John Elway has returned to his radio gig. Yeah, that's The Ticket.

The former Broncos quarterback and forever Hall of Famer will join Vic Lombardi and Gary Miller on their sports radio show at 8 a.m. each Friday morning on The Ticket (87.7 FM). The all-sports radio station and Elway agreed Monday on a two-year contract.

Elway was a regular contributor last football season on a Monday-morning show hosted by the KCNC-Channel 4 sports duo on a different radio station. Why did Elway decide to cross again to the dark side and join the electronic media?

"I enjoy talking to Vic and Gary," Elway said. "And it's always nice to talk about the Broncos. It helps keep me in touch with the team. Hopefully, I can provide a different perspective."

Since he brought it up, Elway's thoughts on the 2010 Broncos? He has been out of town and didn't watch the Broncos' two preseason games, but he reads the paper and Internet, has seen the highlights, talked to people, kept up.

He reiterated his support for quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow.

"I'm happy for Kyle that he got an extension," Elway said. "He's been playing well, and he is a very good quarterback, so he deserves it. Plus, at the same time, there's not that pressure to play Tebow right away."

As for Tebow, Elway says enough already, concerning the scrutiny of the rookie's long and low throwing delivery.

"There's just so many positives about this guy, and yet all the focus seems to be one negative," Elway said. "He didn't get drafted in the first round because of his release. He was drafted in the first round because he has so many intangibles that you can't coach."

One point Elway made on his radio show at the end of last season was that he thought Orton needed to use his legs more. Not to run upfield, but to move around in the pocket.

One of the most pleasant surprises of the preseason has been the visible confidence with which Orton has been playing. Often a stationary, paint-by-numbers type of quarterback last year, Orton has brought a freelance aspect to his game this year. He has shown greater mobility in the pocket, avoiding pass rushers, and buying more time to throw.

"A lot of that has to do with how comfortable he is with the offense now that he's had a year of playing in it," Elway said. "He knows where everybody is, and that allows him to react more, become more instinctive to the pass rush in the pocket. When you're still worrying about what you're supposed to do, your mind is back there going, step 1-2-3. You don't feel the pass rush as well because you're too focused on where you're supposed to throw.

"Kyle is never going to be a scrambler, but he's a good enough athlete where he can slide and move around in the pocket, which is good because sometimes it can cause the defense to break down on a play. When you know where your receivers are going to be downfield, you know the defensive coverage you're looking at, you play a little freer and you're more instinctive."

When asked about what he thought of Brady Quinn's preseason play, Elway replied "Who?"
