I added Scheff at TE for another B averaged. He could be an A this year. Completely inexperienced kickers make me real nervous.

some of those grades are based on ability as much as production-- for example, cutler hasn't produced at a pro bowl level yet, but IMO he is a pro bowl-caliber talent. . . i don't see how anyone can grade rookies that have never taken the field in a pro game, though. . .

F is "questionable NFL talent," and i think those guys are the definition of the term. . . pears would get an F too. . . i often question whether those guys should be in the NFL. . .

I agree - pure guesswork here. Plus, even if Clady (for example) pans out, as I think he will, his game one films will look very different from game 16.

You had some players missing so I added them.

I noticed Lynch doesn't seem to be getting much love.
After four straight Pro Bowls, I'm willing to give him at least a B until he proves he's over the hill

Top - I love having Lynch on the roster, I really do, but I think his days as anyhing like a top tier safety are long past. He's such a solid guy you keep him around regardless for leadership/example, but he is a liability in a lot of ways. he's still our best safety, but thats not a good thing.

Requiem / The Dagda

Well, I wish there was a better grading scale than what was given -- but I'll make due; I'll expand with reasoning on most the players I can. I'll use Top's expanded roster, because he did more justice to the evaluation process by doing so. The depth ratings are little too ambiguous and don't make much sense either, so I don't know if I'll dabble. . . we'll see.

QB Overall Grade: A-

Cutler - A; he gets an A because he has Pro-Bowl talent, but hasn't lived up to it yet. I think with more weapons this year and a better line, he'll prove that.

Ramsey - B; Ramsey as an overall player gets a "C" based on BOSS' rankings, but as a back-up, I think he's deserving of a B ranking. I think you'd be hard pressed to find any other roster in the league with as quality of a back-up as Patrick, IMHO.

RB Overall Grade: C

Young - B; A good talent, who produced well as an UDFA. Solid starter, not spectacular, currently the best "proven" opinion on our roster.

Torain - I; Has great potential, but gets an "I" for incomplete because we haven't seen him play. It's quite possible that he could be a Pro-Bowler in our offense if he lives up to potential.

Pittman - C; Doesn't hurt having him on the roster, but he's not anything special.

Hall - C; Great role player; a true flash in the pan. Only an average NFL player; but serves well in his role.

WR Overall Grade: B+

Marshall - A; One of the premier younger receivers in the league, also one of the biggest character concerns in the league, IMHO. Might have one of the best skillsets in the league.

Jackson - B+; Should thrive in a WCO like ours with a quarterback who can actually through the ball. IMHO, if he wins the second job; he should put up some good numbers aside Marshall. With Marshall possibly seeking suspension from the NFL; he could do better than projected.

Stokely - C; For his role he's much better than this, but overall he's a slot receiver at best. That means he's an average overall receiver, but with a good skill set at one particular option at the position.

Colbert - C; Wasn't really given his fair shake in Carolina, and his QB situation sucked. He has a good skill set, but injuries have nagged on him. Could be a "B" if he balls up this year and makes the most out of a player friendly situation.

Royal - I; Projects well as a #2 and #3 in the NFL; gets out of breaks well and has good hands. Will stretch the field. I think he'll be a great option for us in a few years, but it's too early to tell.

Others - C+; Parker, Martinez and company bring good options at the 5 and 6 spots for the team; aren't bad role players -- but shouldn't be more of an option than listed above.

TE Overall Grade: B

Scheffler - B; Pro-Bowl potential, but has had a career hindered by lingering foot injuries. He's a very solid player, regardless and one of the best receiving threats on our roster.

Graham - B; Great blocker, above-average receiver. Still a nice option to have, good -- but not great.

Jackson and Mustard - D; I'm being kind giving these two D's; because there probably isn't another damn roster in the NFL that'd give these turds the chances and hands they've been dealt.

OL Overall Grade: B

Clady/Harris - I; Great potential for bookends and have great skill-sets for the ZBS; but are unproven. They should be good players, IMHO. Until now, incomplete grades.

Hamilton - C; By all means should be out of football, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Nalen - B; Despite his age, one of the better players around.

Holland - C; Never been a fan of Holland, not as a Seminole, not as a Saint, not as a Bronco. Probably isn't playing in his right position anways, but whatever.

Kuper - B; If the team actually kept him inside where he belongs, he could be a Pro-Bowl player. He's the offensive equivalent to DJ Williams. It's a damn shame too.

Depth - B; Pears and company are decent depth for the team; at least we have better options than we did over the past couple years.

DT Overall Grade: C+

Robertson - B; Has been playing in a poor scheme for the past several years, and plays through injuries. He's a tough player though, and an unquestioned leader on the field. A much better fit in a traditional 4-3 scheme like ours, and if healthy, should bring forth positive results. Not a Pro-Bowler, but a solid player.

Thomas - B; IMHO, has Pro-Bowl potential; but probably won't even ascend to it due to questionable behavior and work ethic. Still pretty raw, but young enough to grow and assume to the potential he showed pre-departure from Florida.

McKinley - C: Great depth player, average starting player. Underrated though. Versatile gap defender who can play inside and out if need be and works really hard. One of the Browncos people should actually be excited and happy that we signed.

Powell - I; Should be a great run-stuffing gap defender; but don't know yet because he's a rookie. Will be great as a situational player as a rookie. Won't be an all-star; but should have a good pro career.

Depth - F; Absolutely horrendous; we're damn lucky we drafted Powell and got Robertson because outside the four above, not a one of them is worth a darn. Peterson is too much of a tweener to even consider here to get a ranking.

DE Overall Grade: B

Dumervil - A; Undersized and underrated. A liability (somewhat) against the run, but one of the premier pass rushers in the league. More consistency and an improvement in the running game should give him a good chance at making the trip to Hawaii in 2008.

Crowder - B; Probably the most underrated defender on the team. Can rush the passer, and is good against the run. Is a hard worker and extremely football savvy. Perhaps this teams next Barney Chavous; but I'd be happy if he turned into a modern day Greg Ellis.

Moss - B; Gets this ranking on potential and abilities alone. Has bulked up, and if he stays healthy he should be a good player. Needs to get much better against the run and learn some new pass rush moves. IMHO, will probably end up being a bust.

Ekuban and Engleberger - C; Average players who are past their prime; but serve as good depth at the left end position.

LB Overall Grade: C

Williams - B; One of the most overrated defenders on the team and by fans on this forum. Doesn't make plays that force turnovers often and is a liability in the passing game. Is back at his natural position which he should do much better than; but is a classic case of someone who looks like Tarzan, but for the most part plays like Jane. Lacks the football intelligence to ever grow into a great NFL player.

Bailey - B; Is a "good" starter, but not great. Should do a lot better here than he did in Detroit. Hopefully we'll utilize his athleticism and send him on blitzes like he should be used. Gotta love a former Dawg.

Koutouvides - C; Hasn't ever been a starter, and has been a back-up and special teams player his whole career. Why should I be excited?

Webster - C; The best thing about Webster is how often he loses his helmet on the field. He's a passionate player; a jack of all trades -- but is just an average player.

Winborn, Beck, etc. - Depth is all right, not special. Wesley Woodyard is probably better than any of them and he hasn't played a down in the NFL; this is a position we'll be looking to upgrade in 2009 early in the draft - I'd bet my life on it.

CB Overall Grade: A

Bailey - A+; He's the best in the league still period; but he has some younger cats on his tail. Great run supporter, and a great cover corner. He's the STANDARD in the NFL at the position.

Bly - B; Yeah, he's a Pro-Bowler prior, but gambles far too much for my liking. Is not good in run support, and his gambling in the passing department has been detrimental to the team. A big "Risk v. Reward" calculated player. It's fitting we replaced Darrent with a similar player; one of the better #2's in the NFL because he could certainly be a #1 on a lot of teams.

Foxworth - B; Jack of all trades, master of none. Smart, intelligent player with a great head on his shoulders; will never be a #1 corner, but could make a good living off of being a #2 or a #3. Might be undervalued here in Denver.

Paymah - C; Great skill set, but he's buried behind superb players. In all actuality has starting potential. Probably someone we'll never see blossom due to how many quality players we do have here. Glad he's on the roster.

Williams - I; Should be a good nickel back in the NFL; and has the ability to be a good number two. He'll learn from some of the best, but I'll reserve my judgment for now. Let's hope he can help us in the future.

S Overall Grade: C

Lynch - B; One of the best to probably ever play the game at the position. A leader on and off the field, and a wonderful family and community man. IMHO, overrated by some on the forum, but what he brings to the team is absolutely priceless, and we're more than lucky to have him here.

McCree - B; Savvy veteran who should bolster our run support from the position immensely. Average in coverage, but a hard-nosed, pop-in-the-mouth defender. Reminds me of Kenoy Kennedy; and I hope we use him in a similar role; he'd excel.

Abdullah - C; A feel good player who was the benificiary of a crappy situation here in Denver at the position. Shouldn't be starting at all; but as a depth player, he's fine. (Takes horrendous angles and almost looks lost out there; in other words, poor instinct.)

Manuel - C; Average NFL talent, being on four teams in several years is indicative of it; but not bad for depth. Actually glad he's here.

Barrett/Rogers - I; I love their potential, but it remains to be seen. Good college players who were hindered by injuries. I think both have starting potential; and I hope at least one of them pans out.

K Overall Grade: I

Prater/Hartley - I; Pro potential remains to be seen, but they can kick the ball.

Paulescu/Kern - I; Once again, young and unproven, but they can boot well. I think Kern will win the starting job.

Coaching staff: B; Not too bad, but most of them are Shanahan "Yes Men" -- we have some promising younger position coaches like Jeremy Bates who add some vigor to the overall outlook here.

Well I went with what many are grading here. I couldn't give Clady a B as a B is above average and without playing a down I can't say he game wise he is above average. I am surprised Topscribe gave Hamilton a C. He is one of they key pieces that we missed on the line. I think he is a B player.

I gave Cutler a B and struggled with that he hasn't been routinely consistent but he has improved so I would say he is above average.

Selvin Young I wanted to give a B but with his injuries I feel its keeping him average right now.

I agree with DJ Williams as an A especially back at the Will spot he should be much improved in his natural position. I want to give Niko Kouti a B because I really think he will be a bright spot but he has only played as a back up, granted to possibly one of the best MLB in the league. Seattle fans rave about him so I hope he pans out.

WR Marshall gets an A based on play making ability. But the knucklehead needs to stay out of trouble and avoid suspension possibilities. Stokely is a B as he plays the slot and wasn't very good as the 2, its not his strong suit.

Royal has been left out on some lists and I think he will be a pleasant surprise as well. But his skill will be most showed this year as a return specialist.

So there you go that's my take.

Great idea BOSS! The only thing I dislike about it is that you have "Questionable NFL talent" as an F.

All our rookies are "Questionable nfl talent" they haven't played a down yet so how could they be anything else? I project both Clady and Torain to be better then an F but none the less, they are both Questionable NFL talent, therefore I graded them with your grading formula.

Based on both talent and ability, I see the Broncos like this:

I give the Offense as a whole...a B+. I think that the QB and TE positions are A grades. Cutler is a star and Ramsay is a former first round draft pick with much talent. Graham and Sheffler are potential pro-bowl TE's and the depth is solid with Jackson and Mustard. OL, RB's, WR's all get B's as individual units. Lots of talent there and some proven vets.

I give the Defense as a whole a B. LB's and CB's get an A from me. I like what I see in the back seven. I would not be surprised to see 3-4 of these starters in the Pro-bowl next year...and no I'm not smoking it. I give the DL a B with lots of upside. I like the potential of Moss, Crowder and Thomas and I have to believe that guys like Robertson, Mckinley, Ekubon and Peterson will provide needed veteran leadership...that's not to mention our sack artist in Dumervil.

I give our ST's a C. This is based solely on potential. They could fall to a D or rise to an A. We'll have to see what the preseason will bring. In my opinion, this is the biggest question mark on the team. For what it's worth I like Prater and Kern to be our future...we'll see. The addition of some of our rookies, especially Royal and perhaps guys like Hillis and Larson should help out in this arena.

I give our Coaches and Organization an A. Say what you want about shanahan but he's averaged 10 wins a year since he's been with the Broncos and 9.9 or something like that since Elway retired. That's not to mention Pat Bowlen and his willingness to let coaches coach. All in all, this is a well coached football team!

Yes, I'm a homer...but at the same time, I think this is realistic and with good health this team will surprise many!!!

A = Pro Bowl talent
B = Good/ Solid Player
C = Average talent
D = Below average talent
F = Questionable nfl talent

After you grade each starter grade the depth at the each position using the same chart and average it out with the starter to give the overall letter grade for that position.

Since your instructions were to grade the projected starters, I graded my projected starters.

I'm glad to see Ekuban get some love from a defensive coach. I hope he plays
back up to the level he was in the last half of the 2006 season, before he
was injured, because he was an absolute beast during that time. Indeed, he
was finally living up to his first-round credentials.

I cannot believe what has happened to that DL. It went from an anemic
collander to what seems a mob of monsters. I am really excited over that
line this year.

Great analysis Dream, except of course you once again missed the boat entirely with Nate Jackson

In fact, I like both Jackson, a good receiver, and Mustard, a good blocker.
They make superb backups, IMO. That TE position is overall the best in the
league (assuming everyone is healthy), IMO.
