The Broncos (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/broncos/) are — and will remain — primarily a 3-4 defense (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/3-4-defense/), but the team is experimenting with a four-man front.
In the first quarter of Sunday night’s game against the Steelers, the team showed a 4-3 look with its starters, against Pittsburgh’s first team. The four down linemen were Robert Ayers (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/robert-ayers/) at right end, Justin Bannan (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/justin-bannan/) and Jamal Williams (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/jamal-williams/) at tackle, and Ryan McBean (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/ryan-mcbean/) at right end. The three linebackers were Mario Haggan (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/mario-haggan/), D.J. Williams (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/dj-williams/) and Baraka Atkins.
The Steelers rushed for four yards on that play.
On the second-down snap, the Broncos (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/tag/broncos/) were back into their normal 3-4 alignment.
