Shooting victim to be guest Bronco cheerleader

KUSA - Eight-year-old Sierra Moore is a football fan. She'll get a perspective of the Broncos game Saturday night that few do.

Sierra is a special guest cheerleader for the preseason game at INVESCO Field at Mile High. Her family says the fact that she is strong enough to be there is a victory.

Sierra was shot June 20 as she and her 14-year-old aunt were walking back to a relative's house in the Curtis Park area.

Denver Police say Sierra was the innocent victim in a drive-by shooting. The bullet broke four or her ribs and tore her lung. She lost a dangerous amount of blood. Her aunt Jessica Gay helped save her life by carrying her to a nearby restaurant to get help. She also gave Sierra CPR until help arrived.

While Sierra was in the Intensive Care Unit at Denver Health Medical Center her family was contacted and invited to have Sierra be part of the Denver Broncos Cheerleading Squad for the day.

At that time her mom, Wynisha Jones, said they didn't even know if Sierra would survive.

She said, "It was day to day at that point. We were so worried that we had lost her."

The Broncos Cheerleader Dream Package was given to Sierra by Chamberlin Edmonds, a company that won the package in a live auction at the Denver Health Foundation's annual gala in April. Chamberlin Edmonds donated the package back to the hospital for a deserving patient.

Nearly eight weeks after the shooting, Sierra is out of her wheelchair and getting much stronger. She is an aspiring cheerleader and loves the Broncos Cheerleaders. Her dad, Michael A. Moore Sr., says she is thrilled to be part of the cheerleading squad for the game.

Sierra will join the cheerleaders for their pre-game rehearsal, followed by a hair and make-up session with the cheerleaders, dinner with the cheerleaders (complete with all of the cheerleaders personally autographing a calendar and poster for Sierra) and watching the Broncos' first game of the season.

He said, "It is a special day for her. She is so excited. We are just happy she is healthy enough to be here."

The rain isn't even discouraging the family. Many of them will be in the stands cheering on Sierra.

I mostly keep it under wraps. Approaching kickoffs bring it out in me, multiplied if the opponent is one of a select few teams. The Cowboys, Steelers, Ravens and Raiders make me near homicidal, Yard. I watch those games by myself in the basement. This is preseason, so not so intense, but just the sight of that Blue Cowboys star pisses me off.

He hasn't changed since college. He's the same player, same type of person. I have a personal grudge against Moss since his Marshall days. Moss damn near single-handedly smashed my college team in the national championship, in a season he was academically ineligible to play. Everyone knew it, but no one would stop it. Marshall was later retroactively stripped of the title, so no one won that year. It is blind hatred, I'll admit that. But he sucks and I would bet you good money that if he was traded to the Dolphins we'd see a repeat of his performance in Oakland. He plays great when he's on a winning team and shitty when he's not.

I've always loved Andre Hall's balance. I actually liked him A LOT in college - my concern with both him and Young is durability, but as backs they sure are talented enough to run the ball for us.
