Well I had an argument with JR in another thread and he thinks he might not be on the first ballot. I'll let him present his argument in here though.

Should be a first ballot.

Of course, knowing the HOF's disdain for anything related to the Denver Broncos will keep me from putting money on it.

Well, he did play on the east coast for a few years. So, maybe a few of the HOF voters will remember his name.

Sadly being on the Ravens roster during their SuperBowl win will have more to do with getting him enshrined than this amazing career in Denver.

If he's not a first ballot selection...then it's only obvious why Gradishar isn't in.

Sharpe owned every TE record there was when he retired....and happens to wear three superbowl rings. If that isn't impressive enough, one could argue that two of those rings would have been lost if not for him. That game against the Steelers to get us to the Superbowl against Greenbay was a must...and his play for the Ravens in the playoffs leading to their championship was essential!

I just had a vision of him talking trash when accepting his award, calling out the HOF for not putting more Broncos in.

agreed. . . i think he'll get in on the first ballot, but i'm not going to be shocked if he doesn't. . . the hall has never been kind to broncos players, and there are an awful lot of strong candidates coming down the pipeline right now. . .

the predominance of voters being east of the Mississippi being what it is means he is automatically excluded as a Bronco only..

I think he was a great Big WR/Hback that morphed into a TE. He held most all of the TE records before retiring, but many are falling to TG and Gates..and many more will be gone before he is eligible..

IMO his only chance of getting in first ballot is his time ON TV a coupled with his year out in Baltimore.. Just being a DEN TE would have never gotten him by itself..

Just as TD was snubbed last year.. The same will apply when it is Sharpe's time..

Sharpe retired as the all-time leader among TEs in receptions (815), TD catches (62) and receiving yards (10,060).

He's one of five to have a 50-catch season 11 times (Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison, Andre Reed and Jerry Rice).

An eight-time Pro Bowler and four-time all pro, he had 19 career games with at least 100 yards receiving.

Sharpe held Denver's all-time franchise record for receptions when he retired, but Rod Smith later surpassed him.

He is a member of the NFL's 1990s All-Decade Team.

Notable stats: A three-time Super Bowl winner with Denver ('97, '98) and Baltimore ('00), he established the single-game mark for most receiving yards by a TE with 214, set in 2002.

because he is a Bronco. 6 Super Bowls, 2 wins, 8 AFC Championship games, one of the best win loss records in the last 30 years = Denver Broncos. In those glorious years (and even before 1977), we have accomplished all this with one HOF. We must have done it with smoke and mirrors. If everyone that has a vote forgets that Sharpe was a Bronco and remember only the few years as a Raven, then he is in first ballot.

Yeah, but the thing is, Sharpe is WAY more qualified to make the HoF than any other Broncos snub I can think of. What other Bronco was unarguably the best player of their era at their position and set some of the biggest records at their position? The only people who you could even argue getting in over him this year are Bruce Smith, Rod Woodson, Derrick Thomas, and Chris Carter. And since they can elect up to 5 modern-day candidates anyway, I'm not too worried.

Qualified doesnt mean squat to the HOF voting. Trust me, they will find a way to snub Shannon at least the first time.

I think Broncos fans are pessimistic on HOF voting for good reason but in the case of Sharpe, he has pretty much everything on the resume that one could expect for a 1st ballot HOFer. The only knock you hear is that he was a better receiver than blocker but with Denver's running game in 1997-1998 and the Ravens running game in 2000, how can you really say his blocking was THAT bad.

I think you're just being paranoid. I will guarantee you no one has forgotten Shannon Sharpe, especially with the TV career he has. Another thing that helps is that there are no big Cowboys or Steelers becoming eligible this year. While there is no such thing as a sure thing, I would say it's as close to being a lock as possible that Sharpe gets in on the first ballot.

I really think they'll get him in. Manny of the voters have begun to take heat for so few Broncos being in the hall. So much so that Dr. Z has paid lip service to getting TD in. I personally think he only said this because he knew he wouldn't get in anyway, but Sharpe is going in first ballot.

HOF Meeting:

"Couple of years with the Broncos. Set some records or something."

"Yeah, but it's the Broncos."

"That's true."

"Well, it says here he also played a bit for the Ravens--"

"He's in!"

Yeah, he turncoated on Denver and beat the Broncos with that crazy ass tipped ball catch and run TD, so I am sure he scored some points with the haters.

I do not believe that anyone outside Al davis hates DEN..

It is just they flat do not see them enough.. If you look at the East coast teams or the teams that they and that is pretty much 26 of them outside the east coast teams are
DEN
SEA
OAK
SFO
SAN
PHX

the rest are central or eastern time zone teams.. since they play in the east more voters from those OTHER NFL cities see them almost every week.. IN most cases they play against the teams most of these writers cover..

Unless DEN is playing the east division of both conferences they may be seen as a little as every 12 years I think it is in their stadium.. The MNF and game of the week things help..

But IF the writers from NE are voting are they going to cast their ballot for some one they see maybe 1 time a year or someone from their own division that they may see as many as 3 times a year paying the team they cover plus any inter division games they may watch..

Folks they all have their own agenda and that is to get their teams players in if possible or to make their players look as good as possible be voting in their rivals in.. Since 26 of those teams are far east of us DEN is sucking hid tit.

Dude I was cracking up when I first saw that. Sharpe likes to talk and just makes me laugh.

He should get into the HOF the first year easily and if he doesn't then the HOF voters REALLY have no clue about football.
