MINNEAPOLIS -- The roof of the Metrodome, where the Minnesota Vikings play, has collapsed during a snowstorm.

The Vikings' Sunday game against the New York Giants already had been pushed to Monday night. It isn't clear what will happen to the schedule now.

They should quickly try to move the game to Toronto and see how quickly an NFL game can sell out! Seriously, if this game gets moved to New York like the Saints "home" game did, the NFL is full of shit.

Looks like Monday's game most likely won't happen there either. Interesting situation - maybe they should play at TCF Bank Stadium - home of the Golden Gophers.

IMHO This should be the nail in the coffin for domed stadiums.

Personally, I'd love to see the Vikings play outdoors again. They were my 2nd favorite team growing up, and I hated to see them move indoors.

They just reported on Sportscenter though, that the Giants didn't travel with any of their heavy gear as they were planning on playing indoors. Therefore, they are woefully unprepared to play outdoors in Minnesota in December.

I guess they could have used Arrowhead today since the team was in KC...but then again the airport in MN may still be shut down.

I guess they would have been playing in an empty stadium though...

True, but they have 24+ hours to get proper equipment to them. Tell me an NFL franchise doesn't have the means to get that done...

It is football not ping pong

Exactly. Even if it means buying 53 sets of long johns and such at Dick's sporting goods. This shouldn't be too hard. Minneapolis is a major city after all.(even if guys from NYC can't fathom that) and I have no doubt they have any of the gear needed on hand locally

This fosters two thoughts in my feeble mind:

1. It's a good thing it didn't happen during a game, with a lot of people in there

2. I don't care how old the Metrodome is: It wreaks of shoddy workmanship and
lack of maintenance since. Don't they know it snows in Minnesota?

They will play in another domed stadium, maybe detroit (as just said on sportscenter).

Personally, I like indoor stadiums in places like Minnesota. Snow games (like we'll see in chicago, today) is fun to watch for a lil while. After that, as no team can do anything due to the swirling winds and negative temps.... is miserable for the fans, and miserable to watch.

The Chicago vs NE game could have been a good one today. Instead, its going to be a very limited game.

They just said it will be moved to Detroit or New Orleans. I would be pumped if it came to New Orleans, I might try to go catch the game.

I love watching snow games and football is a game that ought to be played in snow - spread offenses be damned. Trust me - the Bears won't care that passing will be difficult.

Back to the Metrodump issue, I think Toronto is a good idea except a few potheads may get caught at the border.

Then there's Detroit or Indy with Indy being perhaps the best true "neutral site". Maybe they could play down at the Jerrydome. But, yeah, I forgot about the Saints getting screwed after Katrina and it wouldn't shock me one bit to see the game moved to the Meadowlands.

Maybe the game should be moved to New Orleans as a form of payback for taking that game away from them in 2005.

We can call it the "Climate Change Bowl"...

BroncoJoe

It shouldn't be played at a neutral site. It's a home game for the Vikings. If anything, Detroit or TCF Bank Stadium (only 50k seats though...)

There is also snow in the Detroit forecast for tomorrow, which could affect travel. That's why they are also considering New Orleans.

I vote for TCF Bank Stadium. With the bad weather, 20k people probably won't go anyway.

PS - not that my opinion matters...

I just heard on NFLN it will be Detroit.

There is no doubt they need a new stadium. They've been pushing for one for a few years now.

That said, it's a different kind of dome. It's inflatable. Kind of works like a hot air balloon. The warm air inside keeps it inflated. I don't recall then ever having a problem with it in the past. They got dumped on big time. My niece lives there and has been in a hotel for the last couple of days as she can not get back and forth to work.

Okay, thanks for that. I had visions of large items crashing down. Inflatable is good.

The NFL moved Monday night's game between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants to Detroit after the Metrodome's roof collapsed in a blizzard.

Kickoff at Ford Field will be 7:20 p.m. ET.

The game will be broadcast in the New York City, Minneapolis, Rochester and Mankato, Minnesota markets. The game will also be available to Sunday Ticket subscribers on DirecTV.

Ticket holders for the original Giants-Vikings game will be admitted and given preferred seating along the 50-yard line. Free general-admission tickets will be available at the Ford Field box office beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
