It is fricking awesome.

Yeah okay there is a gay guy, and there is singing and dancing, but the characters are hilarious, and the music is amazing to sing along to.

No offense, but something about this show just pisses me off. I hate musicals where people break into song for no reason, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm sure its a fine show Kap, just not my cup of tea for some irrational reason. Never even seen it and I don't like it!

I don't know, he might be on to something. I forced myself to watch Glee last night and the next thing you know I was singing show tunes while wearing ass-less chaps. Thank god my friend Mike was able to calm me down and get me heterosexual again by giving me a scented oil massage. His rough, manly hands reminded me how much I like men...I mean, being manly!

5 Reasons to watch Glee http://http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2009/dec/15/five-reasons-watching-glee

1. It's happy television

It may the middle of a miserable winter in the middle of miserable economic funk, but in a world of grey, Glee is a big bouncing bundle of joy. It may not be like your real life – or, for that matter, the real life of any normal person – but it's escapism, pure and simple. A rash of Gleeks have taken over the internet - otherwise rational adults who will openly admit to loving it. Not in an ironic way; not in a bitter, arch, sarcastic way, just because it makes them feel happy.

2. It's not as much like High School Musical as you think it is

Granted, it's set in a high school, and it's a musical –it would be foolish to pretend that there are no similarities. But while the kids of HSM burst into song for no reason, the songs of Glee at least have context: the whole thing's about the school's all-singing, all-dancing after-school choir. And apart from that: the writing is sharp, the jokes are often risqué, and there are, one suspects, a few more references to puff and bonking than Disney would have felt comfortable with.

3. It's singalongable

You might have got all excited by hopes of a half-decent X Factor winner's song, only to be crushed when it turned out to be a Miley Cyrus cover instead. If that was the case, you have no need to fear – you'll get your full dose of Journey by the end of episode one. Don't Stop Believin' might well be stuck in your head for days afterward, but it's a small price to pay. And there a bunch of other singalong songs besides: cannily downloadable just after each episode first aired in the US, the individual tracks have been dominating the iTunes chart since the show began.

4. Jane Lynch

There's a good ensemble cast, but one of the main draws is one of the only non-singing characters. Jane Lynch might be better known as a film actor for her parts in Christopher Guest films including Best In Show and A Mighty Wind, as well as mainstream comedies such as Role Models and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. As cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, she's over-competitive, acerbic, scheming and generally unpleasant. She's also by far the funniest thing about the whole show, and (some would argue) it's worth watching for her performance alone.

5. There's nothing else quite like it

If you want another series with people running around with guns, shouting and solving crime in various technical and forensically dubious ways, there are always a dozen programs to chose from. But Glee doesn't really have any close comparisons: there really aren't very many musical comedy romantic television shows around. Yes, it might be a little corny sometimes. Perhaps there might occasionally be one upbeat song too many. And the relentless perkiness might not be for everyone. But while on paper it sounds like the kind of show destined to become a forgotten cult hit, in fact it's hit a nerve that has turned it into one of the highest rating new shows on US television this year.

1. Glee is politically charged.
2. I am talking about glee, which is the name of the thread, right GEM? I am sure you will find it heartily entertaining that my wife loves the show, which is why I am venting about it here. :salute:

Glee is not politically charged. You went to a gay site where THEY decided to find reasons to back the show. This is freaking ridiculous. Go spout the shit in P&R....this is the entertainment section. People don't want to deal with this shit here, they come here to talk about entertainment.

You want to talk about what you conceive to be the politics of Glee, go start a thread about it in the P&R section.

Underrated talent? nearly all the roles I've seen her in are trailer trash skank roles. I admit she plays them well, but haven't laughed once at her so called comedic brilliance.

Seriously, you don't like the show....who gives a shit. Go find some other freaking thread to sully up. Don't you have better things to do? Don't you have a P&R thread to fight in or something?

Underrated talent? nearly all the roles I've seen her in are trailer trash skank roles. I admit she plays them well, but haven't laughed once at her so called comedic brilliance.

From wiki...she's had a brilliant career...

Lynch's extensive theater background involved touring with The Second City comedy troupe and playing Carol Brady in The Real Live Brady Bunch. She also wrote and starred in the award-winning play Oh Sister, My Sister. Originally produced in 1998, the play kicked off the Lesbians in Theater program at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center in 2004.

Her breakthrough film role was as Christy Cummings, the butch lesbian personal dog handler to trophy wife Sheri Ann Cabot (Jennifer Coolidge) in director Christopher Guest's mockumentary Best in Show (2000). She also appeared in Guest's A Mighty Wind (2003) as porn actress-turned-folk singer Laurie Bohner and in For Your Consideration (2006) as an entertainment reporter.

Lynch is also a television performer. She starred with John Hannah and William Fichtner in 2002's MDs, and has made guest appearances in numerous television series, including Judging Amy, The West Wing, 7th Heaven, Friends, Felicity, Arrested Development, Two and a Half Men, Weeds, Boston Legal, The L Word, Criminal Minds, Help Me Help You, Gilmore Girls, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Psych, Monk and Party Down " L.A. Law" among others.

In 2005, Lynch was named as one of POWER UP's "10 Amazing Gay Women in Showbiz."

Audiences and critics took notice of Lynch for her oddball turn in Judd Apatow's The 40-Year-Old Virgin. She told Fresh Air's Terry Gross the role was originally intended for a man but, at the urging of Steve Carell's wife Nancy Walls, was offered to Lynch instead.[3] Since then, she has starred in a series of films including Role Models, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Space Chimps, The Rocker, The Hammer, Another Cinderella Story, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and Spring Breakdown.[4]

She recently starred in Julie and Julia, playing the role of Dorothy McWilliams, Julia Child's sister. Entertainment Weekly dedicated an article on their website toward the possibility of her performance receiving an Academy Award nomination.[5][6]

She also appeared in the crime drama "Criminal Minds" as Spencer Reid's schizophrenic mother.

As of 2009, Lynch currently appears on the Fox series Glee. Lynch won glowing reviews for her role as the aggressive cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester. Mary McNamara of the LA Times wrote, "Lynch alone makes Glee worth watching."[7] Before her work with Glee, she was a series regular on the Starz comedy Party Down. Though the series was renewed for a second season, Lynch would not be returning due to her work on Glee.[8] On December 15, 2009, Lynch received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film for her role on Glee. The series itself also received nominations in three other categories.[9]

atwater, you're making me want to say bad words to you. Don't make me do that. Not everyone will like Glee. West created an hommage to country music thread, and I had to go in there and do what you're doing to this thread. I was rude. I got my ass handed to me (very kindly) and it could have been worse. So, kindly shut the eff up if you don't have anything nice to say about Glee.

See you in P&R :hi:

Seriously?

Come on folks. Drop the political bullshit. This is the entertainment section, and after looking through this thread I don't feel one bit entertained.

If you don't like the TV show, isn't it enough to say so, or to just move along to the next thread?

Post politics where it belongs, post religion where it belongs, post entertainment where it belongs.

Pretty simple.

Is it ok to state why the show is horrible without getting political?
bad acting
over acting
Fame rip off
too much focus on sex for a high school show. I don't care if it is gay or straight, there doesn't need to be a focus on sex with kids in high school.
I have other reason if you would like but I don't want to offend because after reading the other posts I am not sure if you have to like the show to post in this thread?

You don't have to like the show to post. You have some legitimate reasons.
Alot of the over acting and bad acting make it more entertaining IMHO. Kind of like a Jerry Lewis movie or Three Stooges or even a Cheech and Chong movie. LOL!

That's why we have message boards, heck...look at Broncos Talk

Not everyone is going to agree. But there are some posters who aren't opted into P&R because they don't want to read politics. They shouldn't be forced to because one member refuses to follow that rule. :shrugs:

I agree with you that some of the acting isn't great, a lot of it is overdone, but that's what makes it fun. Funny, I couldn't stand Fame, but love Glee. Weird.

One of my boys is in high school and one is entering next year....and sadly, the sex on the show is nothing in comparison to what really goes on at any high school in the US right now....high school isn't even the start. You should hear some of the stories out of jr. high. :(

I mostly love watching the show because I love the music. I'm a sucker for musicals as it is, so a night of singing along to 80's Madonna and Journey tunes is fantastic! :D

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- "Glee's" Jane Lynch is a married woman, according to a new report.
The star, who plays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the FOX show, wed her fiancee, Lara Embry on Monday, Us Weekly reported.
The actress and Lara, a psychiatrist, wed on the patio of the Blue Heron restaurant, during a 20-minute ceremony attended by 21 guests. The early evening soiree included a fancy meal of sea bass and duck, the mag reported.
"They were very happy. There was lots of smiling," the restaurant's manager, Scott Mercure, told Us Weekly.
The party lasted into the 10 PM hour and featured a host of "upbeat" music, Mercure told the magazine.
Back in April, Jane told AccessHollywood.com's Laura Saltman about her then-upcoming nuptials, noting "I will not be singing at my wedding."
At the time, Jane and Lara were still working out which state they would get married in as same-sex marriage is prohibited in California, where the actress resides.
"I'm not sure. We have about four states to choose from and we'll figure that out," she said in April.

Heinous. Just heinous. I will say though that the one good thing about chick TV is that on those nights I get a free pass to play computer strategy games, or whatever else I'd prefer to do, without let or hindrance from Wife. Want to watch hoss-faced Sara Jessica Parker eat sugar cubes and carrots or whatever they do on that show? You betcha. Desperate Housewives? Dancing with the Stars? Cougartown? Good for you! I'll be replanning my virtual reconquest of Indonesia from the virtual Tojo who lives in my computer.

I can't STAND SATC. Never have, never will. Can't stand SJP nor her arrogant big headed stupid assed husband. I liked Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller. But only in that movie.

NPH was awesome as Bryan Ryan.

One thing this show has over fame is that they sing for a specific reason. Not everyone in the school leaps up with insruments and does a hugely choreographed dance number.
And these kids are so picked on by everyone else, even massive geeks look down on them!

Glee sucks .com
Mission Statement

The television show Glee is probably the worst thing in the world. You may be saying to yourself, “Just don’t watch it if you don’t like it. Why the need for Gleesucks.com?” The simple answer is that sometimes you have to take a stand. If tea prices were too high, we would throw a bunch of tea into the ocean while dressed as Indians. If gas prices were too high, we’d go exxon-valdez on it and run a tanker into a rocky outcropping. Our generation is being assaulted by Glee, so we have created Gleesucks.com. We cannot prove this, but we are fairly certain that Glee was created by enemies of America to blunt the minds of the people of this nation. Here are some of the reasons why Glee sucks.

1. It is targeted at complete idiots. The creators of the show insist on spoon feeding the viewers every element of the show. Glee technically claims to be a comedy and if there is a joke to be made, it is set up for 5 minutes and then taken to the most glaringly obvious end. The “dramatic” moments are equally as banal. When Glee wants some romantic tension, they place the two most unlikely people imaginable, people who would obviously never even be friends let alone romantically involved, and have them get engaged.

2. The main storylines make absolutely no sense. A married man believes his wife is pregnant when she isn’t. A student believes he has impregnated his girlfriend without having had sex with her. The evil cheerleading coach (seriously), Sue Sylvester, has a very fervent vendetta for the glee club to be destroyed. Frequently, she will attempt to have the glee club disbanded. A reason is never given for why she does this.

3. The characters are actually just caricatures that act in a manner that is completely overblown and stereotypical.

4. Glee very subtly hints in the shows logo that this is a show about losers. Often I will here people state that, “I like Glee because now it’s cool to be a geek.” We have no doubt that the people who say this were losers in high school, but we have to wonder how they identify with the Glee characters who are the most attractive and talented people in their school. What high school in America would these kids not be in the top 5 percentile of popularity? Take Rachel for example, not a lot of high school males are not going to want to spend some quality time with her. Yet we are supposed to feel sorry for her because though she is attractive, no one likes her because she is too talented. Our hearts are breaking just thinking about it. The glee club kids often complain about how hard their life is because they are into music and not everyone likes them. The football players don’t like them. They have their entire club and. and frankly, that is more friends than most people have in high school.

5. Glee’s attempt at being diverse is so overt that it is offensive. The first people to join glee club are a black girl, a jewish girl, a guy in a wheel chair, asian girl, and a gay guy. Casting meetings must have looked something like, “Come on people! We can’t stop until we have one of everything! We are going to be the most ******* diverse show ever!”

6. T he acting, much like the disproportionate characters, is so overdone that it is often embarresing to watch. Documentation of this will be provided in later posts

Despite all of these reasons, Glee still consistently had over 7 million viewers weekly and won numerous awards including the Golden Globe for best comedy. Our heart weeps for America. And our tears take the shape of blog posts.

I guess my wife and I are in that "complete idiot" group, since we watch Glee.

I'm pretty amazed at the flaming going on over a TV show, but I guess if I wasn't a "complete idiot" I might understand why a TV show is so threatening to some.

Hey did you know that the part of Kurt (the evil gay guy) was written specifically for Chris Colfer? He auditioned for the role of Artie, and the producers loved him so much they wrote a part specifically for him.

I must be weird or something. I can't remember that last time I like a show that was considered to be the most popular on TV. The list of "great" shows over the years that I have no interest in ever watching includes...

Friends
Seinfeld
Survivor
Lost
American Idol
and now...Glee

However, I'm not a total lost cause. At least I like the original Law & Order (Until Lenny left the show)

You can add one more "type" to that list now.
Glee will be adding a Christian character who disapproves of homosexuality!

I don't watch the show, but I feel safe in assuming that they're bringing in the "Christian who disapproves of homosexuality" in order to make fun of them. That's the way diversity works these days.

My wife watches this show all the time now. My new favorite show is easily "Breaking Bad" about a high school chemistry teacher who gets terminal lung cancer and decides to secure his families future by producing high quality meth. Kind of a dark comedy almost at times, but lots of tension. Very similar to Dexter, my other favorite show.
