Welcome to the 2010 edition! This is the forum's official fantasy league, and is open to all members-- but we are going to continue with the minimum of 500 posts as a baseline requirement for entry. I will consider exceptions if you've been here for a while and/or are active on a regular basis, but I'm really looking to restrict membership to BF regulars, as that is, after all, the point of the official Forums League. As we did last year, we'll break the league into smaller conferences that actually function as independent leagues (each conference will have it's own draft, pool of players, etc), and the overall league champion will be the conference winner that scores the most points in the championship game in week sixteen. Everyone who "registers" in this thread is welcome to play as long as we have even numbers to make the conferences, but it's going to be on a first-come first serve basis whether you played last year or not, so if you want to play you should let me know now.

I'm going to make Sep. 1st the tentative registration deadline, so if you want in now's the time to sign up! Once we get past, say, twenty entrants I will keep a running tally and update how many guaranteed spots are left-- we can accomodate as many as want to play, as long as we have even numbers that can easily be broken into multiple conferences (20, 24 30 etc). Reidman has graciously agreed to act as Commish of the second conference again this year.

EDIT: REGISTRATION CLOSED

Once we've got a final list, i'll draw names from a hat to determine who'll be in which conference, and then we'll send out invites and get everything set up. Since each conference will have its own draft, I won't be able to give you draft dates until we know who's in which group. Each conference will follow the exact same rules, which will be as follows (same rules as last year, for those who participated):

This is a standard head-to-head style league-- when I know the size of each conference, I'll let you know how many teams will make the playoffs. Week 16 will be the championship. We'll do a live, online draft-- 18 rounds, snaking each round. We'll be using fleaflicker again this year.

So same people in each division or are we starting completely over this year?
(randomly splitting everyone into 2 different leagues)

Also, I kinda set a draft date for Aug 28th since I wasn't really sure what
was happening yet...I noticed your deadline for sign-up is Sept 1st...oops!

I can change the draft date easily enough...

I've barely had time to even watch football related news so I am getting a very late start on the season...

yea, i'm super late on this-- my fault. . .

we are starting completely over, i want to do it that way each year. . . that way you only get players who are CURRENTLY interested,, as opposed to trying to maintain exact membership from year to year. . . prevents us from having non-members in the official forum league, and allows easy expansion/contraction of the conferences to reflect overall membership, etc etc. . .

i cleared out the membership of my league a while ago, you can go ahead and do the same any time. . .

is changing the draft date okay with you? i can move the registration deadline up a few days if not, but i'd like to keep it open long enough to at least get 20-24 members. . . if we reach one of those numbers early we can just close it at that point. . .

let me know if any of that doesn't work for you, and we'll figure something out. . .

dogfish
08-23-2010, 11:41 PM
Is this to take place of Reidman's league or is this in addition to it?

reidman's league from last year was the western conference of this league. . . a couple years back i decided to split the official forum league this way, so that more people could play. . .

it's really just a fiction, but determining an overall champ this way does make it twice as competitive-- particualrly because you can easily end up facing a team that has one or two of the same best players you do. . .

anyway. . . once we have the total membership set for the year, i'll pick names from a hat to see who plays in which conference. . . but whether you play in reid's conference again this year or mine, the rules and rosters will be identical to what you played with last year. . .

make sense?

Reidman
08-24-2010, 06:41 AM
No problem dog. I'll change the draft date to match that of your league, makes it more standardized that way anyway...

I Will go ahead and wipe last year's rosters clean also.:salute:

No different than losing starters for the season in week two. At least you have the waiver wire to use as your friend once the season fires up. Last year I picked Roddy White up off of waivers and he did great for me, as did Kevin Boss and the Jets defense...

Who the hell puts roddy white and the jets D on waivers?

SR
08-30-2010, 06:00 AM
I think I may have drafted the Jets D, but I don't remember. I definitely picked up Roddy White off waivers though. It was around week four or five. My team sucked. My only good players were Big Ben, Andre Johnson, Matt Forte and Ryan Grant (who both had shitty years), and the Jets D. The rest of my team blew. I think I finished second or third from the bottom in a 12 team league. I blame it on the internet though. I was TDY to Ft Benning, GA, and my wifi wasn't working right so I couldn't download the java script I needed for the draft room and I never ranked my players...so I drafted a bunch of crap.

4.30 = 12.30a.m our time which would be just about manageable for the three over ponders in the Eastern Conference too.

Definitely better than the 2.am draft I got up for in my other league!

A 10 team draft shouldn't take more than an hour as long as the allotted time per pick is set to a reasonable amount, like 1:30.

SR, an 8pm draft time is a little late, especially since I wouldn't make it and that kind of goes against the commish bylaws lol. Anyway I was thinking more along the lines of a 3PM draft my time (PST). I could stretch it to 4 but that would be cutting it close for me getting to work.

For not being able to participate in the live draft, I am definitely happy with who I picked up. My QBs are a question mark with Schaub and Cutler. My WRs could either do really well or not well at all, depending. I'm pretty stacked at RB. TE I'm good. K is meh...not usually gonna win or lose a game because of a kicker. Defense is eh. But what can I say...I wasn't there so I can't complain. I'm glad I drafted Ryan Matthews though. He's my sleeper pick.

He is, but I would rather have had a few different guys. I'll probably hang on to Cutler as well. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my roster. Last year, I didn't get shit out of the draft and ended up either second or third from last in the 12 team league. IMO, my roster is pretty competitive. A lot of the teams are fairly stacked, which is good and which is why I am glad we capped the leagues at 10 teams. Should be pretty competitive.

Dog, Reid?

i'm not finding an in-writing description, but i believe it's set in inverse order after the draft, and you're dropped to lowest waiver priority/end of the list every time you claim someone off waivers. . .

for example, jaws made the last waiver claimin our league, and she's now listed as tenth waiver priority (it's listed under the stats column on the league's home page). . . gnomey hasn't made any waiver claims, and right now she has top priority. . .

That seems right.
I had 1st priority after the draft due to drafting 10th.
Now after picking up a couple of players on waivers I've dropped to 10th waiver priority.

dogfish

also, FTR. . . i'm in a fleaflicker league that i don't commish, and i see that the waiver priority was set by inverse league rank (aka, last place + 1st waiver priority). . .and then after the beginning of the week, making a successful claim drops you to the bottom of the list. . . i'm not positive, but IIRC it re-sets every week. . .

i am NOT a fan of that, in the least! i understand that the idea is to create more parity, but IMO it unfairly penalizes those who drafted good teams by effectively preventing them from EVER making any worthwhile waiver wire additions. . . as far as i'm concerned, players who are doing well still deserve some chance to make upgrades to their rosters through savvy waiver wire management. . .

Anyone else been absolutely killed in a fantasy game this season by just ONE of their opponent's players scoring 40-50 points by themselves?

I have, and it's happened 3 weeks running ... :rain:

Here's Pippi's Panthers' Nemesis Hall of Infamy 2010:

Week 1: A. Foster RB HOU ..... 55.8 (Dogfish)
Week 2: J. Best RB DET ....... 50.2 (Softskull)
Week 3: A. Peterson RB MIN ... 40 (MancBronc)

Not criticising at all the way the scoring's been set up in the league, 'cos it's good fun - well done, Commish :salute: - the FF scoring makes it interesting to follow games even when losing. In fact, yesterday I was paying more attention to the FF scores than to the NFL scores themselves. And even tho' I'm a rookie on an L-streak the FF experience is really enjoyable so far.

It just sucks to be killed by ONE player EVERY week! :uh: :hurt:
