I hope this doesn't mean that Moreno and Buckhalter are in worse shape than has been reported.

he's not a lead back, but i've always liked the way he runs with determination and vigor.

plus, there's a certain cache to being able to say "the son of huggy bear is a denver bronco."

I like the depth now with Moreno, Bucky, White and Fargas.

Moreno and Bucky are more versatile but White and Fargas both are tough downhill type runners. Moreno is deffinitely our most talented but I think we just helped lighten the load a bit.

Here's Michael Bush on his twitter:

Big Ups to my boy Justin Fargas. He about to sign with the Broncos. Congrats man

Moreno seems to be ok but it's Buckhalter that always seems to have nagging injuries. So, if he's here great if not then we have a little insurance.

good move. We need RB in the worst way. Toney baker is prob on the outs headed to the PS-

I am not a fargas fan as I do not think he is that skilled as a RB. I think he is just average, but the guy does give it his all and runs hard every single time. For that I commend him and enjoy the signing.

The faid cut fargas, because michael bush is much better and they have run dmc....

I bet fargas and knowshon are splitting reps weeks 1-4. Then when buck and white are back fargas goes back to being a FB and a #4 RB.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/2010/08/10/broncos-about-to-add-rb-justin-fargas/4370/

Pending a physical, the Broncos will add former Oakland Raider Justin Fargas to their banged-up running back core.

Adding Fargas became necessary after the Broncos’ top two running backs, Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter, went down with injuries on the first day of training camp, and then the first guy signed to fill in, LenDale White, went down in his first true training-camp practice with an undisclosed leg injury.

Buckhalter visited with a neck and spine specialist in Philadelphia and should now be cleared to return to practice after the Broncos’ preseason game Sunday at Cincinnati.

Moreno probably won’t return until after the second preseason game Aug. 21 against Detroit. The addition of Fargas likely means White will need to hurry up and get healthy if he wants to make the team. Already, he will miss the first four games of the regular season to serve a suspension. White, the former Denver South and Chatfield high school star, needs the preseason to prove he can help the Broncos starting in week 5.

Fargas, 30, rushed for 1,009 yards on 4.5 yards per carry in 2007; 853 yards in 2008 but only 491 yards in 2009 as he gave way to Darren McFadden and Michael Bush.

Fargas played especially well against the Broncos in 2008, rushing 97 and 107 yards in two games; and had a 146-yard rushing game at Invesco Field in 2007.

I guess so! I always thought of him as a good back, never realized he was already 30.

McFadden hasn't been all that impressive since college!!

I noticed Fargas a couple years ago when we blew out the faiders to open the season. By the end of the game you could tell they had all given up, except for Fargas, he continued to run full speed, with attitude. Thats the type of guy I want on my team.

I like the signing. Bucks a wash, made of glass. Moreno hasn't proven anything yet and really sure what we have in the other guys although Toney seems to bring a power element Denver desperatly needs. I wouldn't be surprised to see White and Vargas end up as the best two RB's out of the bunch.

After I posted that comment then I saw a another thread that said that Buckhalter was going to see a specialist.

Fargas and White ability wise are solid players so Buckhalter is gone at least we should lose to much in the way power running with those two guys.

Your feelings make me smile. But since he's not running AGAINST Denver, it won't happen.

Just turned 30, banged up, failed a physical (although he disputed it) and they decided that Bush and McFadden are the future.

Decent signing, he'll give 500% on every play. An upgrade of former Raider running backs (see Lamont Jordan).

But hes a pretty tough runner and never seems to give up. Plus I remember him shredding us a few years ago as well. :fight: So that memory always sticks with me.

i wouldn't sweat it-- the history of the AFC west is absolutely littered with guys who switched teams within the division, sometimes several times. . .

lyle alzado, bill romanowski, chester mcglockton, darrien gordon, cooper carlisle, dale carter, lamont jordan, cornell green, ashley lily, etc etc ad nauseum. . .

playing against guys twice a year often breeds familiarity that results in coaches looking to add those guys when they're available. . .

hell, don't forget where we got mike shanahan. . . if fargas brings one tenth of that venom, he's more than welcome as far as i'm concerned. . .

Fargas has been the best rb on the raiders squad since they signed him....i have always noticed the power he runs with. he was completely under-utilized by the fade.
he and bush are the best backs in the stable...guess we just stole one of the 2:elefant:

So that is what now, 7 RB's on the roster competing for 3 positions?

The Denver Post
(http://feeds.denverpost.com/~r/dp-blogs-broncos/~3/O6md5TP2KA8/)

Justin Fargas will no longer be punishing the Broncos’ defense. Not on game days, anyway. Fargas, the former Oakland Raider running back, passes his physical Tuesday night and has signed with the Broncos.

Fargas is expected on the practice field for the team’s 8:45 a.m. practice Wednesday. He was signed following injuries, and hardly swift recoveries, of running backs Knowshon Moreno (hamstring), Correll Buckhalter (balck) and LenDale White (leg).

Fargas joins a camp running back group of Lance Ball, Bruce Hall and Toney Baker. The Broncos will have to make a roster move to make room for Fargas.

Fargas is hard nosed, a real gridiron trojan.

He fought off injuries first couple of years, but McFadden couldnt unseat him in his first two years.

I would not be shocked if he played alot this year.

He will unseat White, if White ever had a seat.

Agreed they do make a nice tandem but with Buckhalter having a back injury we still better off keeping White and Fargas around imo.

Knowshon Moreno. Correll Buckhalter. LenDale White. Justin Fargas.

First one off the gurney carries the ball against Jacksonville?

The hard running but oft-injured Fargas is the latest to join the stable of walking wounded known as the Broncos' running back corps. The longtime Oakland Raider was signed by the Broncos after passing his physical Tuesday night.

"We need the help right now," said Lance Ball, the Broncos' No. 1 tailback in training camp after all the injuries. "We're kind of thin. We've all been working, but it's beneficial to bring in competition."

The addition of Fargas, 30, means one of two things: One, Denver needs an experienced back to absorb some preseason carries — starting Sunday night at Cincinnati against the Bengals — until Moreno, Buckhalter and White heal.

Or two, the Broncos are concerned about the long-term health of Buckhalter and the condition of White.

Fargas, whose father Antonio Fargas played "Huggy Bear" on the "Starsky and Hutch" TV series from 1975-79, is no slouch when healthy, rushing for 1,009 yards in 2007.

And Fargas punished the Broncos, rushing for 97 and 107 yards in two games in 2008; and 146 yards in a 2007 game at Invesco Field at Mile High.

"Power," Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey said. "He's a good power back."

The Broncos will have to make a roster move before officially adding Fargas. After failing a physical with the Raiders in March because of a knee injury, Fargas had free-agent visits with Cleveland, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Seattle and New Orleans. But his knee wasn't ready. Five months of rehab and injuries to three Broncos running backs later, Fargas has been cleared to play.

Meanwhile, Buckhalter visited with a neck and spine specialist in Philadelphia and should be cleared to practice Monday. Moreno probably won't return from a hamstring injury until after the second preseason game Aug. 21 against Detroit. White suffered a strained leg last week. He will miss the first four games of the regular season to serve a suspension.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- After seven years in Oakland, Justin Fargas refers to his opportunity in Denver as "a new beginning." But that doesn't mean the newly signed running back won't draw on lessons learned in the Raiders' backfield as he starts his Broncos career.

With three Broncos running backs currently being held out of practice, Fargas joins training camp with an instant chance to impress. Being thrust into such a competitive situation could be an overwhelming prospect for a 30-year-old running back eager to show he can still produce.

Luckily, Fargas credits several years bouncing around Oakland's depth chart with granting him a refreshing perspective on how to approach a position battle.

"I understand how to work with other guys and just take advantage of my opportunities," Fargas said after his first Broncos practice Wednesday morning. "I'm not here to work against anybody. You know, there's competition and things like that, but I know the better you are as a corps, the better the offense is."

The Broncos hope the 6-foot-1, 220-pound running back can return to the form he exhibited while topping the 1,000-yard rushing mark in 2007. In his first practice and media session since officially signing Wednesday morning, Fargas took a good first step, showing a commitment to picking up the offense quickly and vowing to work hard to carve out a niche on his new squad.

"It's a new offense, a new system, a new team, a new city so I'm just getting adjusted," Fargas said. "I'm expecting to learn fast and get in there and contribute."

It's the fresh start the former third-round pick out of USC has been seeking.

After being released by the Raiders in March, Fargas, who has amassed 3,369 career rushing yards, began looking for options to continue his career.

With Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter and LenDale White sidelined, the Broncos had practiced since late last week with Lance Ball -- a veteran of one career regular season game -- as their most experienced running back. Fargas said he had been in contact with the Broncos "for a while" and the timing was finally right.

Fargas got right to work Wednesday morning, hitting the Dove Valley practice field for his first two workouts.

After participating in morning position drills, Fargas spent most of the 11-on-11 drills near running backs coach Eric Studesville as he tried to grasp the team's offense. During an afternoon session in which the players practiced in shells and shorts, Fargas got more involved, taking reps during the team periods.

"(Fargas) came out here and worked," Ball said of his new teammate. "He's a hard worker. He wants to learn. It's all about being a sponge right now, so he can help us out in this offense."

Those familiar with Broncos football likely are not surprised by that news after getting a first-hand look at Fargas' Raiders career. In 12 games against Denver, the running back totaled 419 yards on 108 carries with a touchdown, including two 100-yard efforts. That success, Fargas ventured, might have helped him end up in orange and blue.

"He's a very physical runner," Spencer Larsen said. "I'm excited to see him get into it."

Head Coach Josh McDaniels has not addressed Fargas' status for Sunday's preseason opener at Cincinnati, and the running back said he wasn't yet sure if he would play.

But whether it's sooner or later, Fargas said he's embracing the chance to contribute to an increasingly competitive running back group.

Ball said it's becoming clear that the best running back is going to get the most reps in the preseason and beyond.

Thanks to experience and excitement for a new environment, the newest Bronco thinks he has a chance to factor into that mix.

"From what I understand, (this opportunity is) just going to be whatever I make it," Fargas said. "I'm just looking forward to working hard, learning as much as I can and just helping the offense."

SCRATCHING FOR LONDON

Fans entering the Dove Valley practice facility on Wednesday were greeted by two Buckingham Palace guards.

Sporting red suits and furry black hats and flanked by a pair of giant scratch-off lottery tickets, the pair cut an imposing figure for fans hoping to see the morning workout.

But unlike their silent, stone-faced counterparts in London, the guards didn't turn anyone away. In fact, they handed visitors aged 18-and-over complimentary Broncos-themed scratch-off lottery tickets.

The promotion launched the new instant win game from the Colorado Lottery, which promotes the team's Oct. 31 game against San Francisco at Wembley Stadium in London.

It is the second straight year the two organizations have partnered together on an officially-licensed scratch-off game. This year's offering includes more than $7 million in prizes, plus a pair of second-chance online drawings to win a trip to London or one of 15 pairs of club level season tickets for the 2011 season.

"That should be a fun time over there," Broncos Chief Operating Officer Joe Ellis said after Wednesday morning's practice. "We're excited as an organization to go over and represent our city and our league, and we're proud that the lottery is able to partner with us on that."

Last season's Broncos-themed Scratch game generated $8.5 million in sales and $1.3 million for Colorado State Parks, Great Outdoors Colorado and the Conservation Trust Fund.

Boosted by the tie to the London game and several new prizes, Colorado Lottery Director Abel Tapia -- one of several state lottery officials who also attended the practice -- said he expects this year's partnership to be just as successful.

From the Broncos' end, Ellis said renewing the partnership was an easy choice.

"We hope people go out and purchase it," Ellis said. "It benefits a lot of great things in Colorado as everybody knows. We're excited to have the second year of this partnership underway."

For more information or to register non-winning lottery tickets for the second-chance drawings, fans can visit www.coloradolottery.com.
