops had something to do with that. ;) Of course, losing their starting MLB didn't help, which Texass took advantage of, clearly. Good teams will do that.
They're the most balanced/proficient team out there, and as long as they play like they have this season, instead of reverting back to bowl games-gone-by, they should be ok.
I'm not taking anything away from Florida....they, too, are balanced, and seem to have a decent defense.
