Welcome to the forums Beef! that's a beautiful craft, I don't know much about airplanes, so I can't contribute much to this thread. You do seem like a real nice person though.

Maybe we can take a ride on one of those sometime.

They are awesome beef. I always felt safe on them as oppoised to the C-5. As a passeneger they are pretty uncomfortable. I was on a flight that was over 20 hours is, and its just not made for comfort. Unless you are in the crew quarters upstairs.

Sorry I failed you Beef. Ive been impressed 3 times watching this aircraft. 1 In Yuma Az, watching them train in the mountain areas... So impressive how big, fast and agile they are. 2. At a airshow in Florida. I couldnt believe the rate they could climb at takeoff. And 3. I saw one get targeted one time by something, and it released its flares, about 100 feet off the ground. It was actually kind of frightning because it was at night, very close, and it lit the night up like you wouldnt believe, but its evasive maneuvers were pretty impressive as well. I dont remember if it was taking off or landing... I was in line for the chow tent at the time.

C-17s are awesome aircraft.

Beef, last time we talked, you had a major hard on for B-1s. What happened to that?

Here are a few photos of C-17s I've taken.

do you like to fly in them SR?

SR
12-04-2010, 10:56 PM
Never have. I'd imagine they'd be like flying in a Mercedes compared to what I'm used to flying in. I was a flying crew chief on C-130Hs before I came up here, now I work on B-1s and there's no flying on those unless I manage to get an incentive flight, but I'm not counting on that.

I unloaded that hunk on a Canadian snow bird over in Sarasota.

I had a Canadian snowbird almost buy my Cobra over the summer. He was in FL, then went back to Toronto and he didn't buy my car, but sent me two big cans of Tim Horton's coffee.

And you never answered my question about B-1s. Is your love affair over?

I still like them. I wish there were some based in FL.

You and me both, friend. I'd take FL over SD 9.99 times out of 10. The summers here are pretty hard to beat. The rally in Sturgis is pretty outstanding as well.

Hopefully he ends up at MacDill AFB and not at Grand Forks, ND or McConnell, KS. They're good planes though. Very reliable. Their biggest problem are the MPRS pods on the outboard wings. They have a lot of problems and are manufactured in England, so getting replacement parts for them takes a while.

I think you'd like it Beef. It's about Navy fighter pilots at a School they call "Top Gun" awesome soundtrack. I enlisted in the Navy after being inspired by that movie in the 80's, but I just missed getting into Top Gun

I had the intensity of Maverick , the main character of the movie Top Gun (played by Tom Cruise) when I was a younger man. My walk was much like his when he walks away from Kelly McGuilles after a verbal exchange in the hanger. See the movie Beef, and I think you'll get to know a bit more of what I am all about.
