Bucs released DL Patrick Chukwurah

I know, I know.... another free agent pick up for the Broncos thread?!

yes, yes it is..... Didn't anyone like Chukwurah when he was here? We need depth at linebacker and Chukwurah is a great special teamer. I don't think it would hurt to bring him back and let him battle it out with some of the guys we have right now.

What do you say Broncos fans?

I say the only things (2) that I liked about him were his intensity and that he threw up on national TV against the Pats. Other than that, he's not worth bringing back.

Players like him are like ex girlfriends, y'all broke up for a reason.

No thanks. If we're going to bring another LB in for competition I'd rather see some one like Trotter or another MLB.

No because as it is we have six defensive ends.

some of the younger crowd liked his name chucky beyond that I see no reason to bring him in unless one or more of our LB guys goes down..

He can play linebacker Bronc... He is only 240 lbs, we just used him in situations in 2006 where he played DE... and he did pretty good... I think he had 4 or 5 sacks that year, but I could be wrong.

He was playing defensive end when got those sacks. He's a much better edge rusher than linebacker, that's what I think considering that he was use exclusively as defensive end when he was here.

I liked him. He puked. Leaves everything on the field and he is a Piscean. I don't know if we should pick him up though, based on that alone

He's may have been listed as a LB here, but he was used as a pass rushing DE. He had 4.5 sacks in obvious passing situations in 2006. I don't think we need another one dimensional DE.

If it's for vet minimum I say bring him in. He was also good on special teams, and could probably get on the field on 3rd downs a bit as well. If he makes the team great, if not, no harm done.

I'm wondering who you're referring to? If it's who I think you are I'd see them more and every down type of players. We all know how we rotate DL. After the injuries we've had the past couple years, depth would be nice. In my mind there's no harm in bringing the predator in. If he makes the team, cool. If he gets beat out by other players, the other players are better and deserve the roster spot.

True... but the goal is to have both become more 3 dimensional. Moss seems to have bulked up and should be better against the run this year. If they do both mature, we're going to be using them more on 1st ans 2nd downs. If I'm not mistaken, even though Dumervil's value may be highest on 3rd downs, I'm fairly sure we were starting him most snaps regardless.

After the superbowl, EVERYONE wanted MORE passrushers. Look at how great the Giants were. Now everyone wants to say that 'No... we have two pass rushers. Having more behind them would be stupid'. I don't really follow how we got to this point. Heck, wouldn't it even be good to have three people on the field at the same time able to get to the QB? No... I suppose that would never make sense either.

For what it's worth, his last year here he was listed as a DE... because he was moved there to maximize his already strong ability to get to the QB. He showed that ability originally from the OLB spot. So we could use him as a blitzer on top of our two 'other situational players' or we could move one of them inside next to Robertson or Moss and have three on the line.

Say that all fails and he's not good enough for that. We have a pathetic ST unit. I really feel that we've made progress on that this offseason... but bringing in another player who can really contribute can't be bad, can it?

That all said... if he comes in and we think there's not a place for him on the team... nothing says he makes the final roster.

So what harm is there really in looking for more contributors?

You're right there is no harm in looking for more contributors but my preference would be for younger guys than Chukwurah.

He did admiral job when he was here but I think we can do better.

I suspect he will not be a full time every down DE.. Regardless of what you might see on a depth chart he will not be in on most first downs..

Yes I know that we rotate alot but at 250 pounds he will not be able to withstand the rigors of being and every down player. IMO

He had his shot...couldn't break the starting lineup...wanted a big payout....had his chance.

Firstly, how do you know the ST is "pathetic"? Have you seen them already? If so, you're the first.
Shanny has brought in a boatload of ST'ers, LT...let them have a chance to fail.

And why bring back a player, just to cut him? Aren't there enuf of them already on the roster? I'd say let a team that thinks he might actually HELP them give him a real shot. You're coming across pretty coldly, imo. This is, afterall, his livelihood...not just a part time sojourn. :coffee:

He wont be able to handle it? Interesting because he had 16 starts in 16 games. That's called handling the rigors.

So regardless of what you think you know the facts don't back you.

Ok... I'm sorry for misspeaking. Our Special Teams HAVE been pathetic. It's impossible to say what they'll do this year, because we've brought in so many new players? Why not one more? Give one more a chance to fail?

As for the rest of your post, are you just trying to discredit me or did you seriously only read the last 20% of my post? The first 80% was me laying out the different reasons how I think he could be a contributor for our team and would like to see him back here. Does that make me cold? Lots of people will go to different teams and many will end up cut... that's very sad, but it's true even on our team whether or not we bring him back.

If he's out there and is going to be given a shot somewhere, I'd like for it to be Denver. My attitude towards Chukwurah is probably the warmest on the forum.

Your cold attempt to make it look otherwise was pointless.

You made some really points in your last post. Chukwurah could contribute in both special teams and as situational pass rusher but don't I see where we could put him on the roster. And again, I think we would be better served by continuing to add younger talent.

If were just picking guys up because they puked on TV, lets pick up the dude who puked on the field then went to the WWF and made a living on puking in the ring!

Chukwurah is one of those guys who will jump around from team to team for 3-4 years and fade off into the distance... but dont feel bad, because you may see him again... he may be greeting you at wal-mart in 4-5 years!

I liked Chukwurah when he was here. I think he showed intensity and fire. I think he could have a role for us as a backup Linebacker and Special Teams guy. I definitely wouldn't put him at DE, he just doesn't fit there at all. Not even in pass rushing situations.

I'd take a look at him in FA but I wouldn't sweat about him.

He was a linebacker that we converted to defensive end and then didn't let him go back to linebacker. He was a good linebacker and I wouldn't have a problem with him, except for our current line-up...there's no room for him as linebacker.
