DENVER (DenverBroncos.com) ― Below is the official news release from the Denver Broncos:

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall will be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for games played during the second week (Sept. 14-15) of the 2008 season, the National Football League informed the Broncos on Tuesday.

Marshall's selection as AFC Offensive Player of the Week marks the first such award of his three-year NFL career.

During the Broncos' 39-38 win against San Diego on Sunday, Marshall tied for the second-most catches in a game in NFL history with 18 receptions for 166 yards (9.2 avg.) with one touchdown. Marshall's reception total, which was double that of the next closest player for Week 2, was the highest single-game total in the NFL in eight seasons (Terrell Owens had a league-record 20 catches for San Francisco vs. Chicago 12/17/00).

In his last five games dating back to 2007, Marshall has posted the most catches in NFL history for any five-game period with 55 receptions for 577 yards (10.5 avg.) with four scores. He has totaled at least 10 catches along with 100 receiving yards in four of his last five games and leads the NFL in receptions (18) through Week 2.

A 2006 fourth-round pick (119th overall) by the Broncos from the University of Central Florida, Marshall now owns five 100-yard receiving games and four 10-catch games for his NFL career.

Marshall is the first Bronco to be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week since 2005 (wide receiver Rod Smith, Wk. 15 at Buffalo). His selection marks the 42nd time a Broncos player has received AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors since the award was initiated by the NFL in 1984.

Not to take away from Marshal, but it should have been Cutler.

You see statlines like Cutler's every week. It's not very often that someone catches 18 balls for 163 yards and a TD. I think Marshall was deserving.

True, but he was clutch, and not many game winning 2 point conversions.

Congrats to BMarsh, well deserved. He had a heck of a game. He really took it to a young solid CB in Cromartie.

If Jay continues to put up these numbers throughout 16 games, it isn't AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors he'll be winning.

Cutler, McFadden among FedEx Air & Ground nominees
NFL.com

Quarterbacks Jay Cutler of the Denver Broncos, Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay packers are the finalists for the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week honors for games played on September 14-15, while running backs Darren McFadden of the Oakland Raiders, Willie Parker of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Clinton Portis of the Washington Redskins are the finalists for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week honors, the NFL announced Monday.

Fans can vote for one player in each category on NFL.com/FedEx from 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday through 1 p.m. ET on Friday to determine the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week. The winners will be announced Friday evening on NFL.com.

Fans will be voting for more than their favorite player. As part of the Air & Ground program, for the first time, FedEx is teaming up with Safe Kids USA -- a national non-profit organization that works to prevent accidental injury among children -- to deliver safer kids by making weekly $1,000 donations in the winning players' names. The funding directly benefits local Safe Kids coalitions in that team's city, to fund pedestrian safety improvements throughout the year. This year, FedEx celebrates its fifth year of the program and will surpass the $1 million mark in funding to create safer communities for children.

New this season, fans can tune into the "FedEx Air & Ground Lowdown" posted only on NFL.com/FedEx starting Wednesday mornings. The show examines the nominees in the Air & Ground categories through exclusive video highlights and expert analysis. NFL Network's Marshall Faulk and Terrell Davis host the weekly show.

FedEx, the premier global provider of transportation, e-commerce and supply-chain management services, is the Official Delivery Service Sponsor of the NFL, Super Bowl and Pro Bowl. Through the weekly FedEx Air & Ground Awards, FedEx recognizes those NFL players who represent the same speed, precision and teamwork that their customers have come to expect from the full range of FedEx air, ground, freight and international shipping services, delivering safer kids in the process. With thousands of trucks out on the roads each day, FedEx is committed to improving pedestrian safety for children, by funding education programs and environmental improvements, from signage and crosswalks to pedestrian walkways near schools and playgrounds.

Week 2 Motorola Coach of the Week nominees
NFL.com

Below are the three nominees for the Week 2 Motorola Coach of the Week.

Dick Jauron, Buffalo Bills
Coach Dick Jauron led the Buffalo Bills to a 20-16 victory in Jacksonville despite being down by three points entering the fourth quarter. Trent Edwards led the Bills' effort and posted a passer rating of 119.8 in the process, completing 20 of 25 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown. The defense caused two turnovers to contribute to the win on the road. With their second win, the Bills are now 2-0 for the first time since 2003.Mike Shannahan, Denver Broncos
Mike Shanahan led a Denver Broncos team that stunned the San Diego Chargers in a last-minute 39-38 victory. The Broncos offense gained a total 456 yards and QB Jay Cutler passed for a career-best 350 yards and four touchdowns. Following Cutler's final touchdown that was caught by rookie WR Eddie Royal, Shanahan went for the win, and elected to go for a two-point conversion rather than an extra point. Cutler then hit Royal over the middle to seal the victory.Jim Zorn, Washington Redskins
Redskins rookie coach Jim Zorn recorded his first win in the NFL with a 29-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Zorn's decision to go for it on fourth-and-2 from the Saints' 32-yard-line with just under two minutes remaining paid off when Jason Campbell connected with Santana Moss on an 8-yard pass for the first down. The conversion allowed the Redskins to run out the clock. With Zorn calling the plays, the Redskins offense controlled the ball for over 34 minutes and gained a total 455 yards.

I feel pretty confident saying that the NFL Record for most catches in a game is going to be broken this year. BMarsh will amass this type of game again this year. The guy is outstanding. Im glad he's wearing our jersey. Thats for Dang sure.
