Broncos signed sixth-round LB Spencer Larsen to a four-year contract.

Larsen received a signing bonus of $97,500. The team had thoughts of trying Larsen out as a fullback in early practices, but he returned to linebacker last month. He will back up Niko Koutouvides and Nate Webster at middle linebacker.

Broncos signed fifth-round DT Carlton Powell to a four-year contract.

Powell received a signing bonus slightly north of $180,000.

Broncos signed fifth-round RB Ryan Torain to a four-year contract.

Torain received a signing bonus just under $200,000. Torain is definitely a player to watch this summer, especially for dynasty leaguers. Head coach Mike Shannahan praised Torain's "first round ability" after drafting him in April, and it's not hard to picture a scenario where he receives an opportunity at some point this season.

Exactly. Now the rest of the FB's will get more reps and Larsen can focus on being the physical beast that he is at MLB. We need more Mormon's on this team. :D

Yet another reason to build through the draft and supplement with free agency. We'll have these guys for 4 years, and all but Clady and possibly Royal will be cheaper than free agents playing the same position. Not that they will all necessarily work out, but if any of them turn out to be decent players, it helps our cap situation immensely.

I tend to think the Colts are the best example in the NFL. When 98% of your team is drafted by you and your winning consistantly. its a little luck but its definitly the way to go. Draft draft draft and draft some more.

The Broncos ultimately signed seventh-round S Josh Barrett to a four-year, $1.76 million contract.

The deal included a $56,300 signing bonus. Barrett's deal was originally reported as being for three years, but on the four-year pact he'll have a playing time escalator available in the final season.

Indianapolis' draft picks work out so well because they get players who fit their scheme and buy into their system. Until recently, Denver hasn't been doing a very good job about that. It's why Indianapolis can play late-round and undrafted free agents all over their defense and still win ball games, because they've played in similar systems and know what's expected of them.

I had some highlights of him from a website but i forgot the name of it. Seems like you cant find any ASU player highlights though. I had to dig up Ryan Torain highlights from highschool just to get a feel for what type of back he was. Even though he had a great year 2 years ago.

On Wednesday the Broncos signed fullback Peyton Hillis, whom they selected in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft from the University of Arkansas. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hillis totaled 2,624 career all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns as a three-year starter at Arkansas.

The Broncos have now signed five out of nine draft picks.

Hillis Inked

Peyton Hillis is the fifth rookie from the 2008 draft to sign
By Jake Grilley

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-- Another day closer to training camp and another member of the Broncos 2008 draft class has signed with the team.

Fullback Peyton Hillis, a seventh-round choice out of the University of Arkansas reached an agreement with the team on Thursday. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hillis joins Ryan Torain, Carlton Powell and Spencer Larsen, who all signed last week and Josh Barrett to agreed to terms in June.

Hillis totaled 2,624 career all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns as a three-year starter at the University of Arkansas, where he also saw time as a halfback, wide receiver and special-teams returner.

The Razorbacks running game flourished under Hillis' blocking. Running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones each posted 1,000-yard rushing campaigns in 2006 and 2007.

He led Arkansas in both receptions with 49 and receiving yards with 537 as a senior in 2007, setting school single-season records for running backs in those categories. Hillis finished his career at Arkansas tied for seventh in school history with 118 receptions, tied for ninth with 11 touchdown receptions and 15th in receiving yards with 1,195, totals that all marked school records for running backs.

With the addition of Hillis, Denver has signed five out of its nine draft picks.

DENVER (AP) ― The Denver Broncos agreed to a deal with cornerback Jack Williams on Tuesday, signed all but two of their nine 2008 draft picks.

The only players left to be signed from the draft class are first-round selection Ryan Clady and second-round pick Eddie Royal. Clady is penciled in as the Broncos' starting left tackle and Royal will be relied on for his special teams prowess.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Williams was taken in the fourth round, the 119th overall pick, out of Kent State. Terms of the deal weren't released.

Williams had 13 interceptions, seven fumble recoveries and 245 tackles in 44 career games for the Golden Flashes.

Denver signed fourth-round pick Kory Lichtensteiger on Monday. The Bowling Green State product will challenge for the starting center spot.

The Broncos begin training camp on Friday.

It is uncertain if Williams will have the paperwork and physical completed in time to participate in the practice. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

I'd stretch that and say thankfully none of the other faux-returners are returning kicks... The last time I remember an effective return game is when we threw Rod Smith back there for awhile. Reuben Droughns was also an excellent kick-returner before he became our starting RB. I don't remember anyone else, sadly.

I Agree JR except for one thing. HIXON WAS NOT superb at it with the giants. He returned 1 for a TD. Just one.

All else, he did his usual crappiness. I also think in the superbowl he might have brought one back to the 35.

Glenn martines did all of the same with us last year. Hixon just gets a boost cuz they won the SB, but really he is no more then a glen martines. (for now atleast.)

While you may be correct about HIXON, I did not see them all that much last year but when I did he played well returning kicks.. something he did not do well here for whatever reason..

Martinez is what I call at the real low point in personnel we have had on this team over the many years I have watched the team and especially since PAT bought the team..

With no contract in place, Clady may be late
By Lee Rasizer

Thursday, July 24, 2008

The Broncos entered today's opening of training camp far apart in negotiations with first-round draft pick Ryan Clady.

Discussions were ongoing Thursday night regarding the former Boise State player, who's expected to start at left tackle.

But barring an all-night bargaining session between the club's front office and Clady's representative, Pat Dye Jr., and without substantial movement in those talks, it appeared the 12th selection in the April draft initially could be a no-show.

The Broncos report for physicals at 6 a.m., followed by their first meeting two hours later. The Broncos normally meet Thursday afternoon, but that was pushed back so they made sure to adhere to a league rule necessitating a 15-day window before the first preseason game.

As for Clady, the Broncos for some time had been having difficulty getting a counteroffer off their original proposal before talks finally got serious Thursday.

It was clear Dye wanted to see how the market shaped up in the spots surrounding his client before proceeding. And with 10th pick Jerod Mayo signing with New England, coupled with agreements reached by two other tackles, Chris Williams (No. 14) and Branden Albert (No. 15), there was a greater sense of urgency. Still, there were roadblocks holding up the deal.

"If you look at our history over the last 20 years, I think we've had one person hold out," coach Mike Shanahan said. "So chances are he'll be signed, ready to go."

As expected, the Broncos hammered out a four-year contract with second-round pick Eddie Royal on Thursday morning. The contract is worth $3.95 million with $2.4 million in guaranteed money.

Agents are lame. #10 is done, it's not rocket science.

If Clady doesn't get his ass into camp, then I don't see him starting, at least not right away. He needs to get into camp so he can learn our complex blocking systems. If Clady wants to play, I suggest he tells that agent of his to shut up so he can start next season.

Ryan Clady (Denver Post file photo)It took all-night, nonstop negotiation but the Broncos and their No. 1 draft pick Ryan Clady reached an agreement on a six-year contract.

The deal was reached about an hour before Broncos were to begin training camp by reporting for physicals at 6 a.m. this morning.

The parameters of the deal would include guarantees of between $10.7 million and $11 million and an option for the rookie left tackle to void after his fifth season providing he meets certain playing time incentives.

What will Clady buy first once he collects a portion of his NFL bonus?

"Probably some furniture," Clady said. "Although, I still have to get a place worked out."

After the player physicals, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was to lead the team's season-opening meeting before commencing the workout at 11:15 a.m.

I think that we got him for a fairly reasonable price. Hopefully he lives up to his potential and is all he is made out to be.

Five years [Six, but can be voided], 17.5 million for a guy who could grow into one of the best left tackles in the league? Absolutely. The going rate for a stud is almost three times that, so I'm quite happy. Makes me feel good that we got all of our picks for less than the total costs of some of the top picks. :salute:
