Some facts about the sack. That makes me smile when I say that.

Probability of going to playoffs if you register 40 or more sacks in the regular season: 67%
If you have less than 40: 25%

Sack totals of Superbowl teams past three years during regular season
2005: 50, 47
2006: 25 (Colts), 40
2007: 53, 47

Percentage of drives killed by a sack (QB sacked on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, and drive ends with FG/punt): 88%

How often a sack leads to a fumble: 17%

Broncos 2008 sack rate: 4.7%
Broncos 2007 sack rate: 7.2%
Average team sack rate: 7%
2007 Giants, SB XLII winners: 10.1%
2006 Colts in playoffs, XLI winners: 7.0%, but avg'd 2 picks a game
2005 Stillers, XL winners: 8.6%

Hey, the Colts did it...maybe there's hope

Funny... I've used the Colts analogy a few times around the boards this week.
Basically, that's what we're looking at, though remember... they had a productive Freeney at that time. We don't even have that.

It's not a total coincidence that the guy who owns the most SB rings of anyone is a DE.

maybe we can be the first team to win it all with a 9 sack season....er...maybe not?
