Sorry ECF for you to lose Gonchar. He is a great player.

med, you have to cross out about 8 of those players from that Blackhawks picture!

That team just lost all its depth.

Sorry ECF for you to lose Gonchar. He is a great player.

Yes, he did a lot of good things for the team and I am sad to see him go. Man, he had one wicked laser of a slapshot, and ran the power play extremely well. I remember the last Game in Montreal, he was very lazy and looked lost-Keith Jones said that he looked "uninspired", but I was wondering if it was injury or fatigue, because he isn't a lazy player. But evidently the two guys that we got back there, Martin and Michalek really have the Pens brass smiling. Ray Shero is one heck of a GM; I knew that he wouldn't be happy not going farther in the playoffs last season and would make some moves to get better. I STILL say that the Olympics took a lot out of us-especially Crosby-but like I said months ago you could see that we were just "not up to snuff" last season, and were fatigued. But these trades should help out.

Thanks "Sarge" Gonchar for what you did-sorry to see you leave. :salute:

"LET'S GO PENS"

Oh, and p.s. the Cryers LOST in the Stanley Cup Finals...

Sorry ECF for you to lose Gonchar. He is a great player.

3yrs at $5.5 million per???? At least he gets to play with another old Russian friend in Kovalev.

The Pens were right to let the old broken down man go and use some of that money to upgrade their d, which they did with Martin and Michalek.

Worst crop of FA ever.

There are a few good names but for the most part, a lot of has beens.

I just hope my Canes get some depth.

Maybe some of their young players will come in.

No more Brindamour, Whitney and Cullen. 3 main cogs of the 06 Cup Team.
Yes I know that Cullen was gone already but still a good player nonetheless.

I just hope for the best.

Still have
Staal
Ruutu
Sutter
Jokinen
Cole (hopefully not hurt as always)
C Ward
Pitkanen
Gleason
and re-signed Babchuck

I want some kids to come up and play. This is a team in transition.

Flat how good is their #1 pick? Skinner can score but will he be ready?
Also Faulk on D?

Skinner is a great pick. Next to Hall was the best pure goal scorer in the draft and next to Hall has the best chance to play in the bigs this upcoming season.

As I said in an earlier post, a good buddy of mine coached him in minor hockey. Great kid.

Could the New York Islanders be ready to make the biggest splash so far in the free agent market?

According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger, there are rumblings that the club may make a lucrative, long term contract offer to forward Ilya Kovalchuk. One such source says that an offer could be in the 10-year, $100 million range. According to Dreger, however, most pundits still feel Los Angeles is the likely destination for Kovalchuk, even if the Islanders give it their best shot.

Late on Friday, Islanders general manager Garth Snow confirmed to ESPN via a text message that the club was involved in talking to Kovalchuk.

The Islanders are currently under the salary cap floor, and a large deal for Kovalchuk would help in that effort. A signing of that nature and star power could also help owner Charles Wang to get his stalled arena project back on track.

The 27-year old Russian sniper scored 41 goals and 43 assists in 76 regular season games with the Atlanta Thrashers and New Jersey Devils last season.

The Islanders are no strangers to long term deals, having signed Rick DiPietro to a 15-year deal in 2006, and Alexei Yashin to a 10-year deal in 2001.
