ENGLEWOOD, Colo. July 7, 2010 — The Denver Broncos on Wednesday were assigned offensive lineman Kirk Barton off waivers, it was announced. Barton was waived by the Detroit Lions on Tuesday.

Barton (6-foot-6, 300 pounds) is a second-year player who played in one game (0 starts) as a rookie for the Bears in 2008 after he was drafted by the club in the seventh round (247th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft from Ohio State University. He also spent time with Miami, San Francisco and Cincinnati.

A first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2007 for Ohio State, Barton started all 26 games at right tackle for the Buckeyes during his final two collegiate seasons.

Barton, who attended Massillon Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio, was born on Nov. 4, 1984.

tough kid, but i really don't know that he has the athleticism to stick at this level. . . probably signed mostly as a camp body because of clady's absence. . .

So we improved our team by signing someone the Lions gave up on?

any buckeye alumni deserves a shot with the broncos.....(o.k. ..........Clarett didn't deserve a shot...but any other buckeye alumni does)

It may or may not improve our team, but it certainly doesn't hurt it.

I suspect that clady or for that matter harris will no be in TC if they are limited duty. Having a spare body in case is not a bad thing.

Remember that 08 all starters played almost 100% of the season that is rare for that to happen.

Worst case he is cut.

I agree, camp body. If he beats out polumbus so what? If he doesn't, so what?

I think it is a bit premature to simply write somebody off as a camp body.

In the NFL personal success oftentimes relies on a player being in the right city, with the right coaching with the right system, etc...

With this line of thinking, McCaffery could have easily been labeled a camp body.

If this cat makes the team that will pretty much tell me our talent level on the o-line sucks......
