Broncos Hall of Fame Quarterback John Elway joins Vic & Gary Fridays at 8 a.m. to discuss the Broncos, the NFL and sports in general. On Jan. 7, Elway, the newly appointed Executive Vice President of Football Operations, discusses the hunt for the new head coach for the Denver Broncos, getting into his new office space and Gary Miller missing his spin class.

On his first few days as the Newly Appointed Executive VP of Football Operations

"We are refining our list as far as head coaching canidates. We really spent the last two days going over what the coaches evaluations of the players that we have now. It's been great information to get caught up on what everybody thinks about the different players that we have on the team. That's really where the most time has been spent."

On the cancelled interview with Mike Mularkey

"Mularkey pulled out on his interview with us because he wanted to concentrate on the playoffs. But we are continuing to work on our lists and who to interview. It's tough to wait another month. He's somebody that is very high on a lot of people's lists and he's still high on our list. We'd still like an opportunity to talk to him."

On Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh

"I told Jim when we were down at the Orange Bowl, that if he was interested in coming to the NFL we would love to be able to talk to him. If you want to stay in college (football) that's a different animal, but we understand that and we're not going to be able to compete with college because it's two different things. If you decide and want to reach out and go to the NFL, we'd love to be able to talk to you. It's coming down to Stanford and I think that Michigan is back in the picture. I think that he wants to stay in the college level. He has great opportunities, he really has to figure out what he wants to do. It's difficult because he has a great football team coming back at Stanford and top quarterback in the country coming back. He has his alma mater at Michigan, got San Fransico right next door to him. He's earned what he's got and done a heck of a job. He's a darn good football coach."

On Denver Broncos Rookie QB Tim Tebow

"The advantage is his attitude and work ethic. He wants to be the best that he can possibly be. He's not going to cut any corners to try to the be the best he can be. He didn't come out of a pro-oriented type offense. He came out of the option, the shot gun, foot work wise and technique wise that I've been able to see from the past three games, that's gotta improve. When you can improve his mechanics you can improve his accuracy. We have high expectations of Tim. The coach that comes in has got to be able to work with him as far as technique and accuracy. He's still young. He's a good football player because he wants to win, he’s a competitor. He has those intangibles that you can't coach, but the next guy that comes in as far the offense goes, they’ve got to be able to make him a good quarterback. Tim didn’t get a lot of reps during the season, Kyle was the one they gave all the reps to. I admired him for the way he played, but you have to understand that he’s still a rookie that has a long way to go. What we saw was his maturity and that he would compete in all circumstances, which is a great quality to have because you can’t coach it."

This and what he said that the conference about the next guy who comes in if he cant use Tebow he probably isnt the guy for the job. It sounds like John truly understands the situation with Tebow and isnt going to write him off like some have done in the fanbase.
