In the Sirius NFL radio interview with Shanahan, he said that Lynch asked him whether there was a chance he could be an every down safety, rather than just being used on 1st or 1st/2nd downs. Shanny told him that he wouldn't guarantee him anything other than he would let him compete and if he was the best guy to play all three downs, he would be a full time starter.

Not sure if this is an indication that he didn't like that answer, or simply that he is trying to walk the line between not wearing himself out in the off-season while also training and preparing for the '08 season.

John Lynch is a gamer! He will work his ass off. If he makes the team it will because he won the position. Players in Oakland, San Diego, Kansas City, and other places will spend more time in the trainers room because of it. That sounds like a good deal to me.

true, one thing is for sure, lynch is not doing this so that he can just 'take it easy.' he loves football and wants to start, and he's going to do the work that he feels puts him in the best situation to play at a high level and start in 2008.

seems to me he's just trying his best to be in shape. People make too much out of the littlest things.

You are right. He is not that kind of a player.

This particular workout is not new for Lynch. Some years ago, before he came to us, I saw a show where he and Junior Seau were doing the same workout (or if not the same, something very similar). There were people from all walks of life there, and the workout was kicking John's and Junior's tails. The course was set up on the beach and they jogged between stations. The exercises looked pretty difficult. John and Junior both talked then about the importance of staying on top of their workouts as they got older in order to keep the younger guys from stealing their starting positions.

Much ado about nothing.

I think that this article is really old, and already been discussed.

If Lynch can handle being in for all downs, go for it. I see him as a team leader and one that works very hard.

ive seen john lynch workout in his documentery. it's pretty intense and i trust that he is only doing whats best for him to get in game shape at this point. lynch will be ready and he isnt looking for any controversy by working out on his own. lynch will be the starter and i personally think lynch will like a breather every now and then during the games at his age.

As others have said, one thing you can always count on with Lynch is that he will work his ass off and give it his all. If he is our best safety let him play, but if he gets beat out I think he will try to embrace a mentor role the best he can and try to help out our younger guys like Hamza and Barrett.

I'm a big Lynch fan have always liked the guy..

Mikey stated once last year about him being an on the field coach with our youngsters.. Makes the DB calls on coverage and how he was rarely wrong at knowing what the other team was going to do because of his game day prep and study..

The only question I have about John is is his losing a step going to affect his play in the past he has always been in the correct position to make the plays even though his is slower than when in TPA.

A class guy that has a fox for a wife and to my knowledge does not abuse her.. He has a love for the game and it obviously not in it just for the paycheck..

He will need to have a breather eventually.

That just means Lynch wont start this year. Last 2 years Lynch was literally handed the job. We have upgrades over Lynch on this team. I expect McCree and Hamza to start. Manual also had his best year in this system.

Unless he has lost more than ONE step he will play the majority of the plays.. He is to valuable as the DB play caller..

HE will come to camp in the best condition of his Bronco career..

He said he was in the best condition last year also. Had a crappy season. And with the plays being called into a helmet this year the plays will come in quicker and we wont need him calling the shots back there. McCree is a smart veteran himself.

Plays may come in from the sidelines but they mean NADA when the offense comes out in something we did not expect.

Mikey likes him because he once stated he is an on the field coach and with a great knowledge of the game and game plan..

I'd call your comment "crappy season" more of an indictment of the two different schemes we ran last year and having one of the worst DLines in the league, if not the worst.. having three "LB"s out there that most of the time were clueless. When everyone else is confused being the safety makes for really long days..

The only returning starters playing the same position last year were him and Champ. Not much to build on was there..

Lets see how the man plays before writing his OBIT..

As far as I can remember, no-one looked like an all pro on our defense last season, including Champ. His rep carried him to that award, not his play. I give the entire defensive backfield a mulligan for last season. A horrible front 7, a scheme that was never understood and then changed in mid-season, no pass rush, and a ton of injuries all contributed to the entire defense looking lousy last year.

Who looked good on the D last year? Lynch brings so much to the table in leadership and work ethics. The man will not work this hard to hurt the team, that's just not what is made of.

Bronco fans had a hard time letting Al Wilson go also. You all will realize Lynch is just not what he used to be. You think guys like Jerry Rice, and John Elway is not still smart and have great knowledge of the game? When you cant do is anymore physically then what you know mentally means nothing. It can only benefit other young players. I watched everybody performance after the season was over. Alot of guys had solid years. But as a whole they sucked. Lynch simply cant run anymore, His hips are stiff. Hes a liability vs the pass and run as i seen him pushed around last year. Thats not the Lynch i remember from the first time he got in Denver. He was a beast the first couple years here but hes got old. It happens. Hes old and he has dished out plenty punishment. That takes a toll on a players body. Hard hitting safeties like that rarely play 15 years and be effective down the stretch years of there careers.

Of course he wouldn't try to hurt the team
