Maybe I'll be called a conspiracy theorist for this, but is it possible that Elway and Bowlen had a deal in place a few weeks ago and he told Bowlen he would want to bring in a new coach. Instead of hiring Elway and having him start out as the guy cleaning up shop, Bowlen fires Mcd and hires Elway a few weeks later with a fresh opportunity to build. To me this is not far fetched as Elway was an advisor to Bowlen, based on the ESPN article today.

It is so to me since, as I mentioned in another thread, Elway recently seemed
to hint at an opinion that perhaps McDaniels was released prematurely, except
for the filming affair, as I understood him.

That, and the fact that, while he said he would be interested in some capacity
in the FO, he still didn't seem to be frothing at the mouth for the job.

Actually, Elway seemed to like McDaniels. It seems to me that he looked on
McDaniels' dismissal as an unfortunate necessity due to circumstances. That
was my impression, anyway . . .

I may very well be. I don't recall anything from Elway to that effect, but I don't
pretend to have heard or read everything Elway has ever said, either. :shrugs:

I don't think anyone really knows the extent of what's really been going on in Dove Valley, after all...there's even a rumor that Pat Bowlen's children are demanding their father fire Joe Ellis.

Really? Ive never seen any quote from John that he did not like McDaniels in fact remembering seeing quotes in the past that he felt he was a good guy and coach. For the most part John has been quiet regarding all things Broncos.
