Im working on another article and its going to consist of a list the most consequential metal albums of 3 specific genres. Death, Black, and Thrash. Now, those list can include subgenres within those but they must definitely be in those 3 genres. This doesnt guarantee that your choices will make my final lists but i wanted to get a consensus on what you guys feel are the best of the best of those genres past and present. So i want you too list your top 10 of each genre in this thread for me. Thanks for you help.

What exactly do you mean by consequential? Are you looking for the albums which had the biggest influences on each genre as a whole or just the best overall albums? I think certain albums would be both, but not all.

I don't think I know enough bands to put 30 bands down, but I'll put down a few.

Black Dhalia Murder
Suicide Silence
October Tide
Katatonia
August Burns Red
Parkway Drive
Trivium
The Devil Wears Prada
As I Lay Dying

It would be a little of both. Not only the best but what you think every metal fan should at least hear. :D

Take away Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Motorhead ......... and none of these genres exist. For example, Motorhead was a huge influence on Bathory, who was a huge influence on Darkthrone, who was a huge influence on..................

Were it not for Celtic Frost, Obituary wouldn't have their guitar sound. It goes on and on, including Metallica being influenced by Venom and Mercyful Fate.

Thrash

Exodus Bonded By Blood (1985)

Sodom Persecution Mania (1987)

Flotsam and Jetsam Doomsday for the Deceiver (1986)

Metallica Master of Puppets (1986)

Metallica Kill Em All (1983)

Destruction Eternal Devastation (1986)

Anthrax Among the Living (1987)

Anthrax Fistful of Metal (1984)

Sodom Mortal Way of Live (1988)

Destruction Live Without Sense (1989)

Death Metal

Celtic Frost To Mega Therion (1985)

Slayer Reign in Blood (1986)

Celtic Frost Morbid Tales (1984)

Possessed Seven Churches (1985)

Obituary Slowly We Rot (1989)

Death Leprosy (1988)

Cannibal Corpse Eaten Back to Life (1990)

Morbid Angel Altars of Madness (1989)

Entombed Left Hand Path (1990)

Grave Into the Grave (1991)

Black Metal

Venom Black Metal (1982)

Mercyful Fate Melissa (1983)

Mercyful Fate Don't Break the Oath (1984)

Bathory Blood Fire Death (1988)

Bathory Under the Sign of the Black Mark (1987)

Darkthrone A Blaze in the Northern Sky (1992)

Mayhem De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994)

Venom Welcome to Hell (1981)

I LOVE Mercyful Fate!! Other than Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, I've probably listened to more King Diamond/Mercyful Fate than any other bands.

Back when I played bass, my biggest influence was Timi Hansen on Melissa. My favorite guitar sound is on Don't Break the Oath.

Favorite guitarist: Andy LaRocque (King Diamond).
Favorite Drummer: Mikkey Dee (current Motorhead/ former King Diamond).

wow, not a genre I got into. That said, I think Metallica is one of the finest bands to ever grace this planet. I can throw out some names, but they probably aren't metal.

Ministry
Korn
Disturbed
Rage Against the Machine
Marilyn Manson
Stabbing Westward
