View Full Version : Whats that sound you hear??? Duck Hunting season has begun in College football!

It sounds like a quack. Ducks move into #1 spot in Northman's college football rankings.

Lets face it, these last two weeks have really shook up the masses but this past weekend did the most damage for good and bad. First, OSU goes to Madison and is just out muscled for a good portion of the game. I think Broncophan and i can agree that passing isnt one of Pryor's greatest weapons (which he pointed out a few weeks back) and that became very evident last night.

Something else i learned is that im very impressed thus far with Auburn and Michigan St. I think Michigan St. can be a true sleeper here but dont quote me. lol

Florida and Michigan?

Yea, pretenders. And i generally like the Gators but Meyer is finding out that his shit indeed stinks especially without Tebag.

Biggest surprises? Nevada and South Carolina. WOW, way to really hurt yourselves here. Especially South Carolina who had a 28-10 lead late only to watch Kentucky steal one from them. I think Spurrier just coughed up a hairball on that chokejob.

Ahhh, but what about the good?

VaTech who dropped their first 2 games of the season (one to James Madison no less) yet have obliterated their foes since then and have managed to steal the last spot in my rankings. Will it last? I have no idea but they are playing far better than they were so kudos to them and Beamer for not giving up. Same goes to the Longhorns. Going into Nebraska is no easy task for any team but Gilbert did his best Vince Young impression and got the job done to re-enter the rankings for me.

Still 10 unbeatens with the always controversial Boise St. Broncos. Still lingering around the 6-7 spot for me in my rankings as im just still not sold on them quite yet. I really want to like that team and their wins over subpar teams are pretty and dominating but the schedule is just too hard to overlook. Word is before this weekend that BCS rankings were (and still could) put Boise St. in the driver's seat but i just dont feel they deserve it right now. I still want a playoff system in the long run but for now this is what we got. I will be looking forward to how it shakes out tonight for the BCS.

According to the ESPN bottom line, they have Auburn predicted to be bumped up to the #1 spot!! And I don't see them losing the next 3 games (Ole Miss, Chatanooga, Georgia). Alabama game is a toss up!!

Oregon has to get past USC next Sat and I believe they'll beat Oregon State the last game!! So if they beat the Trojans, pretty much smooth sailing from there!!!

It could! Out of the top 3 (Auburn, Oregon, and Boise St), I believe Oregon has the toughest schedule left. Auburn has to get past Alabama and Boise has to get past Nevada, JMO!! I looked at who Oregon has left.....USC and I overlooked Arizona.

It'll be an interesting and exciting next 6 weeks for college football.....that's for sure!!

It wouldnt hurt my feelings if they did but teams are doing the smart thing and blowing out teams they should. And Oregon is one of them so its hard for me to bump Auburn up that high when Oregon was already sitting at #2. I feel bad that i have to keep putting Boise around the 5 spot but that schedule is just hard to overlook. I have a feeling TCU might have the same problem but i have not looked at their schedule yet.

I think you did a good job with your rankings and I don't agree with Auburn jumping Oregon either. I guess the whoopin they put on Arkansas is what did it!! You wouldn't think Auburn would have to worry about Ole Miss but with the parity this year, you never know!! And Oregon has USC and if they beat them by 30+, I don't see how Oregon doesn't jump to #1!! I guess we'll find out tonight how the computers chose!!

So, how is it that Oklahoma is ranked higher than Nebraska when Nebraska crushed Missouri this week and Oklahoma lost to Missouri the week before? Since all three have one loss (and one conference loss), shouldn't Nebraska's ranking be above the other two?

Depends on your perspective. A lot of my rankings goes by where they were in the rankings the previous week and how much of an impact their wins were that week. Also, i look at where those losses took place and too whom. OU lost to a ranked opponent and while Texas was ranked at one time they are not nearly has impressive as Mizzou over OU. Sure, Nebraska came out and beat Mizzou this week but it was on their own turf so that plays a part in my rankings as well. Im not saying my line of thinking is perfect or on the money but i try and take a lot of different things into where i place teams. MD probably doesnt even deserve being ranked but outside of some of the other teams i looked at they were more impressive to me at this point. But as you know, things change every week.

No doubt when the polls come out they'll have OU ahead of Nebraska too. Just doesn't seem logical to me. Yes, a seven-point home loss to Texas (the Longhorns' only win in their last five games) looks worse and worse as time goes by but it is just one stumble. They don't get to play OU (except in a likely conference championship matchup) but I'd put them ahead of the Sooners just in the eyeball test.

With three of the undefeateds having bye weeks, little was settled this week. Next week will bring a host of rivalry games, including Auburn-Alabama which ought to be the best chance for a BCS shakeup. Boise St. plays Nevada in a game that will be as key to BSU's chances and the TCU-Utah game was for TCU (although the Utes are doing everything in their power to diminish that accomplishment).

Oregon St. pulled off an impressive upset of USC ro show they still have some life but I don't think they'll be too much of a problem for the Ducks. I'm rooting for Wisconsin to finish with the Rose Bowl bid and I don't really care who winds up with the Big XII bid but it seems like this may be OSU's year, although they still have to win the Bedlam game with rival Oklahoma.

Yea, i agree that the Boise/Nevada game and the Auburn/Bama game will settle some things once and for all. For most of the year ive had TCU at #3 but because Boise continues to absolutely crush their opponents while TCU has been kind of lazy ive bumped Boise to the #3 position with a very good chance to make either #1 or #2 depending on the outcomes of those games. I dont really see Oregon losing at any point but it could happen.

I would love to see a Boise St/Nevada game like in 07, but I believe Boise St blows Nevada out of the water.

Auburn's gonna beat Bama, though I'd like to see a shake up in the BCS! Then again I'm bias so I'd like to see the SEC win the NCG again!!

Wisconsin proved yesterday to be the best one loss team and Stanford coming in second! Reading at Tigerforums, Tiger fans are up in arms that Michigan St rallied against Purdue but LSU survives against Ole Miss. Pretty bias words from ESPN, but it is what it is and LSU should of blowout Ole Miss though Mich St survived against Purdue!! But LSU's lack of defense against a mediocre Ole Miss team hurt team against the other top one loss teams! I was happy for the win, but extremely disappointed in LSU's defense and ST and I blame Miles and the coaches for being unprepared! They better have a big game against Arkansas but that's alot to ask being the game is in Fayetteville and it will be no surprise to see the Hogs give the Tigers their second loss!!

Attaboy to the Aggies!!
