View Full Version : Da Bears can't cut it at QB

A lineman who played more than a dozen years and won multiple Super Bowls told me after the game that he was stunned Cutler was standing on the sideline, not on crutches, receiving no treatment while his team played on. And, the player said, what made it worse was that Cutler didn't appear to be counseling his backup, Todd Collins, or Hanie. And this all came on the heels of Mike Martz telling ESPNChicago.com's Jon Greenberg that criticism of Cutler's fundamentals, specifically his footwork, is "fair... You can't go through a lifetime with those kinds of habits and fix them in one season." Martz revealed that Cutler is still doing footwork drills twice a week, every week, and said the quarterback is working "diligently" and that "he'll get there."

Actually, that is totally false on whoever wrote that. I saw Cutler talking with Hanie on the bench right after his pick six.

There has been a full scale shit storm erupting on Chicago Sports radio all night long....but Bears fan's complain even worse (you couldn't tell by some of the overly dramatic posters here at BF) than pretty much every other fan base....they tolerate the Cubs sucking, and save all their vitriol for the Bears.

I find it curious that, once again, we have unnamed sources for a silly sports story. Why not come out and identify yourself.
Questioning Cutler behind a veil of secrecy is soft. Sorry for anybody who cant see that.
At least Gayle Sayers puts his name to his criticisms!

Unfortuantely for Cutler, his demeanor and attitude is what if fueling the firestorm right now. Listening to sports talk on the way home i heard them say he is just not really liked in the fraternity of players right now. Whether its from his time barking with Rivers while in Denver or just in general he is really not liked. I dont think ive ever seen a player seen as a pariah in the NFL like he is right now.

As weird as Brett Favre got..that dude played through just about every injury he had...Remember when DeBerg was the Chief's QB he had a pin in his pinky finger that was actually sticking out and I believe it was his throwing hand and he played like that.
But all players aren't the same and like someone else posted in another thread..Jay wasn't playing worth a damn so it didn't hurt the team with him on the bench.

Here's the problem with guys playing hurt.... They play hurt AFTER the game they get hurt in....
Maurice Jones Drew was bitchin about "You can play with that kind of knee injury..."
REALLY MAurice? cause THIS year.....you missed games when they counted due to a knee injury... Oh and lets talk about practice too. Funny during the game Cutler tries to go out and play.

from original article:
But we don't hear those Peyton Manning-like stories about Cutler, how he comes early to practice and stays late and works systematically and demonically at getting better. What we hear, even from teammates in both Denver and Chicago, is that Cutler is an arrogant, pouting player who rates himself quite highly. It's a characterization that is believed totally throughout the league, through almost any pro football circle you wander into. And because it's believed wholly that Cutler is a guy with a big arm, an overrated sense of himself and little if any heart, precious few people in Cutler's own fraternity had any sympathy for him during the game.

Judge him by his play during the game- He played shitty
The Bears own sideline reporter said that Cutler was working with Hanie on the sidelines, Hanie even said "Jay was helping me out there in between series"...
Tearing into Jay because you saw 5 seconds of video, which BTW was when he and Smith got into it when they sat him....... is really childish.

Now.... I understand that he sucked against a very tough pass rush that sacked him 14 times this year alone. Listen to his teammates... Who do you think knows Jay better..... US fans or guys playing each week with him?

But but but he was the answer to all their prayers. The last missing piece, the first real QB in 70 os so years.
They now really know what a punk he is. A ME player not a team guy.

But he gets hurt and they lose to the GB Packers, NOW we see him posting Cutler crap again  wow

Thats not true. Thats like saying that the Packers would have been better without Rodgers in the second half. The Bear fans are bitching, because they are looking for excuses.
Here is something that was just said on the radio.
Because of being type 1 Diabetic.. he can NOT take cortizone shots that most players can to take the pain away. So he gets sacked 60 times for the year, gets an MCL tear in a game, (same injuries that Hines Ward suffered and didn't play through) and is supposed to play.

It's well known that Ward lacks the toughness you'd like to see in an NFL player. I expect him to wash out after a short career.

What I find just freaking amazing is these same people are using Rivers as "The standard" for HOW Cutler should have played.
Rivers had SURGERY so he could then play.
Cutler had a shot at halftime and then went out and played.
Hines Ward had two weeks to nurse his MCL.
Maurice Drew Jones missed practices/games with HIS knee this year getting ice/pain meds during the week....
Every TV-Radio guy from Chicago has said that Jay was helping Hanie out. EVEN Hanie on Dan Patrick said...."Jay was helping me out"
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/danpatrick/
But... we know ALL about those who's hate for Jerk face makes them just LOVE thinking he quit..........

Like I said Ravage..all players aren't the same meaning Cutler apparently couldn't play after he was injured.
I'm not a Bears fan...it makes no difference to me whether Jay played in the second half.Rodgers was doing well for his team...Cutler not so well..so your statement I underlined isn't true...IMO.

Exactly. Whether people think these attacks on him are justified or not, Cutler really has no one to blame but himself. His behavior has caused this.

Think of what the Bears fans have gone through just in the past 6 seasons...
2005: Rex Grossman gets hurt - welcome KYLE ORTON
2006: Rex Grossman QBs team to Super Bowl
2007: Rex Grossman hurt - welcome Brian Griese
2008: Orton named starter
2009: Orton traded, Cutler named starter
2010: Cutler QBs Bears to NFC Championship then plays horribly and dings up knee causing major controversy.

I think maybe Rodgers... HIS second half-
6-15 79 yards 1 int- ZERO first downs...man 29.5 qb rating..... WOW he SHOULD have been pulled.
1 INT and 5 punts FOR A HALF!!!!! terrible .......zero points scored
Good thing his defense carried him all year
Edit- He was outscored 14-0 also. Seriously.... They should have gotten the back up ready to go.

I did not say anything about the Bears justifying the reason Cutler sat out and not admitting that they/Bears coaches pulled him due to poor play. In fact I didn't make any comments on either Cutler's or Rodgers play, saying it was good or bad. To be honest, I didn't see either the AFC or the NFC Championship games this past weekend so I can't comment and haven't commented on how well or how poorly Cutler, Rodgers, Sanchez or Rothlisberger (sp?) played in those games.

A broken bone ONLY shows up 4 days after the injury? Kinda wierd huh...

Thursday.. he has a broken bone/ ankle injury.
Here's a report YESTERDAY ( which btw is TWO days after I posted he's a puss for not being able to "walk it off").
http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/maurkice_pouncey_injury_information/4045619
We got some better news than expected from the MRI that was taken on the ankle. Pouncey has a high ankle sprain, there is no break or tear in the ankle. Pouncey is optimistic and expects to play in the Super Bowl. He has had this injury before and expects to be back on the field in three days
See the whole "He's had the injury before and expects to be back" thing threw me....
my bad three days later, after 3 days of therapy and treatment they found out he has a broken bone in his ankle.

my bad three days later, after 3 days of therapy and treatment they found out he has a broken bone in his ankle. From my unfortunately extensive history of injuries, it doesn't surprise me too much that the true or ultimate extent of the injury didn't show up immediately. I have gone in with injuries and had tests, X-Rays, MRIs, etc. that didn't initially produce a diagnosis of a broken bone, torn ligament, torn labrum, etc. Those diagnoses where only arrived at after I received therapy and they performed additional diagnostic tests, such as using contrast when they did the MRI, etc.
Although you may want to believe and imply that there is some conspiracy or cover-up going on, I know from personal experience that this situation with the diagnosis of Pouncy's injury isn't really unheard of or unusual.
BTW, if you are going to assert there is some type of conspiracy or cover-up going on with Pouncy's injury, you have to also recognize and accept that there might also be one regarding Cutler's injury where the Bears' coaches and medical staff may be exaggerating the severity of his injury and how it caused them to "pull" him from the game. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying or alleging that what so ever. I am merely pointing out that you can't allege that with one player and out right deny it with another player.
Jack Youngblood played 3 playoff games on a broken leg... Lets get this Uber sissy out there..... shoot up his Uber-sissy leg and go babyWell that would apply just as equally to Jay Cutler too.;)
And don't hand me any crap about how Jay couldn't be shot up due to his Diabetes (you or someone else stated that). If that is true, his diabetes may prevent him from receiving cortisone shots, but it is my understanding there are alternative pain meds diabetics can receive to accomplish the same thing. I am not however a doctor or professional in the medical field, but I did stat at a Holiday Inn Express.:D
If you are going to make the argument that Pouncy is an Uber-sissy for not playing with what ultimately appears have turned out to be a broken ankle and damaged ligaments, then it applies doubly to Jay Cutler who also suffered ligament damage, but didn't break any bones!
