He is supposedly going to stream all of the games live.

Oh yeah, and I'm ready for some football! The 3rd preseason game is always the most telling since the starters play extended minutes, so I will be watching this one closely.

Well the 49ers line put plenty of pressure on Rodgers and last night they looked bas against the Bears offensive line. A lot of people mentione how Niko is slow, but I just think the defense is quarterbacked much better by Niko. People were where they were supposed to be. In this drive, they didn't have an idea where the Packers were going. Also helps that the Packers probably game-planned, since they didn't want to get embarassed again.

Our pass rush still sucks...how many years has this been a problem. Hell, I can't remember the last time we had one.

Do keep in mind Dumervile is also out right now.

Although the good news is that the run defense is looking better. Though still can see some issues.

DUmerville off the edge tonight has looked good. The play he got called for off sides he was off balance and still beat his guy and flushed Rodgers out of the pocket...and then on the sack he made that tackle look plain silly

Right, that is 1/4 of the DL.

That is actually a bad way to look at it since having a good pass rusher coming off the edge actually means you have to account for him and it opens up the other guys to make a play.

If he starts to dominate from the outside, it will open up a push from the inside or the opposite side from single team blocking. However, our guys have to be able to beat the single block in order for it to work.

Thoughts as I watch:

Marquand Manuel didn’t look too good originally, and I HATE that he tries to tackle around the neck and shoulders. He’s gonna get into trouble if there aren’t other guys around and he blows those neck tackles against bigger players, much like Bly was doing last year. Bly falling down trying to tackle guys in this game isn’t making me happy either.

Holes in the middle? Not early there weren’t. Webster started , which I found interesting. The OL surge on the QB sneak for the first was a little disheartening, but there weren’t gaping lanes for GB’s running attack. Not that they were running much…killing us with the pass is apparently far easier.

Apparently the Broncos watched tape of Houston humiliating them with the boot because Doom read the early one well. But the red-zone coverage on the next play was awful. Green Bay doesn’t want to be humiliated again this week.

I don’t like watching Jay’s jersey get dirty. Harris was not being helpful. Our protection was…eh on the first series. Jay was also overthrowing receivers when he wasn’t staring them down. He’s gotta work on that, both of those.

Our LBs are trying to do their job in filling gaps in the run game. I’m glad to see that, at least. We need to be CONSISTENT at that.

Good pressure on the first third down of GB’s 2nd drive but Dre Bly is developing Foxworth Disease on the next couple of plays. Tackling the guy after he gets the first down is not the goal, Dre.

Webster’s actually playing well. Maybe somebody told him his job is at stake.

I still don’t like our defensive leadership. There’s a difference between barking out signals or opposing calls (a la Singletary) and yelling in panic because we’re screwing up.

I like the run blitzing. And Doom and Thomas getting to the QB also makes me happy.
End 1st Quarter.

Cutler needs to stop throwing the ball by people. He’s killin’ me.
GO PEYTON HILLIS. THAT’s why I love you. Stiff arm, lower the shoulder, drive the legs and eke out a few more yards. Followed by a beautiful run from Hall.

Hall’s just a more aggressive runner than Selvin. Selvin runs more like Tatum IMO – or Jamaal Charles, if you prefer. We’ll see if Selvin can pick up his game, but I don’t like his body lean or his leg drive. He’s perfect for the draw play though.

I LOVE the running game we’re establishing in this game – we need to carry THIS into the regular season. And I’m sure the linemen love it too. It’s always better to run block than pass block. Better to hit someone than be hit. And it sets up the play-action beautifully.

Hall is terrific out of the backfield, run or pass. That swing pass where he planted and switched directions to get upfield when it looked for certain like he was gonna get forced out…it was a thing of beauty. Watching him and Selvin, Selvin looks like the backup, the guy to give the starter a breather. Hall looks like the guy who keeps running and wants it more. I worry about Hall’s health like I worry about Selvin’s, but I like Hall better as the starter.

Wish we’d give Hillis a chance at the short-yardage stuff instead of Pittman, but we might be trying to figure out if we need to keep Pittman. Hopefully Hillis has secured his spot already. And this long drive is Glory Era stuff.

Nate Jackson is gonna make this team. Sorry Dream. He’s gonna. His catches in traffic, especially in “pressure” situations, are gonna make them want him around as Scheffler’s insurance policy. Scheff better not sleep on Nate – Jackson could take his job next season if he can stay healthy.

DJ screwing up in coverage and then he AND Winborn both missing the tackle on the RB on the next play… Not auspicious. Winborn read the play really well the next time however. I also love DOOM’s pursuit of the play downfield. He really does have the kind of motor I like. I hope he can keep it for 16 games. I don’t like how he can disappear in games but he’s been around most of the plays in this one.

Bly needs to go back to tackling school. IMMEDIATELY. He and Manuel really worry me with their “right place but can’t make the play” tendencies.

Webster started well but he’s starting to whiff again. Why is having a LB in the right place and also able to make the play so much to ask? Please God, let Larsen be the answer. At least I know that kid can tackle…

This defense reminds me of our Greg Robinson Ds – not as much blitzing yet, but it’s the pre-season. He blitzed to stop the run, the pass…hell, he’d probably blitz to turn off the TV or make a sandwich. But it was all done with different fronts and different guys coming. I get the feeling we’re gonna have corner and safety and LB blitzes from all sides this year…and that’s a welcome change. I still don’t think the front 4 can do it alone consistently.

We’re gonna miss Marshall the first couple of games. His ability to break the game open and make it look stupidly easy is a rare gift. That juggling catch after his pushoff was great, and I love that he went back to Jay and said, “Let’s do that again, please” after the pass interference the first time.

I have to say, after Green Bay came out to make a statement I’m glad to see we responded very well to take the lead into halftime. The D stepped up, the offense started winning the war in the trenches…we might have been caught off guard by their intensity on the first drive, but after that we got our asses in gear. Nicely done against a very talented team. Bodes well. I still don’t like that we’re not getting enough pressure on Rodgers to force him to make mistakes, but if we’re deliberately playing vanilla to avoid giving away our blitz packages to our division rivals before it’s time then I can’t hold it against us.

And it’s not like last year where we were getting manhandled in the trenches and all of us were closing our eyes and praying that “the real season will be different.” For the most part we’ve played the game straight up with a few blitzes vs. the pass and run and a lot of soft zone. I’ll take it thus far.

End of the first half. Still waiting for the 2nd half on the replay on NFLN.

3rd Quarter:

Ramsey’s a sucker. He can’t tell they’re overloading his blindside? Polumbus didn’t have a chance to block all those guy by himself. It’s Ramsey’s job to recognize that potential problem and not get killed. Isn’t he a veteran?

I love seeing Barrett come on the run blitz and Woodyard destroy the pass in the flat. Great stuff there, and hopefully a harbinger of things to come. I want to see Green Bay’s 1st teamers vs our 2nd teamers. It should be a good test.

Paymah needs to start looking back and stop holding. He’s just gonna get used on the outside. I think they need to move him off the corner and into a safety position. He just seems to be slower this year and more out of position. Sadly with all our safety injuries, he may get his chance if he can stay on the roster.

Manuel potentially breaking his thumb is not good – he already can’t tackle.

Kou and Woodyard stopping them on 1st down and one was great, but stuffing that 2nd and goal leap was better – and was the same guys. They finally got the sneak over, but I like the LBs responding on those first 2 downs.

Pittman has good hands, but no extra gears. He’s in 2nd gear all the time, but his acceleration is gone. That’s okay, he’s not our starter. But we’d better remember it.

Our 2nd team OL is not impressing me with their grasp of either our pass-blocking OR run-blocking scheme. They’re not exactly one coordinated and well set unit. More like the football version of Amy Winehouse’s grill.

Barrett and Woodyard are the first ones downfield on kick coverage again, after Barrett chased down that long kickoff return before. Those guys REALLY don’t want to be put on the practice squad. They’re everywhere. Main roster for them – either ours or some other team’s. Barrett took a terrible angle to try to stop that run by Herron though.

Have I mentioned yet that I’m glad to see Green healthy and playing? I’d still cut him…but I’m glad for him personally that he’s okay.

Foxy JUMPED A PASS? Holy crap…is it a Blue Moon? Foxy taking a risk is like Webster making a text-book tackle. Get a picture, so you have proof.

Russell’s gonna make the team, too, at WR. He’s better than most of the FAs we brought in and he hangs on to the damn ball. BTW, we need to chop block #58 for jumping into Ramsey’s head with his shoulder. I may not want Ramsey as our backup but I don’t need some guy trying to late-hit him and break his jaw either.

Ramsey tries to throw another pick – knock that off.

And the 2nd team OL still can’t crack an inside hole for the running game. Everything’s getting bounced outside if it’s for positiv yardage.

End of the 3rd.

4th Quarter:

Cliff Russell finally dropped a pass, at the wrong time. He should have had that NO PROBLEM. For once that wasn’t Ramsey’s fault. Gotta make those if you want to make the team, Cliff.

If Martinez can’t hang on to punts he REALLY can’t make this team. It’s really the only time he’s gonna see the field.

Fire Keary Colbert. Immediately. I know it was a weak pass that hung him out to dry but he’s gotta catch it and make it. No more Ashlie Lelies needed on this team.

Glad to see Russell had a short memory and caught that ball. Is Ramsey’s arm getting weaker by the minute? Everything’s floating in. Russell is willing to block too, which I like.

Hey, Hillis in on 3rd and short – I like it. And he gets the 1st and won’t go down. He’s just a LOAD. I wish he was running more in this game. Maybe they’re saving his hammy and he’ll get some carries next week. I can hope… he’s not just a blocker and receiver.

Polumbus is doing a better job in pass protect than I thought he would, and that bought Ramsey time to get that swing pass to Pittman. Well done. I can see why they think he has promise. He might make it to the PS too.

Foxy’s trying to impress today. With Bly’s suckitude, he’s kinda succeeding. Maybe he was listening to us about his annoying habit of making plays only after first downs have been achieved by his opponent.

Chad Mustard has been getting housed in this game as a blocker. He’s always standing around while the pressure is past him. Hope Ramsey’s okay. I mean I like Hackney for the backup, but I’d hate to see a QB break his throwing arm.

Damn Woodyard’s fast. He almost ran down that run play to the one from the backside. Too bad his position is the one we don’t need filled at LB, with DJ having it locked down in style.

Paymah’s fired. Barrett had a play like that in the last game and he a) held contain and b) MADE THE PLAY. I don’t mind turning guys back inside as a general rule but at least getting a freakin’ hand on him would be nice. If Paymah had at least slowed him up maybe another Bronco could have gotten there.

I know a lot of people don’t like Hackney, but even though he’s short he has a way better arm than Ramsey. He can get a ball into a slot that Ramsey just can’t manage any more for whatever reason. I still like him better than Pat.

If Colbert goes up for that long pass instead of holding his hands out at crotch level it’s a 60 yard completion. I don’t want Colbert on the team. He’s too passive a WR. Not that we had any WRs make catches today other than Russell and Marshall, really. At least Royal was blocking well.

And that’s pretty much the ballgame. Lots to like from the first team O, and first team D held up – though that lack of pressure had best be fixed in the regular season.
