Broncos promote LB Briggs to active roster
By Lindsay Jones

The Broncos have signed linebacker Diyral Briggs to the active roster, filling the roster spot left open when the team placed wide receiver Matt Willis on the injured reserve list.

The move leaves the Broncos with only five receivers on the 53-man roster. The team could certainly make more moves before Sunday’s game against Oakland depending on injuries. Slot receiver Eddie Royal left last week’s game against the Jets with a groin injury. The team has one receiver, Britt Davis, on the practice squad.

Briggs is a second-year player who was an undrafted rookie in 2009. He played four games for the 49ers last year. He made the 49ers’ active roster after the preseason but was released after playing in San Francisco’s Week 1 loss to Seattle. He has been on the Broncos practice squad since.

As of Tuesday afternoon, safety Kyle McCarthy and outside linebacker Kevin Alexander remained on the Broncos’ 53-man roster. Both were promoted from the practice squad on Saturday and played on special teams against the Jets, helping replace Darcel McBath and Wesley Woodyard, who were both out with injuries.

The Broncos have three vacant spots on the practice squad to fill this week.

I'd like to see some of the new players this season step up and get some sack's....

SF has a pretty deep LB corps; now that Diyral Briggs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWOJPv8aOm4) has been in the system a bit maybe we can see a reflection of that depth from this corp.

Briggs could very well indeed be a diamond in the rough...

This guy understands the blessing of coming from the fringe to not only graduating, and being in the NFL but being part of 53.

I think Briggs is a guy who understands the reality of what it takes to make a dream come true, and if he does make it as a starter it will truly be his true grit that gets him there.

Looking forward to watching how this story unfolds...

The fact he even made the 53 man roster of the 49ers is a testament in itself, but when you add the fact that as a UDFA he got calls from the Jets, Titans, and Steelers well enough said...

Taking Briggs place on the practice squad?

Both fumbles (http://wyoming.scout.com/2/688590.html) were forced by defensive end Mitch Unrein. He lays a hit on Marcus Jackson here, popping the ball out of the quarterback’s hands.

Eaton High School's very own...

DE Mitch Unrein (http://www.greeleytribune.com/article/20100422/SPORTS/100429918)

Mitch Unrein has come a long way since playing football as a child in his backyard with friends and family.

He was a first-team All-State player in high school at Eaton before graduating in 2005. He walked on at the University of Wyoming, becoming a top player and three-time All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention for the Cowboys during the last four years.

Now, Unrein, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive end, looks to take the next step of his football career...

Physically, Unrein has made significant strides since walking on at Wyoming in 2005 and redshirting his first year.

“I pretty much think it's night and day,” Unrein said. “When I walked on to Wyoming, I was 220 pounds. Now I'm 290 pounds. I've gotten faster or at least stayed the same (speed) since I was 220 pounds.”

Not all of his improvement has come on the physical end. Unrein said he has refined his technique and gained a much greater understanding of the game, thanks in large part to his work with Cowboys defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery.

“I probably wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for him,” Unrein said. “I've learned so much about the game. ... This last year has been the most I've learned in my college career.”
