Ok, since this has become a hot topic in recent weeks, and even more so in recent days, let's send a message.

As I posted in another thread, we all know that online petitions don't often do much, but on the other hand, if we get enough Broncos fans to show their support for the Orange jerseys, just maybe Mr. Bowlen and the Broncos' management will listen.

Take a couple minutes to go to http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com/ and add your name to the list of people who want to see Broncos in Orange jerseys once again. Not just once or twice a year, but as their primary jersey.

Andrew Mason has a good article up that talks about how 40% of the league has blue jerseys and nearly a third have navy, just like the Broncos. Let's get back to seeing a sea of orange.

Stop by and add your name at http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com/ and then share it with your friends and fellow Broncos fans.

I do like the orange jerseys, just not as much as the blue ones. I think the blue ones look sharp (especially when we wear the blue pants as well - my favorite uni) and seeing as how we won the Superbowl in the blue jerseys, they have a special meaning to me. It almost seemed that it wasn't until we got away from the "old" Broncos look that we were able to get over the hump (like Tampa Bay going away from their orange sherbet look and finally getting a decent uniform).

I wouldn't hate the Orange Jerseys as our primary, but I just prefer the blue ones. Sorry you guys, I just can't vote for it.

Considering it only last night, the initial response has been pretty good. Just about to top 350 signatures and there have been 81 signups in the last 60 minutes. Since about 6:00 central signatures have been coming in about 1 a minute (actually speeding up now).

If people not only sign, but pass it on to friends and fellow fans that rate should increase.

I wated to wait until it grew enough to be meaningful, but I'll put counters up pretty soon. Probably total and last 24 hours, maybe also last 4 hours or something like that if it keeps growing fast. Help people monitor the growth.

Thousands if not tens of thousands, but that's just pulled out of my butt, so I really don't know. My thought was not to even contact the Broncos until we had at least several thousand, then send them regular updates as it increases.

I did sign the petition on here, plus I just sent the following email to the Broncos (Krieger has the email address noted in his article).

Contents of my email:

When Mile High stadium was replaced by Invesco Field, it totally took away the "Mile High Magic", and identity from the Broncos' organization, as well as the Broncos' fans. Mile High was known as one of the top stadiums for "home field advantage". Has anyone within the Broncos' organization heard that in regards to Invesco Field? I think not.

Also, the club level sections, which caters to the "wine and cheese crowd", adds almost nothing in regards to Mile High Magic and identity.

Therefore, the Broncos' organization needs to do whatever possible to bring back the Broncos' magic and identity the organization and fans once had, and deserve. What better way for the Broncos' organization to show they are trying to get back the magic and identify, than designate the ORANGE jerseys as the team's traditional jerseys.

Also, there could be cosmetic changes to Invesco to bring back the magic and identify - more orange, such as paint, workers within the stadium wearing orange, etc.

Invesco Field will never be Mile High Stadium, but changes can be made within the organization to bring back the magic and identify within Invesco.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sometimes people hit enter after filling in one of the fieds, rather than tab, and it saves the form. I've cleaned up some of those, and will clean up more when I get a chance.

The 500+ from Eddie's post pushed us over the top, but I'm honestly pretty shocked that we even crossed 2,000 today. I didn't put a counter on the site last night, because I figured we would be lucky to get 300-600 the first day and that word would spread slowly and then hopefully grow.

While it's still a drop in the bucket of fans to the Broncos, I think getting 3,000 people the first day shows how passionate fans are and how they have been spreading the word.

I didn't even add the Facebook "like" thing until late afternoon and there are over 600 facebook likes, which will help spread the word to others. People have called and texted the Broncos sports talk stations, and some apparently have mentioned the site.

Word is spreading. It will be interesting to see tomorrow if the "online/forum" types all signed up today, and it kind of dies down, or if the word spreads more and the signups increase. I honestly have no clue which direction it will go.

Also, Andres Mason in responding to comments on his article about the uniforms was saying that while ultimately it is Bowlen/Broncos decision, that a cohesive movement like this among fans WILL be heard by the Broncos organization and make a difference. Great work, Tned. I guess this is an opportunistic time to do something like this. With all the anger about McDaniels, Bowlen may see this as a way of throwing the fanbase a bone. They should probably be two seperate issues but that doesnt mean Bowlen will see it that way.

Perhaps, but I also see the names are displayed by first name, last initial, and indicated state. I guess if no one can tell, all the better. Who is going to question that all the Mike J's from Colorado are the same guy? That would be silly.

Also the fact that its being talked about lends authenticity to the numbers.

But at the very bottom of the list there are two Erick Bs. Erick with a c-k is kind of an unusual spelling. Im guessing he's the same guy.

Oh well, I guess the buzz that its helping generate matters almost as much as the numbers.

Before presenting to the Broncos (at regular intervals), I will be cleaning the data. There have been a few instances where someone enter first, then last name, and then rather than hitting tab, hit enter, which saved the record. Then, after realizing that, they enter their name with email, and other info. Those are obvious when I am looking at the raw data. I have cleaned some up, but will do more in the coming days.

Then, after realizing that, they enter their name with email, and other info. Those are obvious when I am looking at the raw data. I have cleaned some up, but will do more in the coming days.

Cool. Are you able to put it in excel? If so, Im thinking a pivot table might come in handy.

A pivot table to accomplish what?

It would condense your data by names. You could put the names in one column and in a column out to the right, have the number of occurrences of that name. You could past the pivot table into another spreadsheet and sort by the times where your right column is more than 1. Thats how you can easily identify the real number of names.

Ill tell you what. If you can get the data into excel, email it to me, if you want, and Ill show you what Im talking about by emailing it back to you in pivot table form.

You could also filter in excel but I think a pivot table is better for this since it can tell you the number of occurrences.

I couldn't email you the data as I stated how/where the people's data would be used.

Anyway, what you describe is a brute force way to accomplish a simple DB task. That's a simple count/groupby/having operation in SQL.

As I said earlier, I have already weeded out some, and will do a better cleanup before presenting to Broncos.

You're entitled to your opinion. Us as fans can focus on whatever we want. It's the players jobs to focus on winning. We don't need a new coach. The talent he got rid of (minus Hillis) apparently wasn't all that great because what we currently have has been better.

Bring back the orange has to do with the fans wanting their team to change back to traditional orange. We will leave the focus on winning football games to Coach McD and the players.

You're not sure that we should leave the focus on winning to the professionals and not the fans? I don't think he's "on the hook" for anything. It's clear he and Pat have a great relationship and will more than likely be our coach again next season, regardless of how this season turns out.

Andrew Mason has a great article on this:

"ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Orange is the Broncos’ identity.

They’re not colloquially called “the Blue and Orange,” but “the Orange and Blue.” Charlie Goldberg’s still-celebrated unofficial holiday is not “Blue Sunday,” it’s “Orange Sunday.” Orange jerseys and T-shirts are more popular than the blue ones; just take a look around the Invesco Field stands on a warm, shirt-sleeve weather Sunday. When I grew up 2,000 miles from Denver and thought of the Broncos, I thought of John Elway first and orange second.

Further, orange is what makes the Broncos unique in the NFL. No other team has it as their primary color; the Dolphins, Bengals, Browns, Bears and Buccaneers all use it, but as a secondary color (with the Bucs, Bengals and Browns also brandishing orange third jerseys this year)."

Yeah, that was my thought too when I read Carol's post about the response she got. It sounded like an auto-response. The only thing that gave me pause was that it used her name in the response. That would make sense if she sent an email in a web form, but if it was an email she drafted it would either have to be a VERY smart system or there had to be some type of human interaction. Maybe someone a lot smarter than me knows how that would work.

Either way if people keep peppering the Broncos' inbox with emails they will have to take notice.

Keep it up!

That's good. He was promoting the Operation Orange Facebook page really hard yesterday on Twitter, which I think is great in terms of getting word out. However, I had emailed him about our site, and obviously Lindsay Jones knew about it, so you would think he did.

Anyway, I sent him this Tweet at 3:40 Denver time:

RT @BroncosForums: No love for the 5,000 signatures at http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com ?? RT @DaveKrieger: #Broncos campaign orange has a facebook page

and he replied with this ten minutes later:

RT @DaveKrieger: Here you go. RT @BroncosForums No love for the 5,000 signatures at http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com ?

But, then he went back to pumbing the other Facebook page. At the time, it only had a couple hundred "Likes", but after his promoting it, it jumped to about 500, which shows the power of some media coverage.

Krieger: Broncos fans rally to bring back the orange
By Dave Krieger
The Denver Post
Posted: 11/19/2010 01:00:00 AM MST

The raw numbers will be out-of-date by the time this column hits print, but as of Thursday, I had something approaching 1,000 copies of e-mails to the Broncos, and the Broncos reported having received 1,021. A petition at BringBackBroncosOrange.com (http://bringbackbroncosorange.com/) had several thousand signatures, and a Facebook page launched by a KOA listener was up and running under the name Operation Orange. Ellis said the Broncos are aware of them all.

"And I understand it," he said. "We've actually played two very good home games in the jersey. I think what it shows as much as anything is just how much passion there really is for this team in this region and frankly in other parts of the country where we have fans, and the world."

So, Joe, does this mean you and Pat have open minds about switching back to the orange?

"Absolutely," he said.

I've identified how some of those dupes were happening, especially when you would see 2 or 3 in a row.

Basically, people were signing the petition. Then, they would hit refresh to see if the totals changed (how many signups after them). When they hit refresh, it would give one of those dialog boxes that asks you if you want to resend the data. Most people hit yes, and therefore the code was interpreting that as another signature.

I have fixed this by adding dupe checking prior to inserting a new record into the DB. If all of the entered fields are the same as another record, then it simply skips the insert and displays the petition results.

So, we will still have some dupes caused other ways, intentional, someone realized they made a mistake, such as bad email, or submitted to soon, but these "refresh" dupes should be gone.

Then on the front page of the Sports section is "Bring back the Orange, a picture of Broncos in their Orange jerseys, with the caption below the picture "Broncos wore their traditional orange jerseys in Sunday's 49-29 rout of the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs at Invesco Field at Mile High", and then Krieger's article titled "Fans: Restore tradition"

John Elway is on theticket right now (as he is every Friday at 8:00) with Vic & Gary, and they are talking about the orange jerseys. John said that he did hear about the movement. He said he likes the orange, but is also torn on this, because of the home games won when the Broncos wore the blue when he was playing, and him being superstitious.

First of all, I want to give a big compliment for Tned for starting that web page. Its been a long time since there was something this positive going on with the Broncos. I have no belief in the front office and the fact that this has partly been a grass roots movement that has been greatly facilitated by Tned is awesome.

But also, I wanted to point out that the guys on ESPN may be more limited on what they can say where this is concerned. ESPN's programming may be more tightly controlled because it bounces around the league and isnt exclusively the Broncos and may not allow mention of this kind of promotion. Its worth a try but getting mentioned on ESPN might be more tricky than being mentioned on local radio.

One thing I would recommend is bringing this up with whoever can get this on the Broncos main web page. The fan enthusiasm behind this is something the team would likely embrace and gives them a way to put a more positive spin on a dismal season.

The other thing I would mention is if you want to reach a national audience, it might be better to tweet Michael Lombardi, Wyche, or LaCanfora with NFLN. NFLN is NFL specific and might have more latitude to mention this than ESPN, even if Shefter is at ESPN.

If you want Shclereth to put the message out, the best way to do it might be to send him a Tshirt where the website can be easily seen. When he's on Mike and Mike, he's often not in a suit and tie.

I agree there is a major possibility that they can not talk about it live, but I am sure that Adam Schefter could put it on his twitter site.

Also, if Shannon Sharpe has a twitter account, which more than likely he does, it might be worth it for someone to contact Shannon.

For anyone that hasn't signed the petition yet.

I forgot to post this earlier, but someone from MNF responded almost immediately. He said he would flag it for the MNF production crew (I assume that means forward it). He also said that his bet is that they are already following the story as part of their research for the game.

Its good that he's forwarding it but I really doubt someone was already on it.

If they talk about this in their production meetings, it could get traction. Between Tom Jackson playing for the Orange Crush and Berman waxing nostalgic all the time, this could see some air time.

Here's the links to both the petition and Facebook page, along with another Facebook page (Operation Orange), which Dave Krieger has been promoting on KOA, and put up by a KOA listener to help Dave's push to get the orange jerseys back

http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com - 8,000 fans have signed the petition calling for a return to orange jerseys. After signing it, be sure to click the Facebook "Like" button in the upper right hand corner of the site, which will help drive traffic to the petition.

After doing that, go to the Bring Back Broncos Orange Facebook page and click "Like". The more that do this the bigger the message is to the Broncos organization and the more likely the media will keep covering it.

Finally, there is another Facebook page, Operation Orange, which was started by a KOA listener. Dave Krieger has been a big force in getting this movement going, and one of the KOA listeners started this Facebook group. Go to this link and click "Like" on it as well.

T,

That guy that responded in the Andrew Mason article with the idea of clipboard sign ups could be huge. If we could be on the ground at Invesco at home games the last 3 games and just collect signatures....that number, in addition to the online petition, could be HUGEE!!

I've been posting at least twice a day on twitter for people to sign the petition who haven't already. We're up over 8,000! If we keep this going, we'll definitely be getting orange jerseys back for 2012!

Campaign Orange is a groundswell growing into a tidal wave. The Broncos know it. They are monitoring the storm carefully.

We, the people, may not be able to wipe out the national debt or get Bristol Palin off "Dancing with the Stars" by shooting our TVs, but we are well on our way to convincing the local football club to go back to its traditional, rightful orange home jersey.

The e-mail campaign launched here Tuesday filled the Broncos' inbox (and mine). Remarkably, the club is responding to every one.

"We've got messages from 43 states as well as the nation's capital," Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis said Thursday. "Also 12 countries, including Croatia, Cambodia, Tanzania and Afghanistan. All of them are expressing a desire for the team to make orange the primary jersey color."

The rest of the article from Dave Kreiger including more from Joe Ellis (bolded) here. (http://www.denverpost.com/krieger/ci_16653897) He also has the bringbackbroncosorange.com in there. :D

Yes, I was very pleased to read that article, because it sounded like Joe Ellis and the Broncos are listening to the fans on this subject.

It seems like its lost a little steam.

I would guess two things. First, I know from following traffic on this site, we get far less traffic on the weekend than during the week. I think a LOT of online time comes on the job. Second, short of bursts of activity from media and other promotion, it was bound to slow down, because the initial surge was from those frequenting the various Broncos related sites that linked to it.

The key now, IMO, will be staying power. It doesn't need to grow by 1500 a day, but it needs to keep growing, but more importantly it needs to keep being a topic on the sports talk shows, comments to articles, etc.

I would think only if it was done pregame, halftime, or post game, but I would think the best chance would be tomorrow night, when the Broncos are playing.

I agree where ESPN is concerned. I was thinking maybe that it might get mention on NFLN though.

Probably only if someone sent them an email, or they are aware of Krieger's article somehow.

Well, I hoped it would come after a win, with lots of folks checking out the post to read stories of the Broncos victory, but...

I am running an ad in the Denver Post sports section tomorrow morning. Mastershake made the ad and I'm using my 2nd place fantasy baseball earnings to pay for it.

Not sure I will run anymore after this one. Maybe if there is a big response from it, which I don't really expect. More than anything, I was hoping to keep it in the forefront, maybe get some people out of the forum/blog world to see it.

I just noticed this post Tned - yes, the ad is in the sports section today:

Left side

BRING BACK
THE ORANGE

next to that in middle - the same horse figure that is at the stadium in orange

Right side

Sign the Petition to Bring Back
The Orange Broncos Jerseys at:
www.BringBackBroncosOrange.com

It is a little funny, because your ad is there, but RIGHT below it is an ad from Grand Buick GMC - to me, it makes the appearance that the two ads are somewhat connected.

Also, there are 10 pages to the sports section, and your ad is on page 9

Here is the Grand Buick GMC ad, and yours in the same length, but directly on top of this one.
