Broncos promote LB Briggs to active roster
By Lindsay Jones
The Broncos have signed linebacker Diyral Briggs to the active roster, filling the roster spot left open when the team placed wide receiver Matt Willis on the injured reserve list.
The move leaves the Broncos with only five receivers on the 53-man roster. The team could certainly make more moves before Sunday’s game against Oakland depending on injuries. Slot receiver Eddie Royal left last week’s game against the Jets with a groin injury. The team has one receiver, Britt Davis, on the practice squad.
Briggs is a second-year player who was an undrafted rookie in 2009. He played four games for the 49ers last year. He made the 49ers’ active roster after the preseason but was released after playing in San Francisco’s Week 1 loss to Seattle. He has been on the Broncos practice squad since.
As of Tuesday afternoon, safety Kyle McCarthy and outside linebacker Kevin Alexander remained on the Broncos’ 53-man roster. Both were promoted from the practice squad on Saturday and played on special teams against the Jets, helping replace Darcel McBath and Wesley Woodyard, who were both out with injuries.
The Broncos have three vacant spots on the practice squad to fill this week.
