For his performance in the Broncos' 49-29 win against Kansas City on Sunday, Kyle Orton will be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 10.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Two days after tossing a career-high four touchdowns in the Broncos' 49-29 win against Kansas City, it was announced Kyle Orton will be honored as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 10. It is the second such honor Orton has won in his career and first this season.
Orton finished the game 22-of-34 for 296 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions as the Broncos posted their tied for second-highest point total in team history. He was not sacked for the first time this season en route to a 131.5 passer rating -- the second highest of his career.
The sixth-year quarterback's day began with one of the best opening quarters in team history. Orton became just the second signal-caller in team history to throw three first-quarter touchdown passes to help the Broncos score the game's first 35 points.
It was just the ninth time since 1991 that an NFL player accomplished the feat without throwing an interception. Orton threw for 146 yards in the quarter -- second-best in team history -- to help his team earn the home win against the division-leading Chiefs.
Orton is Denver's 46th AFC Offensive Player of the Week winner since the award was initiated by the NFL in 1984. He also earned the honor last season for his performance in a Week 5 overtime win against New England.
